With great sadness I announce the passing of my mother Lou Morris. She passed away peacefully in the wee hours on January 29, 2009 at the age of 75. Lou was born on April 11, 1933 in Buffalo Head Prairie. Lowella later moved to Calgary where she settled down. In 1979 she moved to Tees and remained in the area until 2008. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was always more concerned about others and always willing to lend a hand. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends but we are so grateful for the time we had together. She is survived by her husband Noel Morris, her Daughter Valerie (David) Sparrow, her sister Lois Gibb, grandchildren Travis ( Alanna) Morris, Christopher Sparrow, Andrew (A.J.) Sparrow, and Megan Sparrow. Great Grandchildren Bayden Morris, Nathalie McGillis, Logan McGillis and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held from Wilson’’s Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe on Monday February 2, 2009 at 11:00 AM.. Interment will take p[lace in the Tees Cemetery @ 2:00 PM.
RODGIRS [SARGEANT], Florence Irene (Inscho)
Florence Irene Rodgirs of Breton, Alberta passed away surrounded by her loving family at the Grey Nun’s Hospital in Edmonton on April 8, 2009. Florence was born in Glendon, Alberta on December 24, 1923 youngest daughter of Thomas and Victoria Inscho. One of three children, she spent her childhood in the Goodridge area and, at sixteen years of age, Florence met the Truth and made a choice that would guide the rest of her life. On December 11, 1943 Florence married Parker Sargeant and soon afterwards moved to the Sargeant family farm in the Chigwell area where they raised two sons and three daughters. Florence was a loving mother and a hard-working and generous host; always welcoming friends and family into her home. She loved to share a joke and a laugh, to play games and do puzzles and was always there to help anyone in need. Florence and Parker spent 57 years together until Parker’s passing in 2000. On July 30, 2003 Florence married Lance Rodgirs and they moved to Breton Alberta. Florence enjoyed these years and worked beside Lance to transform their acreage into a beautiful parkland. Florence is predeceased by her husband, Parker, and daughter, Eda May; brother, Henry Inscho and sister, Elsie Sharp; as well as parents Thomas and Victoria Inscho. Left to mourn are her husband, Lance Rodgirs of Warburg; sons: Lyle (Marilyn) Sargeant of Red Deer and Nellis (Veronica) Sargeant of Lacombe; daughters: Lois (Earl) Loyek of Battleford, SK and Sylvia Sargeant of Calgary and special friend Linda Sargeant of Breton. Florence leaves a legacy of 9 grandchildren: Darry (Kendra) Loyek, Daniel (Nicole) Loyek, Aylene Loyek, Keri (Bill) Brown, Kathy Adcock Voxland, Annetta (Roy) Paul, Orlene (Michael) Hahn, Ben (Tammy) Sargeant, Melissa (Jason) Krivoshein and 28 great grandchildren. Auntie Florence will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews and their families and a huge number of friends. Special thanks to those who called, visited and spent time at the hospital with Florence in her last days. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009 at 1:00 pm at the Lacombe Memorial Center, 5214 50th avenue, Lacombe Alberta. THOMPSON
Jack Thompson, long time resident of Lacombe passed away on Sunday March 15, 2009 at the age of 78 years. Jack was a devoted husband to Emilie, an avid sportsman, and was the head golf professional at Lacombe for many years. Jack had many good friends. His sense of humour made him fun to be around. He served his country as a young man and has been an active member and volunteer for the Royal Canadian Legion. He will be truly missed by family and friends. Jack was predeceased by parents Gusty and Ralph, brothers Vaughn, Stanley, Manley, Dell and sister Elsie Taylor. Jack is survived by wife Emilie, sisters Joyce Wynnyk, Dorothy (Joe) Collins, Donna (Buzz) Bradshaw, and brother Bob (Lesley) Thompson. Sisters-in-law Marie Cleveland and Ann Nimmo as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held on April 16, 1:00 P.M. at St. Andrew’s United Church, 5226-51 Ave., Lacombe. BRAAKSMA, JANE ( nee Postmus)
Jane went peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior on April 5, 2009. She was born on August 10, 1922 in the Netherlands and was a nurse and midwife until immigrating to Canada. She married John in 1953 in Lacombe where they farmed until moving west of Ponoka. They continued to live in that area after retirement until 1994 when they moved to the town of Ponoka. Jane was predeceased by John in 1997. Mourning her passing are Jane’s children: Son Sid (Dorothy) , Ryan ( Danielle) Tanya and Craig. Daughter Grace (Dallas) Christina, Matthew, Monica and Julia. Son Erick (Pat) , Mandi ( Colton) and great granddaughter Bailey, Jenni, Erica, Kenton and Kyle. As well as her sister Saapke Kingma and brother Willem Postmus in the Netherlands, and many friends. A service will be held at Parkland Reformed Church (south of Ponoka on Spruce Rd. off Hwy 2A) on Saturday April 11, 2009 at 2 PM with Rev. Mitch Ramkissoon officiating. Nov. 16, 1928 to April 03, 2009
Marie passed away at the age of 80 years surrounded by her family. A long time resident of, Westlock. Marie spent her final days in Lacombe with her daughter Theresa. The love of her faith, family & travel were always something Marie felt strongly about. She is survived by her children Daniel St. Jean, Annette Krushell, Theresa McLeod, Pauline Mayan, Norman St. Jean, Yvonne & Irene (sisters) , Henry (brother) , many Grandchildren, Great-Grandchildren, family & friends. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Stephens Catholic Church, 5128 - 53 Street, Lacombe on April 8, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Interment will take place in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Westlock, AB on Friday April 17, 2009 at 2:00 P.M.. Eleanor Irene Jackson passed away at the Lacombe Community Health Care Center on April 1, 2009 at the age of 86 years. Eleanor was born in Edmonton, Alberta on September 29, 1922. She is survived by Victor (Bill) , her loving husband of 69 years, 5 children; Dorothy and Dianne of Red Deer, Bob (Alpha) of Ponoka, Doug of Dawson City, Yukon, and Neil (Heather) of Lacombe, 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren. Eleanor loved gardening, reading and traveling to see other countries. Her greatest joy were her children. She is loved and will be missed. We know we will be together again one day. Funeral services will be held from Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, 6120 highway 2A, Lacombe, AB on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 2:00 P.M.. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery Lacombe, AB. SALOMONS, Janet
On March 31, 2009, the Lord took home our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Janet Salomons at the age of 75 years. Janet was born in 1934 in Redlands, California. After receiving her nursing license from the College of Nursing in San Bernadino Valley, California, she worked for several years. She moved to New Mexico to work at the Rehoboth Mission Hospital for 6 years before leaving to get married. On November 16, 1962 she married Sam Salomons and together they raised their family of 4 children on their farm across from the Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church, Lacombe. Janet volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, a Gems counsellor and the church’s organist. Once the children were school age, she also volunteered in the Lacombe Christian School library. She returned to work for several years as a unit secretary at the Red Deer Hospital. Janet is survived by her loving husband Sam, and her children: Joline (John) Huisman of Leduc, Edna (Harmen) Walterlander of Dublin, Texas, and Tony (Liz) Salomons of Calgary, her brother John (Micky) Boogman of Boise, Idaho and her seven grandchildren as well as extended family members. She was predeceased by her son Edward on March 19, 1993. A Celebration of Jane’s life will be held from the Woody Nook Christian Reformed Church, Lacombe on Thursday, April 09, 2009 at 1:30 PM. Zoey Lee Holmes
August 19th, 2006 - March 30th 2009
Zoey was born at the Red Deer Hospital, and spent most of her life living in and around Lacombe, with a short stay in Valleyview, AB. She was diagnosed with germ cell cancer May 27, 08. She endured several rounds of chemotherapy, a couple of surgeries, and two stem cell transplants. Zoey was full of smiles and definitely knew who she did and did not want to play with. She loved bacon, Schneider’’s All Beef Bologna, chicken strips, and jewellery; but most of all Barney and her tooties. She will be greatly missed by her parents Eldon and Ashlee (Haakonson) Holmes, as well as her big brother Ty Jordan. She is survived by her great grandparent, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and everybody else her smile has touched. We would like to say a special thank you too Dr. Ron Anderson and all of the staff at the Alberta Children’’s Hospital. As well as Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta, and all of our RMH family. After a courageous battle with cancer, Gerry Hulsman ( Heideman) , peacefully passed away with her loved ones at her side on March 29, 2009. She was born on September 2, 1931 in Diepenheim, the Netherlands, and was the youngest in a family of 10 children. Gerry married Jan Willem (Bill) Hulsman on March 23, 1954. They immigrated to Canada on April 15, 1954. After spending 9 years in the Edmonton area they moved their family to their farm west of Ponoka in 1963. In 1995 Gerry and Bill retired and moved into the town of Ponoka. She is survived by her loving husband Bill of 55 years, her children and grandchildren. Joanne (Ed) Brent and Kendra, Gaylord (Caroline) Devon (Kristen) , Garrett and Craig, Dennis (Brenda) Tyler, Shannon and Kevin, Ron and Jessica, John (Shanna) Jocelyn, Adam, Kurtis and Victoria. She is also survived by a brother Arend and sister Grada in the Netherlands, and sister Hannie in Edmonton. She is predeceased by numerous family and close friends. Gerry will be deeply missed by those near to her and fondly remembered for her caring and compassion for others. Funeral services will be held at the Sunrise Christian Reformed Church, Ponoka, ½ km south of the Centennial Center (Alberta Hospitail) on Friday, April 3rd at 2:00 pm. Jean MacGregor (Jeanie Marion MacGregor) of Red Deer passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on March 18, 2009. Jean is predeceased by her husband Gordon MacGregor, two brothers James Larsen & Harry Larsen, three sisters Anne Stephan, Mae Lougheed, & Lillian Larsen. Jean is survived by her daughter Sharon, son-in-law Brian, grandson Grant, and two great-grandsons Tyler & Jesse Cotter, sister-in- law Edna Larsen, brother Charles Larsen, as well as nieces, nephews, close friends, neighbours and fellow parishioners. Jean was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and in her everyday life expressed enjoyment in the gift of God’s creation that was bared to light in her appreciation & enjoyment in birds of song, the breeze & rustling of leaves in the trees while enjoying a round of golf, the blossoming of flowers in her garden, and the studious care for hers and other’s health & wellness. Her thoughtful words of encouragement, smile & laughter will be greatly missed by all. Funeral services will be held from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3002 – 47 Ave. Red Deer, AB on Thursday March 26, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in the Red Deer Cemetery.
