BRAWNER

Margaret Elizabeth Jean (Beth) 1921 - 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Beth on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at the Red Deer Hospice, after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Westlock, Alberta, the youngest child of William and Paulina McCullough. On December 13, 1946 she married Corvin Brawner. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Robert) Bignell of Red Deer, Alberta and Lynne (Jim) Welda of Armena, Alberta and son, Graham of Calgary. She will also be missed very much by her special friend, Harvey Burt of Red Deer, Alberta. She is also survived by six grand- children; Shawna, Matthew, Zachary, Megan, Albert and Sheldon; six great grandchildren; Aiden, Shelby, Tony, Roy, Janice and Bryce. Beth is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Ruby Williamson of Summerland, B.C., Phyllis Brawner of Ladysmith, B.C., Gladys Brawner of Calgary and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Corvin in 1972, her brothers, Allan in 1975 and Bill in 1986. Beth worked various jobs in Westlock and Barrhead. When the family moved to Edmonton in 1964, Beth started working at Sears in Meadowlark Mall, then was transferred to West Edmonton Mall. She worked there for 25 years and retired in 1986. She enjoyed traveling to places like Hawaii, Europe, Cuba, and New Zealand. Beth also enjoyed bowling and belonged to different bowling leagues. Beth moved to an apartment in Red Deer in 198, then into the Parkvale Lodge in 2000. Beth thoroughly enjoyed living in the lodge; she made many friends and was the Treasurer of the Parkvale Resident's Association for about three years and a Director for two years. Beth was also a loyal fan of the Edmonton Eskimos and Edmonton Oilers! In Honor of Beth's wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead, there will be "A Celebration of Beth's Life" at Shirley and Robert's acreage on Saturday, June 9, 2007 from 1-3 p.m. If you would like to attend, please call 403-343-8727 for directions. Mr. Gordon A. Bunch of Innisfail, Alberta, passed away peacefully after a courageous battle with cancer at the Red Deer Hospice Society, Red Deer, Alberta, on Tuesday, May 29, 2007, at the age of 69 years. Gordon was born on June 23, 1937 at Innisfail. According to Gordon's wishes there will be no funeral service. BYSTROM

Mr. Lloyd Leonard Bystrom of Benalto, Alberta passed away May 25, 2007 after a battle with cancer. Lloyd was born October 9, 1937 near Sylvan Lake. He is survived by his loving wife Kay; 3 sons Leonard (Lesley), Calvin (Cheryl) and Donald; and one daughter Doris (Ken Buckland). He also has seven loving grandchildren; his mother Ida of Sylvan Lake and lots of nieces, nephews and friends. An Inurnment Service will be held at the Burnt Lake Cemetery on Wednesday, May 30, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. A Celebration of Lloyd's life will be held at the Alliance Community Church, 4404 47 Avenue, Sylvan Lake, on Wednesday, May 30 at 2:00 P.M. CAMPBELL, James Thomas
1937 - 2007

Mr. James Campbell of Red Deer passed away on Saturday, May 26 at the age of 70 years due to complications from heart surgery. He was attended at his bedside at the Calgary Foothills Hospital by his wife and children. Jim is loved and will be greatly missed by his family. He is survived by his loving wife Bertha and their children Kenneth Robert of Red Deer; Kevin James (Ying Yi), grandson, his little fishing buddy, Zi Heng Danil of Red Deer; Dennis Wayne and grandsons Thomas and Luke of Calgary; Linda "Ralphie" Louise of Edmonton; and Darren Dean of Red Deer. Jim was predeceased by his brother Bob in 2004 and survived by his brother Gordon of Airdrie, sister Shirley Johnson of Newmarket, Ontario; brother Charlie (Mary Anne) of Richmond Hill, Ontario; brother Stewart (Karen) of Camrose; and sister Mary Jean (Wayne) Schilling of Calgary. As well as many nieces, nephews, family and friends. As per his wishes, Jim will be cremated and there will be a private family ceremony at Shunda Creek, Nordegg, a place where Jim loved and his family has special memories. Memorial donations may be made in Jim's honour directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.

CARLYLE

Patricia Janet (Hay) Patsy Carlyle, of the Bentley area, died suddenly but peacefully on May 24, 2007, marking the end of a three year determined and hopeful struggle with cancer and related treatments. Patsy was predeceased by her parents John (2004) and Eileen Hay (2006) and sister Joan Delich (1985). She will be forever loved and sadly missed by David, her husband of 37 years, her children Drake (Amy Maish) of Toronto, Marcy of Calgary and Sarah of Mexico, dear nieces Julia and Jennifer Delich, brother John (Rose) Hay of Ottawa, sister Barb (Don) Eberhardt of Vancouver, brother-in-law Michael Delich of Fernie and all her nieces and nephews. She will also be fondly remembered by many relatives and good friends. Born on May 29, 1943, Patsy was raised in Vancouver and graduated from UBC with a B.Ed. in 1965. After marrying Dave in 1969 they lived briefly in Germany before building their home and settling in the Blindman Valley, south of Bentley. She taught primary school, both in Burnaby and Bentley, before dedicating her life to raising her children. She remained active in the Bentley School and community, where she gained the admiration and friendship of those she encountered. Figure skating was her life-long passion. She was the B.C. Junior Champ in 1960 and spent two years after university traveling North America with Ice Capades. She coached her daughters and many other young skaters and avidly followed the figure skating world. For many years she escaped the cold Alberta winters to visit her parents in Palm Desert and enjoyed three other life-long passions there - sun, tennis and shopping. Patsy's sincere interest in others and welcoming nature brought many friends into her own family. She was well known for her love to chat both on the phone and in person. Her energy, compassion and warmth will be sadly missed by those that knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, her family requests donations be made to the Lacombe Community Care, Unit 32 of the Red Deer Regional Hospital or a charity of choice. Special thanks to all health care professionals at both facilities. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday June 2, 2007 at the CrossRoads Church in Red Deer (west of Highway 2 on 32nd Street). Jesse David Church passed away suddenly in Vancouver, B.C. at the age of 24 years old, he will be greatly missed by family and friends. COSSEY

Robert James (Bob) Cossey of Innisfail passed away on May 22, 2007 at the age of 83 years. Bob was born in Innisfail on August 3, 1923. He lived his entire life in Innisfail except for the years he was in the Air Force stationed in the Maritimes. In his early years, he helped with the family dairy business. He owned his own electrical business for many years. In 1950, he married Ida Slette and they raised 4 children. Bob enjoyed woodworking, camping, bowling, curling and cards. He was a hobby farmer raising rabbits, cows, bantams, pigeons and exotic birds. He had a great sense of humor and a good attitude, even when his health was failing. He is survived by his children Ardis (Charlie) Bourque of Fairbanks, Alaska, Becky Cossey of Innisfail, Glenn (Cindy) Cossey of Innisfail and Bonny (Dietmar) Bruestle of Red Deer and 7 grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Edna Ritten and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Flossie and Hugh Cossey and his wife Ida Cossey. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made to the Parkinson's Society of Alberta, (11111 Jasper Avenue, Edmonton, AB. T5K 0L4) or to the Rosefield Centre, (5023 42nd Street, Innisfail, AB. T4G 1A9). A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2007 at 2:00pm at St. Mark's Anglican Church (4915 52nd Street, Innisfail). Interment to follow at the Innisfail Cemetery. DAVIS, Lyle
1944 - 2007

Lyle Davis of Vauxhall, beloved father, husband, friend and devoted son, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at the age of 63 years. Lyle was born in 1944 to Edna and Earl Davis. He was raised in Vauxhall on the family farm and was the apple of his mother's eye. He actively participated in all sports including basketball and baseball with the Vauxhall Jets. He was offered a baseball scholarship with Brigham Young University in Utah. He excelled in High School Curling. He graduated from Vauxhall High School in 1962 as Class President and Valedictorian. He married Barbara Demchuk, high school sweetheart, daughter of Olga and Harry from Vauxhall. Kevin (partner Christine) was born in 1964 and Rhonda (partner Tim) was born in 1971. Lyle and Barb moved to Lethbridge where Lyle had Ace Building Supplies and Presidential Homes - glass shop, truss plant and prefab homes. Lyle's Dad Earl and Grandfather Sam passed away in 1981. Lyle returned to the family farm in Vauxhall. He married Valerie Ross, originally a Vauxhall girl, daughter of Irene and Jackie Ross. He moved to Calgary and was involved in real estate business. Grayson was born in 1985 and Jacqueline (partner Clint Pierson of Vauxhall) in 1986. Jacqueline and Clint purchased Grandmother Edna's home so it is still in the family. In 1988, Valerie and Lyle purchased Radium Valley Vacation Resort. They moved to Radium in 1992 where the children were raised amid the luxuries of a world class resort with swimming pools, tennis, golf and skiing. The family business with construction, management, sales and marketing was operated with Valerie, Lyle and Kevin. Edna passed away in 2002. Lyle returned to Vauxhall but worked once again in the lumber industry in Southern Alberta, Red Deer and Lacombe until his unexpected passing. Lyle through this time, became good friends with Phyllis Louise Thompson and her children Randy, Erin and Adam. Throughout Lyle's active life, he maintained his passion of curling. He assisted Ray Kingsmith to introduce curling to the Olympics as a demonstrator sport. This was approved, of course. He supported Junior Curling and participated in Farmers Curling. He played super league in Cranbrook on Tuesdays, Calgary on Wednesdays and Lethbridge on Thursdays. The bonspiels started on Fridays, qualifers were on Sundays, with playoffs on Mondays. In between all the curling he would say "Lets go for coffee". His team won the Canadian Mixed in 1979. In curling circles he was known as "Tapback". He captured the competitive gentleman sport in the grand spirit of the game. Lyle was the President of the Lethbridge Curling Club; President of Southern Alberta Curling Association; President Alberta Men's Curling Council. He attended Briers across the country from British Columbia to Prince Edward Island and made friends in every city in every province along the way. Lyle was well known and loved. He is survived by: three sisters, Ann Harding of Calgary, Donna (Marvin) Blaney of Sherwood Park and Wendy (Randy) of Westbank, B.C. and also numerous nieces and nephews; two grandchildren, Valerie and Kyle; cousins, Jean Valgardson, Brenda Steele, Pat and Mike Sakatch; Aunt Joan Claeys; cousins Lynn, Sheryl, Connie, Nancy and Randy. He is now returned to his Grandmother Martin, Grandfather Sam, Father Earl and two Moms Edna and Irene. He is probably driving them around Heaven right now. A Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Tuesday, May 29, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Alanna Johnson officiating. Burial followed at the Vauxhall Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Lyle's name may be made directly to the Southern Alberta Curling Association, Junior Curling, 720 - 3 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta T2N 1N9 or to the Southeast Rebels, Box 84, Vauxhall, Alberta T0K 2K0. Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Dodds passed away peacefully at home on May 19, 2007 at the age of 66 years. Betty is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Harry) Hobbs and family members Harry Hobbs Jr., Ruth Copot, Amanda Hobbs, Mark Hobbs and Barb and Doug Noble. A Funeral Service will be held at the Red Deer Funeral Home (6150 - 67 Street) on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Parkland Community Living and Supports Society will be hosting a tea for Betty after the service at the Relax Crew Clubhouse located at 6332 Orr Drive. Betty's family would like to send a special thank you to all of Betty's caregivers.

ENGMAN, Brooke Eva
2006 - 2007

Brooke Engman, daughter of Shauna and Carl, passed away on Friday, June 1, 2007 at the age of 8 months. Baby Brooke was the youngest of her family. We will always miss her beautiful smile however we are comforted by the knowledge that she will always be a guardian angel to her sisters, Morgyn and Hope. Brooke is survived by her parents, Shauna and Carl; her sisters, Morgyn and Hope; her grandparents, Norm and Joan Engman of Olds, AB, and Phil and Arlene Walton of Bentley, AB; her great-grandmothers, Alice Engman of Sylvan Lake, AB and Florence Aubuchon of Red Deer, AB; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. FREEMAN, Eunice Grace
1918 - 2007

Eunice Grace Freeman of Calgary passed away, after a short illness, on Monday, May 28, 2007 at the age of 89 years Born in Knee Hill Valley, AB. on May 7, 1918 to David James and Maybelle Guard, Eunice is survived by her sons, Devery, David (Kevin) and Jack (Bonnie); five grandchildren, Stacey, Jill, Jaime, Brian, and Robbie; ten great-grandchildren; and by a special friend, Sheila Maxwell. She was predeceased by her brothers, Gordon and Stanley Guard; and sisters, Estelle Kirkham and Lucille Branson. She was also predeceased by her husband, Stanley in 1997 after fifty-seven years of marriage. Eunice moved from the family home in Innisfail to live in Calgary eight years ago. Over the years Eunice worked as a waitress, a telephone operator during the war and owned her own restaurant in Innisfail while Stan was in the army. In later years she worked with Stan in the family business, Freeman Insurance Agencies. Eunice was known for her famous pies and best-ever home cooking! She was known as Mrs. Meticulous as she always said 'if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing well.' Eunice loved all animals and had many dogs and cats as part of her life.
