Douglas Mark Krieger
1965 - 2017
Douglas Mark Krieger was born on January 14, 1965 in Macklin, Saskatchewan. He was the oldest child of 7, born to George & Olga Krieger. Doug attended Primate School where he started and completed his education.
Doug will always be remembered as a people person. His public relations skills served him well in many areas of his life, especially in the Oilfield Industry. It was amazing what Doug would accomplish with just a few phone calls. The memories made at the shop over the years, along with many cups of coffee brought about much laughter, fellowship, and friendships.
Over the years Doug enjoyed assisting his Dad and brother Jamie with the farming operations. Combining at harvest continued to be his favorite position.
Fully loaded Ford vehicles, his dogs, his family, including his work family, all had a special place in his heart.
Despite Doug’s failing health his determination and attitude was a model for all of us. When we asked Doug, "How are you doing?" he would always muster up a smile and say, “Not too Bad!” Knowing all too well he was experiencing extreme discomfort.
Surrounded by the comfort of his family, Doug passed away at the Provost Health Center on March 17, 2017 at the age of 52 years.
Doug will be forever missed by his daughters, Denyse and her children, Mercedes, Maison, and Mya; Dianna and her children, Skylar and Summer; dogs, Lola and Babee; mother, Olga; brothers and sisters, Janet (Rob) Perron and their children, Kyle, Matthew and Kaelyn; Donna (Dean) Kalmer and their children, Kelsi, Tori, and Kari; Susie (Todd) Volk and their children, Cole and Evan; Jamie (Denise) Krieger and their children, Dawson, Trista, and Hudson; Rick Krieger and his children, Mackenzie, Kali, and Spencer; Nancy (Ernie) Greter and their children, Nate, Emma, and Gabrielle; as well as numerous relatives and friends.
Doug was predeceased by his father, George Krieger; grandparents, Albert & Christina Krieger and Julian & Mary Sluchinski; Uncle, Ambrose Stang.

Frances Petterson
Frances Petterson was born in the Lashburn and District Hospital on December 10, 1924. She was the sixth of twelve children born to Anton and Agnes Lundquist and raised on the family farm in the Dry Gully district North of Maidstone. She attended Dry Gully School, and completed her senior years of education by correspondence, with her final year in attendance in Maidstone. She then went to Normal School (later called Saskatoon Teachers’ College) in Saskatoon to pursue formal training as a teacher. From there, she was called to teach in Kinistino, where she met her future husband, Robert (Bob) Petterson. They married in July of 1949 and, after living at Kinistino for 4 years, moved to the Dry Gully district to farm near Frances’s childhood home.
Wherever she lived, Frances was an active member of her community, known for her organizational abilities, her friendliness, and her sense of humour. She often was called upon to speak at events, and enjoyed incorporating humour into her speeches, poems or songs. She enjoyed music, and for several years was the piano player in a local dance orchestra, as well as regularly playing the piano at United Church services.
She held formal roles on several local boards and committees, including the United Church, the Maidstone Museum, and the housing authority. With the support of Dr. Ted Marfleet, Frances organized a group referred to as the FLC - women from the Maidstone area who met regularly to have fun while learning to address weight management through nutrition and exercise. For several years, she was the “North of the Gully” correspondent for the Maidstone Mirror.
Frances enjoyed being involved in various fundraising activities, including as co-director for plays that evolved into local dinner theatre. She was also heavily involved in organizing the original Smorgasbord at Milleton Hall - something that became an annual fundraising event for more than 60 years.
Whether involved in team sports (such as curling or bowling) or solitary activities (such as knitting and crocheting) , Frances always brought commitment, a sense of humour, and attention to detail. (This surely contributed to her curling team’s eight-ender!) She was especially proud of her family and their various accomplishments. Looking back on her life, she recently commented that although there were several ups and downs, she was happy to have experienced all the things she did.
Frances died on November 1, 2020 in the Maidstone Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband (Bob) , her son (Ross) , her son-in-law (Hugh Wilkins) , her daughter-in-law (Audrey Petterson) , and by all eleven of her siblings. She is survived by her son (Darryl) , her daughter (Annelle) , her grandson (Kris) , her granddaughter (Kara) , and her great-granddaughter (Isabella Elias) .
In the current circumstances, there will not be a public service. But if there were, Frances would have wanted lots of music and singing, a few funny stories (at her expense!) , and this poem printed on the service programs.
I hold no dream of fortune vast,
Nor seek undying fame.
I do not ask when life is past
That many know my name.
I may not own the skill to rise
To glory’s topmost height,
Nor win a place among the wise,
But I can keep the right.
And I can live my life on earth
Contented to the end
If but a few shall know my worth
And proudly call me friend.

- Edgar Guest
The immediate family will hold a private gathering at a later date.
Please make donations in Frances’s memory through cheques payable to Pine Island Suites, Box 899, Maidstone, Saskatchewan, S0M 1M0

Charles Joseph Laisnez
Born: Fri., Mar. 20, 1936
Died: Mon., Oct. 7, 2013
On October 7th, 2013 Charles Laisnez passed away suddenly at his home in Stettler, AB. "Charlie" as he was known to friends, was born on March 20th, 1936 in Big Valley, AB and was a beloved son of John and Ange Laisnez. He grew up in a demanding but pius farm home with his older sister Helene and his twin siblings, Albert and Rosella.
After completing grade school in Scollard and Big Valley, Charlie went off Edmonton to finish his diploma. After a year at Olds College, he attended the University of Alberta completing a degree in Agriculture in 1959. He then returned to the farm to work with his Dad. Charles met Theresa in 1961 and they were married in July of 1962. Theresa's daughter Jeannette was immediately a member of the Laisnez clan. Charles and Theresa had four more children, Christopher, Carol, Diane and Leann.
Charles spent the next 38 years living and working on the farm he loved so much. He was also a active in the community as a Big Valley Hall Board member, the draw master at the Curling Club, 4-H Club Leader, as well as working to keep the rail line here a while longer. Charlie loved the time spent with friends and neighbours, either curling, playing in the Big Valley Band, or sitting around the kitchen table at coffee time.
Charlie was fortunate to have his son in law Art and his son Chris working with him on the farm. His grandsons Jason, Tim and Luke grew up on the family farm and he was a great source of wisdom. He was thrilled years later when the twins, Mitchel and Jillian were born to Carol and again when Nicholas and Connor came into the fold. He and Theresa found themselves travelling often to Calgary for visits with the grand children, but what the children loved most was spending time on the farm with Grandpa. Long hikes to discover Dinosaur bones in the river coulee and riding the Combine during harvest were special times the children were able to share with Grandpa.
In 2000, Charlie and Theresa moved to Stettler, but his heart was always still on the family farm. He was a deeply faithful man and in town, was able to spend more time at the church for weekday masses and as a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a huge support to Theresa as her health declined and more medical attention was required. Sadly, he lost his wife of 41 years in 2003.
He was overjoyed to hear of the 2006 arrival of his latest grandson, Rowan and found more reason to spend time at the farm. He loved to help Chris and Shauna with any odd jobs and of course, he was still The Man on the combine, right up to this past harvest.
Charles married Adeline Petrussa Radke in November of 2004 and they enjoyed life in their beautiful home in Stettler where he tended to their lawn and the begonias. They enjoyed traveling to Edmonton and Calgary to visit their families and relished some wonderful holidays to Europe, California and Hawaii.
Recently, Charles was fortunate to have his brother and best friend Albert close by to spend time with visiting, running errands, playing cards and praying together.
Charles leaves his wife Adeline; his children Jeannette and Arthur LaRose, Chris and Shauna Laisnez, Carol Laisnez, Diane and Robert Wiebe and Leann Laisnez; his grandchildren, Jason and Emma LaRose, Tim LaRose and Luke and Tania LaRose, Mitchel and Jillian MacKay, Nicholas and Connor Wiebe, Rowan Laisnez and Nicole and Sienna Radke; and his great grandchildren, Liliana and Elijah LaRose and Riley LaRose.
A Prayer Vigil was held for Charlie on Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Christ-King Catholic Church at 6:00 P.M. with the Mass of Christian Burial being held on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Donatus Ihekwoaba as celebrant.
As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of Charlie, memorial contributions may be made to the Alberta Heart and Stroke Foundation in care of Brennen Funeral Home and Cremation Services, P.O. Box 193 Stettler, Alberta TOC 2LO who have been entrusted with the care and funeral arrangements.
