Mr. Lyle Hiney of Rocky Mountain House passed away on August 29, 2004 at the age of 86 years. Lyle was born on August 2, 1918 at Delburne, Alberta to Alan and Matilda Hiney. Lyle leaves to mourn his loving wife Betty Mae (Victoria) Hiney nee Die-Bold, his sons: Ronald (Linda) of Victoria, B.C. and their children Erik and Joanna; Donald (Linda) of Calgary and Gary of Rocky Mountain House. He was predeceased by his first wife Dorothy in 1981, his parents Alan and Matilda; and two sisters Rose and Hazel. The Funeral Service for the late Mr. Lyle Hiney will be held from the Chapel of the Rocky Funeral Home on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. with Reverend Ron Tiessen officiating. HOLMES, Phyllis
On August 21, 2004, Mrs. Phyllis Holmes of Red Deer, loving wife, mother and friend passed away at the age of 80 years. She is survived by: her loving husband, Cec Holmes; son Stephen of Okotoks; son Gregory (Patti and children, Pieter and Jessica) of Edmonton; sister Joan Maudsley of Stettler; Florence (Paul) Brown of Sylvan Lake; Dorothy (George) Morris of Sidney, B.C.; Dr. Bob (Rose) Holmes of Arbutus Ridge. B.C.; Karen (LeRoy) Floen of High River; Lorna Holmes of Camrose; also numerous nieces and nephews; and many, many dear friends. Predeceased by her infant son, David, in 1950. Phyl was born in Milnethrope, Cumbria, UK. Phyl met her husband, Cec, while they were both serving with the Allied Forces in Belgium. Phyl served in the British Auxilliary Territorial Service as a stenographer in Field Marshall Montgomery's headquarters in Europe during World War II. She was awarded the France-Germany Star and the War Medal. After her marriage in 1945, she returned to England before following Cec to Canada after the war in 1946. Phyl resided in Red Deer since that time. She was a devoted homemaker and mother. Phyl could always be counted on to have an open door, a sympathetic ear and a fresh pot of tea. Phyl loved bridge and golf. A Memorial Service will be held August 25th at 2:00 p.m. at Gaetz Memorial United Church, Reverend Dr. Fran Hare officiating. Ida Holstein, of Medicine Hat, age 87 years, went home to be with her Lord, surrounded by her family on August 27, 2004. She is survived by her daughters, Marion (Fred) Hoffman of Medicine Hat and Gladys (Donald) Perry of Red Deer and a daughter-in-law Betty Holstein of Leader; seven grandchildren Glenda (Stephen) Hawthorne, Lorna (Jamie) Weatherhead, Kevin Holstein, Leanne Fraser, Patti Holstein, Ashley Perry and Chelsey Perry; one great granddaughter Kaitlyn Weatherhead. She was predeceased by her husband Sam on April 15, 1988, son Fred Holstein, August 9, 2004, and her daughter-in-law Lorene in July of 1997. The funeral service will be held in Medicine Hat Alliance Church, (1340 22nd. Street SE), on Monday, August 30, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Ken Roset officiating. HOWE, Doris May
Doris May Howe of Red Deer passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the age of 78 years. Doris May Marshall was born on May 21, 1926 on a farm near Castor in the Veldt District. She was the oldest of eight children. When she was seven years old a tragic fire at the farmhouse took three of her siblings. A fourth sibling, Lorenzo, passed away at birth. Doris was raised with her brothers; Allan and Keith and her sister, Virginia. After attending school in Veldt, she worked as a housekeeper in Castor until she married Stan Howe on February 10, 1945. Stan and Doris farmed in the Halkirh area until 1951 when they moved to Castor. Earl, Russell, and Glenna were born on the farm. James and Lee were born in Castor. In 1957 the family moved to Consort. In Consort, Doris worked at various jobs before joining Dr. Knight as her medical receptionist in 1963. Gordie was born in 1960. In 1986 Stan retired and one year later Doris joined him in retirement and moved to Red Deer where they lived happily to the end. Doris will be lovingly remembered by her six children; Earl (Karen) Howe of Brooks, Russell Howe of Lacombe, Glenna (Larry) Mack of Grand Prairie, James (Marline) Howe of Leduc, Lee (Brenda) Howe of Medicine Hat, Gordon (Lianne) Howe of Cold Lake, three siblings; Keith (Regina) Marshall of Lacombe, Allan (Jeanette) Marshall of Gwynn, Virginia (Doug) Duke of Halkirk, one brother-in-law, Bill Howe of Castor, ten grandchildren; Tamara (Kyle) Robbins, Candace (Joe) MacDonald, Tabitha Howe, Carla Howe, Travis Howe, Bradley Howe, Curtis (Teneille) Howe, Robert Howe, Sierra Howe, and Colton Howe, two great grandchildren; Alex and Alyssa Robbins, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Ethel Maimie Jackson of Red Deer, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness, at the Red Deer Nursing Home on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at the age of 80 years. Ethel was born in Viking, Alberta on January 3, 1924. Mr. Ronald Ross 'Ron' Jerdan of Red Deer, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2004 at the age of 51 years. Ron was born on January 13, 1953 at Ponoka, Alberta and lived in the Red Deer area most of his life. Ron began working in the oilfield at the early age of fifteen and continued in that career his entire life. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing with his family and friends. Ron will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by his family and close friends. Ron leaves to mourn his loss, his loving children, Collin Jerdan of Gull Lake, Saskatchewan and Kevin Jerdan (Naiomi Pigeon) of Ponoka, Alberta, his stepson, Brolyn Boyko of Red Deer, two grandchildren, Austyn and Savanna and two step grandchildren, Raiden and Dejaro. He will also be sadly missed by his mother, Sheila Jerdan of Red Deer, five sisters, Val, Sheila, Joyce, Judy and Donna and one brother, John, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and good friends. KEMP, Albert Edward (Bert)
Mr. Albert Edward (Bert) Kemp passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Sunday, August 22, 2004 at the age of 97 years. Albert was pre-deceased by his loving wife Eva, his parents James and Isabella Kemp, and seven brothers and sisters. Bert has spent all his life in the Elnora district. He leaves behind to grieve nieces and nephews. A funeral service for Mr. Bert Kemp will be held at Parkland Funeral Home and Crematorium, 6287 -67A Street, Red Deer on Sunday, August 29, 2004 at 10:30 am. Internment will follow at the Elnora Cemetery at 2:00pm. Special thanks go out to Pastor David Sheridan, Phyllis Fabian, Barb Primas and his many wonderful friends. A special thank-you also goes out to the doctors and nurses at the Red Deer Regional Hospital. KLOSS Ruth Kloss (nee Soroko) of Lacombe, passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Hospital on August 26, 2004 at the age of 73. Ruth was born April 17, 1931 in Lampman, Saskatchewan. Ruth spent most of her adult life in Alberta and was known for her great love of cooking, which over the years saw her owning and operating 3 rest-aurants. The highlight of her career though, was cooking for Our Lady of Victory Camp, Gull Lake for many summers. She will be greatly missed by her children Kelvin (Phyllis) Kloss of Red Deer, Bonnie (Larry) Graham of Lacombe, Sharon (Robert) Guimond of Connecticut, Kelly (Connie) Kloss of Red Deer, their father Henry Kloss of Red Deer, and Ruth's brothers Ernie Soroko of Saskatchewan and Ronald Soroko of Florida. She was also loved by her many grandchildren Kyle Kloss, Kyla (Shawn) Abel, Kendall (Kari) Kloss, Carla Graham, Josh (Carmen) Graham, Patti Duncalf, Lisa Cosgrove, Randy Kloss, Riley Kloss, and Cory Kloss, as well as numerous great grand-children. A celebration of her life and a Mass will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 2, 2004 at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, 5128 - 53 St. Lacombe. Ruth will be interned at the Fairview Cemetery, Lacombe. If desired memorial tributes may be made to the Lacombe Hospital.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wilhelm "Bill" Friedrich Koster on August 20, 2004 after a battle with lung cancer. He died peacefully at his home in Kelowna, B.C. with his family by his side. Wilhelm was born on May 29, 1928 in Castrop-Rauxel, Germany where he met and married his beloved wife of 55 years, Elisabeth. He earned the title of Masters in two disciplines of Mechanics. He opened his own business in 1956 which he operated until he emigrated to Canada in 1978. He then concentrated his condiderable drive and dedication to achieving the same level of success at farming in Lacombe, Alberta. He retired in 1996 and later moved to Kelowna, B.C. He was an accomplished outdoorsman, hunter, pilot and beekeeper. His memory will be forever treasured by his wife Elisabeth, his daughter Annette Specht with her husband Leonard, his grandchildren; Leonard and Miranda Specht, Julia and Adrien Rouget, Elisabeth Specht, Katharina Specht, and Carmen Specht, his great grandson Karl Specht and Sophia Rouget, his two brothers Heinrich (Else) and Adolf (Edith). He now joins in eternal peace his parents Heinrich and Margarete and his brother Friedrich.
