Craddock
Mrs. Joyce Anne Craddock of Ponoka, Alberta passed away in the Ponoka Hospital on Friday March 13, 2009 at the age of 73. Joyce was born in High Prairie Alberta August 8, 1935 to the late Arthur and Alberta Engstrom. She is survived by he husband of 52 years Richard Craddock: her three daughters Kim (Rick) Evernden of Lacombe, AB; Laurie (Andy) Veitch of Prince George, BC; and Maureen (Les) Mayan of Peers, AB. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a brother Wayne Engstrom and numerous nieces and nephews. A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe, Alberta on Wednesday March 18, 2009 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Ponoka Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, 5800 57 Ave, Ponoka Alberta, T4J 1P1.

BRITTAIN
Florence May Brittain of Lacombe passed away on March 12, 2009 at the age of 97 years. Born on December 26, 1911 in Rueben, Wales, she received her education in Wales before moving to Carbon, Alberta at the age of 13. After a couple of years, they left Carbon and moved to the Lincoln District with her parents and began farming. It was here that May met the love of her life- Art Cartwright. In 1934, May and Art were married and moved to Lacombe where Art worked for Independent Creameries. Together they had 2 children; daughter Dorothy and son Doug. Art passed away in 1967 and after many years May met Ambrose Brittain who she married in 1973. May was widowed again in 1995. As her health began to fail, May moved to the Lacombe Senior’s Lodge where she remained until her passing. May was a member of the Lacombe Rebecca Lodge for over 50 years and a member of the Anglican W.A.. She was also a lifetime member of the Anglican Church where she seldom missed a Sunday Service. May is survived by her son Doug (Rose) Cartwright, her daughter Dorothy Seibel, grandsons Brian & Murray Seibel, Randy & Dean Martin, Don (Aletta) Cartwright, granddaughters Hally & Kim Cartwright, 14 great grandchildren, a sister-in-law Ila Morrish, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. May was predeceased by her parents Fred & Hope Morrish, her brother Geoff Morrish and by her son-in-law George Seibel. Funeral Services will be held from St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church, Lacombe on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Lacombe. If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church Memorial Fund or the Bus Fund for the Lacombe Senior Citizen’s Lodge.

HUSEBY
Christian George “Bud” Huseby, born Nov. 3, 1950, passed away at the Foothills Hospital, Calgary, AB. on March 3, 2009 at the age of 58 years. He leaves to mourn his passing his loving wife Carol, eight children, 17 grandchildren, numerous brother, sisters, nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held from Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe, on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 1:00 PM..

Harriman
Muriel Peace Harriman passed away at the Lacombe Palliative Care Unit surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 4, 2009 at the age of 90 years. Muriel was born and raised in Vulcan, Alberta. Muriel is survived by her daughter, Beth (Don) Pollock and son, Ray (Darlene) Harriman as well as grandchildren Alda (Jayson) , Paul (Heather) , Raymond (Kristin) , Allison, Matthew (Kasandra) , Shauna (Darren) and Herb. Muriel is also survived by four great grand children. Muriel was predeceased by her husband Herb in 1998 and her son Larry in 1999. In 1936 Muriel married Herb Harriman. After living in Vulcan and later in Pensacola, Florida, the couple eventually relocated to Lacombe. Over the next several years, Herb and Muriel raised three children, Beth, Larry and Raymond. Herb and Muriel enjoyed 30 years in Lacombe servicing the area with their farm implement business. Many Lacombe area residents purchased their first tractor, combine or television from this family owned dealership. In addition to raising a family, Muriel was an avid curler, member of the Kinettes and the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary. In 1972, Herb and Muriel retired to their new home in Gull Lake. They made many new friends and enjoyed years of socializing and participating in community events. The grandchildren have fond memories of fun times during the summers spent at the lake. Later, in 1998 when Herb passed away, Muriel relocated to Lacombe. She has had a very busy social life over the past ten years, playing cards, driving friends around, watching sports and keeping tabs on the family. She especially enjoyed her Friday night tile rummy games with the Pepper Tree ladies and spending time with her great grandchildren. All who knew Muriel would certainly rave about her excellent sense of humor, her delicious fried chicken and her skills at any card game. Muriel will be lovingly remembered and missed by so many friends. Kudos and thank you to the ambulance staff, nurses and doctors in emergency and on unit B at the Lacombe Hospital. The care was exemplary. Funeral services will be held at Wilson's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium in Lacombe on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to the Lacombe Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

Maga, Grace Florence
February 5, 1923 - February 24, 2009
Grace Florence (Anderson) Maga passed away February 24, 2009 at the Red Deer Hospital at the age of 86 years. Grace was born on February 5, 1923 to John and Alice Anderson in Bentley Alberta. At the age of 17 she met Mike Maga. They married in December 1940 on the family farm in the poplar Ridge district of Red Deer County. To this union five children were born, Martha, Andrew, Iris, Linda and Judy. Grace was a homemaker, farmer, baker and crafter extraordinaire. Many people have beautiful crocheting, knitting and quilting displayed in their homes today. She was well known for her love of berry picking and many of us enjoyed the fruits of her labour. After 50 years of raising their family and farming, Mike and Grace retired and moved in the city of Red Deer and enjoyed an active life of travel and volunteering. After Mike passed away in 1995 Grace continued to enjoy her volunteer time to the Red Deer clothing bank and knitting mittens for the Christmas bureau. When her health started to fail she moved to Red Deer Nursing Home and stayed until her passing. Grace is survived by her loving family, Martha (Walter) Nicholson of Edmonton, Andrew of Red Deer, Iris (Don) Wyman of Red Deer, Linda (Charlie) Poulton of Lacombe and Judy (Grant) Gaudet of Abbotsford. As well as fifteen grandchildren, twenty one great grandchildren and her brother Gerald (Shirley) Anderson of Penhold. Grace was predeceased by her husband Mike, sisters, Mildred Dickie, Clara Irwin, Alvina Heck and great grandson Robert Bibyk. The family would like to express with deepest gratitude for the wonderful care Granny received in her final years from Dr. Maureen McCall. You were her Angel and helped her walk from life into eternity with Grace and dignity. Thank you. Her funeral will be held at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A, Lacombe Alberta, on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. If friends so desire contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit 32, PO Box 5030, Red Deer Alberta, T4N 6R2, in memory of Grace Maga.

de Waal
Albert Theodore de Waal of Ponoka, peacefully entered into the presence of His Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 25, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife, Carol. Children: Tom (Donna) de Waal of Calgary, Annetta (Phillip) Grinevitch of Tempe, Arizona, Johanna (Onno) Roos of Ponoka, Tony (Yvonne) de Waal of Ponoka, Hendrika Nieboer of Gilbert, Arizona, Alice McCargar of Stony Plain, Albertina (Jeff) Jansen of Sioux Centre, Iowa, Ray de Waal and Mark de Waal of Red Deer. Albert also leaves behind 22 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Albert is a brother to Bep (Jan) Van Der Molen, Zaandam, Holland, Sandy (Annette) de Waal of Calgary, Mien (Hank) Visser, Oosdorp, Holland, Tom (Audrey) de Waal, Millet, Margaret Graham, Henrietta Pente, Henry (Grace) de Waal, Jack (Linda) de Waal, all of Calgary, Bill (Karen) de Waal of North Saanich, B.C. and John de Waal of New Westminister, B.C. Albert was pre-deceased by his first wife, Antonia, his parents, Thomas and Hendrika de Waal, brother Dirk de Waal, 2 sisters Ali Veltrop and Johanna de Waal as well as 2 sister-in-laws and 3 brother-in-laws. Albert was a faithful and loving husband, a caring and doting father, Opa and Great Opa to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a hard working, Godly man who loved the Lord and was an evangelist at heart. His attributes in Christ were many: He was a prayer warrior, an encourager, and a spirit filled believer. Albert was kind, generous and compassionate. His keen sense of humour always made us laugh. He had a positive attitude which was infectious, even to the end. Albert will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed. We have the Ho pe that we will see him again. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. at Woodynook Christian Reformed Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Christian Reformed World Missions or World Vision.

LYDIA LUCK (SUSUT)
Lydia Luck (Susut) passed away peacefully in her sleep on July 11, 2009 at Lacombe Continuing Care one week before her 87th birthday. Born in Bruce, Alberta, the daughter of a minister, Lydia lived in several places in her youth, including Ponoka, Almeda, Ellis, Alix and Lacombe. After graduation from the Nelson School in Lacombe in 1941 she attended Normal School in Edmonton. Her long teaching career began in one-room schools including Iowalta and Woody Nook. She completed her B.ED, through 13 years of evening courses at Red Deer College and summer schools and evening courses at the U. of A. Lydia loved her 33 ½ years of teaching, most of it at the Lacombe Junior High School, before retiring in 1983. She was active in the Alberta Teachers’ Association, the Teachers Professional Relations Committee, I.O.D.E., Rebekahs, many community groups and served on the Lacombe Town Council. Lydia married Charlie Susut in 1947 and raised a family in Lacombe. They bought a cabin at Gull Lake in 1974 and had many happy times there. After Charlie’s death she married Don Luck, whom she had known as a young person. They enjoyed 12 wonderful winters in Yuma, Arizona where they made many good friends, as well as at Gull Lake where they lived until moving back to Lacombe. Lydia enjoyed people and deeply loved her family and many friends. She had a terrific sense of humour and a quick wit, was full of fun, and was a great story-teller. Lydia was known to “hold court at happy hour” on many occasions. She always had a twinkle in her eye and brought smiles and laughter to many over the years. Lydia was a dedicated, tireless worker throughout her life as well as being creative in handicrafts, particularly petit point. She was generous, kind and caring and leaves us with a host of treasured memories. Lydia will be ever remembered, ever loved and greatly missed. Lydia was predeceased by her parents, Rev. Ernest & Vivien Madsen, her brother Paul, her sister Ruth (Falk) , her first husband Charlie in 1981 and second husband Don Luck in 2003. Lydia is survived by her son Terry (Carol) Susut of Red Deer, and her daughter Sandy Susut of Edmonton; Don’s children, Donna (Ron) Kaiser of Edmonton, Sheldon (Ann) Luck of Washington, Gordon (Sharon) Luck of Arizona, Betty Luck of Myrnam, Wayne Luck of Kelowna, Cheri Lockhart of Calgary and David Luck of Edmonton; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law; and many good friends and former students. Special appreciation is extended to Dr. K. Smit, caregiver Teresa Thiem, and those caregivers at Royal Oak and Lacombe Continuing Care who took a special interest in Lydia, thereby easing the last years of her life. A Service to celebrate Lydia’s life will be held on Saturday July 25 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Church at 5226 51 Avenue in Lacombe, followed by a lunch in the C.E. Building. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted for a memorial bench on the grounds of the Lacombe Memorial Centre in honour of Lydia. Cheques payable to the Town of Lacombe may be sent to 5135 50 Street Lacombe, AB. T4L 1J1.

ZELINKA, Ina Sanderson
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ina Zelinka (Kirkhope) July 14, 2009 at the Lacombe Hospital. Born August 22, 1933 in Porthmadog, Wales, Ina grew up in the Kirkhope family bakery before emigrating to Canada when she was 19, settling near Blackfalds, Alberta. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons Tom (Shelly) and Lorne (Jo-Anne) , grandsons Spencer and Travis of Blackfalds, Alberta, sister Irene Owen of Bodedern, Wales, brother Thomas Kirkhope of Pwhelli, Wales, James Zelinka of Lacombe, AB, Vic Sedgely of Wolverhampton, UK and numerous nieces and nephews of Wales and Great Britain as well as many friends. Ina was predeceased by her brother Alec Kirkhope. Well known for her baking, Ina worked at the Lacombe Co-op for several years. She loved spending time with her family, was an avid reader and took great interest in the family farm. A celebration of Ina’s life will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, 6120 Highway 2A Lacombe Alberta. If friends desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lacombe Palliative Care Centre at the Lacombe Hospital, Box 5576, Lacombe Alberta, T4L 1X2.

REIMCHE
Oscar Reimche was born July 31, 1918 at Maple Creek, SK and died July 11, 2009 in Lacombe, AB. Oscar was well known as an all round handyman who had a passion for hockey and his family. He worked in the logging, sawmilling and automotive industry in British Columbia and enjoyed his years as a hospital orderly. He was active in church activities before retiring to Lacombe. Oscar was predeceased by his wife Kathryn, and is survived by wife Alma, sons Roger and Wayne, daughter Linda Hagen, stepsons Carl, Alex, Dan and David McCreery, stepdaughters Marty Kandt and Loma Boyd, 21 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 17, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the College Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church, with interment in Lacombe Fairview Cemetery .If friends desire memorial contributions may be made to ADRA or the Deaf Ministries @ Gospel Outreach.

Polson
Lydia Polson (nee Brulhart) passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Care Centre on July 10, 2009 at the age of 79. She is survived by her husband, Elver, after 55 years of marriage, her brother John Brulhart of Vancouver, her daughter Verdele of Oakville, her son Richard and his wife Teresa of Vancouver, her son Timothy and his wife Bev of Tees, her son Jordan and his wife Kathleen of Red Deer, and her daughter Lorraine of Red Deer. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Nathanael, Denver, Courtney, Casey, Faye, and Ami and nine great-grandchildren: Karina, Natalea, Jenica, Wyatt, Brendan, Danica, Paige, Gage, and Tatum. Lydia is pre-deceased by her mother Bessie, her father Severin, and her brothers Harold and Martin. Lydia will be remembered for her selfless serving of family and friends, her quiet courage and acceptance of life’s difficulties, and her great Chinese Food. We miss her terribly but we know she is enjoying the fullness of heaven where we will join her some day. What a day that will be! Family and friends are invited to pay their respects at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, 6120, Highway 2A, Lacombe Alberta, on Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at 7:00 pm. A celebration of Lydia’s life will be held at the Clive Baptist Church, Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 2:00pm. Beverly Jeanette Barnes (Wagner) of Lacombe, Alberta passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Monday July 6, 2009 at the age of 64 years. She leaves to mourn her loving husband of fifteen years Bill Barnes, son Trevor (Tammy) and Grandchildren Tegan, Taryn, and Tyler, and sister Wendy (Darryl) three nieces Karla (Daryl) , Krista, and Melody (Matt) . A memorial service will be held at Wilson’s Funeral Chapel, 6120 Hwy 2A, Lacombe Alberta, on Friday July 10, 2009 and 10:30 am. Inurnment will be at the Clive Cemetery following the service. If friends so desire memorial contributions may be made to Red Deer Palliative Care, Unit 32, PO Box 5030, Red Deer Alberta, T4N 6R2 or Canadian Cancer Society, 4730A Ross Street, Red Deer Alberta, T4N 1X2 .
