Carole Virginia (Evans)
July 18, 1940 –– July 4, 2009
Carole Garnick of Rocky Mountain House, AB passed away at the age of 68 years after an eight month battle with cancer. She will be sadly missed by her only child, her son, Zane, his wife Denise, their children Colemen, Dayne, Kelcie and Keefer, all of Rimbey. She is also survived by her one Sister Marie Biswanger of Withrow, one brother Calvin (Doris) Evans of Calgary, Brother-in-law John (Margaret) Garnick of Valemont, BC as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Zoley Garnick, April 18, 1991, her parents, Ralph and Ruth Evans and brother Bob, Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the Leslieville Community Hall, 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at the Leslieville Cemetery. OGILVIE
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Graham Ronald Ogilvie of Lacombe, AB announce his passing on June 30, 2009 at the age of 61 in Calgary at the Peter Lougheed Centre. Graham was born on June 11, 1948 in Provost, Alberta. He was the first son born to Ronald and Ruth Ogilvie. Graham grew up in the Lacombe area and attended post secondary schooling in Edmonton and Olds. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Jeanette Galarneau. They settled east of Lacombe and raised three children. He farmed for years with his father Ron and later began his own seed business. In 2003 he & Jeanette sold the farm and moved the business to town. More recently Graham enjoyed new ventures in researching and promoting barley as a health food. He was beginning to develop his wood working hobby as retirement approached. Graham is survived by his wife Jeanette and his three children Danielle Rodda (Barry) of Fort McMurray, Ryan Ogilvie (Robyn) of Vancouver, BC & Virginia Ogilvie of Calgary and his grandson Joshua, his mother Ruth Ogilvie of Lacombe, and sister Faith Gabert (Terry) of Edberg, AB. He is also survived by his numerous sisters and brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. He is predeceased by his father Ron. All who knew Graham loved his gentle spirit, teasing laugh, warm smile and friendly conversation. He touched the lives of many people and will be dearly missed by all. Family would like to thank the surgeons and ICU staff at PLC who provided excellent care for Graham and demonstrated superior professionalism towards all the family members at his bedside. We’d also like thank the ER team in Red Deer and the STARS attendants for their skills and quick thinking. Funeral service will be held at St. Andrew’’s Church, 5226-51 Ave. Lacombe on Saturday, July 4, 2009 @ 1:30 PM. Abel
Margaret Josephine Abel of Lacombe, AB., passed away on Thursday, June 25, at the age of 79 at the Lacombe hospital. She is predeceased by her husband, James Murray, in 2002. She is survived by her children Wesley (wife, Betty) , Murray (wife, Eway) , Cindy (Husband, Dave) , and Bente (husband, Brian) , grandchildren (Jessica (husband, Joey) , Chantelle, Nicolas, Melissa, Jenna, Joleen, Caleb, and Joshua) and great grandchildren (Carter and Talaya) . A funeral service in the celebration of Jo Abel’s life will be held at the Lacombe Church of The Nazarene, 4930 Woodland Drive, Lacombe Alberta, on Thursday, July 2, at 2:00 pm. At the request of the family, donations are made to the Church of The Nazarene.
DenOudsten
Jacob DenOudsten went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 24 at the age of 82. Jake was born in Ameide, Holland on May 24, 1927. Jake immigrated to Canada in 1952 with a dream of owing his own farm. He returned to Holland in 1956 to marry the love of his life, Mary Versluis, and together they moved to Calgary to work on various farms in the area. In 1967 they settled on the family farm northwest of Lacombe. Jake’s faith in the Lord and his devotion to his family were very important to him. He loved being a farmer with music and horses as his hobbies. Jake sang for many years in the Parkland Male Chorus. Jake was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Mary, in December 2006. He leaves to mourn his children Case & Rosalie (Karen, Paul, Mark) , Wilma, Nick & Veronica (Nahani, Aaron, Kescia, Logan) , Peter & Emma (George & Richarla, Sharon, Philip, Miriam) , Marlene & John Ekkel (Jeff & Cindy, Dustin & Cheryl, Kayla, Trevor) , and Dean & Tracy (Caden, Dakota, Kenydi) . He also leaves behind a sister and four brothers in Holland as well as numerous relatives in Holland and Calgary. Jake was also predeceased by an infant grandchild, Helen, and a daughter-in-law, Edith. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Woodynook Church at 1:30 p.m. with interment to follow at Woodynook Cemetery. Anderson
Hazel Arlene Anderson passed away on June 21, 2009 in the Lacombe Long Term Care Centre at the age of 82. She was born at home on April 27, 1927 to Hjalmer and Molly Johnson of the Lincoln District. Hazel is survived by her children, Nick (Donna) Street of Ponoka, Steve (Faye) Street of Cranbrook BC, Brian (Hazel) Street of Rimbey, Marty (Karen) Street of Lacombe and Cindy (Trevor) Joyce of Clyde. 11 Grandchildren, 7 Great Grandchildren, 2 sisters, Elsie (Adam) Schonheiter, and Edna (Jack) Deck of Lacombe, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Hazel was predeceased by her parents, a son Barry, 2 grandsons Brant and Vincent and a sister Beulah Johnson. The funeral will be held Friday June 26 at the Meadowbrook Church, Internment to take place at Gull Lake Cemetery. Kenneth Raymond Wahlstrom passed away at the Lacombe Hospital on June 18, 2009. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, four children and ten grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 5227 C & E Trail, Lacombe Alberta, at 10:30 am. ARMSTRONG
Samuel Frederick (Fred) Armstrong passed away peacefully at the Lacombe Nursing Home on June 16, 2009 at the age of 98 years. Fred was born in Elmvale, Ontario on May 25, 1911. He is survived by his wife of almost 75 years, Mabel Alice Armstrong (Mottern) . Fred was predeceased by his parents, William and Lauretta Armstrong (Srigley) , nine brothers and two sisters. Fred was the last of his siblings and his passing signals the end of a generation. Fred is survived by his three children; Raymond Armstrong of Elnora, Marilyn (Armstrong) and Al Cameron of Lacombe, and Dennis and Leona Armstrong of Rocky Mountain House; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. As a long time resident of Elnora, Fred was involved with the Trenville Elks Club, supported youth teams and activities as a bus driver, and was an avid crib player. While Fred suffered from arthritis for many years, he maintained a sharp mind and interest in the activities of his family until his last days. A memorial service and tea will be held at the Elnora Community Centre on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 2:00 pm. Mrs. Frances (Kennedy) Wyatt of Rimbey, Alberta passed away in the Rimbey Hospital and Care Centre on Tuesday June 16, 2009 at the age of 85 years. Raised in the Lockhart District, Frances leaves to mourn her loving husband Frank of Rimbey, daughter Bonnie (Doug) McAthey and granddaughters Tammy and Marni (Ryan) Doty and great granddaughter Peyton. Funeral services will be held from the Bentley Community Church on Wednesday June 24, 2009 at 1:00 PM with Pastor Greg Rathjen and Mr. Harvey Buit officiating. Inurnment of Frances’s cremated remains will occur in the Bentley cemetery at a later date. COOKE
Etta Cooke passed away peacefully on March 5, 2009 at the age of 92. Pre-deceased by her son-in-law Dale Henry, she is survived by her son Robert (Helen) Cooke, daughter Margaret Henry, grandson Chris Henry, granddaughter Lisa (Brian) Miller, & 4 great grandsons; Travis, Shane, Kyle, and Dale. Etta was a career oriented woman who spent the last 26 years of her working life in classified advertising with The Province Newspaper. Etta retired in 1981 and moved from North Vancouver to “The Fir Crest” in Burnaby, where she lived for the past 28 years. Etta was always impeccably dressed, enjoyed her vacations to Hawaii and loved sharing anecdotes of her life in sales covering a territory from West Vancouver to Mission in her shiny little VW Bug. A memorial service was held on Friday, March 13, 2009 from the Burquitlam Funeral Home, Coquitlam, B.C. Marsene Ross of Lacombe passed away peacefully in the Red Deer Regional Hospital on June 13, 2009. She was predeceased by her husband Mel in 2000 and is survived by her daughter Shirley and her husband Cordell as well as numerous other relatives. Floyd MacDonald of Lacombe passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the age of 75 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his children; Les (Bev) MacDonald, Doug (Brenda) MacDonald, and Laurie (Don) Patton and their families. He will also be sadly missed by his daughter Carrie (Al) Kraft and step-children Judy (Darrell) Povey, Joy (Chuck) Jean, Ken (Bobbi) Gerrie, Bill (Sheryl) Gerrie along with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Floyd was predeceased by his parents Harold & Janie MacDonald of Blackie, Alberta and his wife Zelma who passed away on May 23, 1994.
