Mr. George Vanak passed away in Edmonton, Alberta on February 13, 2012 at the age of 76 years. He is survived by his brother Mike (Shirley) Vanak of Stettler, Alberta and his sister Mary (Manuel) Melle of Medicine Hat, Alberta as well as three nieces and five nephews. A Prayer Vigil service will take place on Monday, February 20 at 7:00 P.M. at the Christ-KingCatholic Church with a Mass of Christian Burial being held at the Christ-King Catholic Church in Stettler, Alberta with the Rev. Arlan Parenteau as Celebrant. As an expression of sympathy and in loving memory of George, memorial contributions may be made to the Alberta Diabetes Association in care of Brennen Funeral Home and Cremation Services P.O. Velma Jean Kennedy
On Thursday, October 1, 2020 Mrs. Velma Kennedy of Wainwright, Alberta passed away at the Wainwright Health Centre at the age of 72 years.
She is survived by her loving family; three children, Maryann Brown of Czar, Alberta, John Longmire of Wainwright, Monica Couillard of Wainwright; three step children, Travis (Belinda) Kennedy of Wainwright, Lance (Regina) Kennedy of Wainwright, Cindy (Darrin) Hill of Provost, Alberta; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; her mother, Jean Bond of Wainwright; one brother, Henry (Pauline) Bond of Wainwright; numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Ron Kennedy; son-in-law, Douglas Krause; her father, Raymond Bond.
A Graveside service for Velma will be conducted on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at 2:00 PM from the Wainwright Cemetery. If so desired the family suggests memorial contributions to the charity of the donors choice.
Samuel Genaille

Mr. Samuel Genaille of Stettler, passed away in the early hours of Saturday, February 18, 2012 at the age of 80 years. He is survived by his wife Juanita of Stettler, children Betty of Calgary, Norm of Lantana, Florida, Donna of Calgary and John of Victoria, BC. Sam is also survived by two grandchildren William and Gillian as well as many other relatives and many very dear friends. A graveside funeral service was held at the Lake View Cemetery in Stettler on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. with the Rev. Arlan Parenteau of the Christ-King Catholic Church as Celebrant. JOHNSON, Kenneth Raymond

On Tuesday, February 23, 2016, Kenneth Raymond Johnson of Mundare, Alberta peacefully passed away at the age of 77 years.
Kenneth is survived by numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Conrad and Lena Johnson along with one brother Norman.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 2:00p.m. at Autumn Rose Funeral Home (5036-51 Ave.) in Vegreville, Alberta with Reverend Ken Stumph officiating. Cremation has taken place. Inurnment to follow at a later date in the Tofield Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the “Alberta Cancer Foundation” or to “Akasu Palliative Care – Vegreville.”
Olive Nelson

Mrs. Emily Olive Nelson known to all as Olive passed away on November 6, 2013 surrounded by her family and in the comfort of nurses and staff at Lacombe Continuing care at the age of 95 years. Olive is survived by her loving family Elaine (Dick) Bruggencate of Gold River, BC, Carol (Terry) Lee of Lacombe, Janice (Bob) Stenberg of Alder Flats and Barry (Penny) Nelson of Red Deer. Ten grandchildren, Lynette (Curtis) Aikens, Jay (Jennifer) Bruggencate, Kyle (Maxine) Bruggencate; Teryl Fankhanel, Cindy (Reg) Krause; Denise (Jeff) Colyn, Mark (Sharon) Stenberg, Shane Nelson, Duane (Delores) Nelson, Nadine Nelson; seventeen great-grandchildren Christopher Aikens, Chelsea Aikens, Janna Bruggencate, Gerrit Bruggencate, Jacklyn Bruggencate, Tyler Bruggencate, Colby Bruggencate, Ashley Bruggencate; Paytten Fankhanel, Alexander Krause, Parker Krause; Serafia Colyn, Jacob Colyn; Joshua Nelson, Christian Nelson, Justin Nelson and Avery Nelson. Olive is also survived by her brother George (Nora) Greenfield of Stettler and her sister Gertrude Lomsdal of Minnesota, USA. She was predeceased by her parents Henry and Emily Greenfield, her husband David Nelson, her infant daughter Betty Nelson and by one sister Hazel Wyville. A service to celebrate Olive's wonderful long life will be held at the Veteran United Church on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. with the Rev. Sue Hertell officiating. James Tyler
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James (Jim) Lindley Tyler, 80 years of age, on September 25th, 2016. Jim passed at St. Joseph's Hospital in Vegreville, surrounded by his immediate family. Jim is survived by Margaret, wife of 56 years, three sons, Ken (Dora) , Jeff (Veda) and John (Harumi) , and one daughter, Elizabeth (Stan) , as well as seven grandchildren and two sisters Mary Anne and Dixie. Jim is pre-deceased by his parents Jack and Irene, and his two brothers Jack and Bill.
Jim was born in 1936 near Wardlow, Alberta. At age 15, in 1951, Jim joined the army and served two deployments in the Korean conflict. Upon returning to Canada in 1956, Jim began a life-long career as a long-haul trucker that took him over the length and breadth of Canada and the United States.
A memorial service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion hall in Vegreville on Tuesday, September 27. Doors will open at 11:00 AM with the service starting at 12:00 noon and a light lunch to follow. In lieu of flowers or gifts, donations are appreciated at either the Vegreville Akasu Palliative Care Society at St. Joseph's Hospital or the Royal Canadian Legion, Vegreville and/or Two Hills branch.
Dorothy Schenstead
On Tuesday, April 12, 2016 Dorothy Zillah (Coe) Schenstead, of St. Walburg, Saskatchewan passed away at the age of 86.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, April 18, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Turtle Lake Mission, near Livelong, Saskatchewan.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Carl (Slim) , 2 brothers David and Robert (Bob) , granddaughter Cassandra McKeen and great-granddaughter Theresa Schenstead.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Gerry (Mike) McKeen, Laurel (Doug) Smith, Lyn (Bill) Cosh, Eric (Marlene) Schenstead, Charmaine Schenstead, and Michelle (Richard) Harris.
Her grandchildren, Yvonne (Bart) Cosh, Danielle Nichol (Dan) , Terri Hutz (Dan) , Michel (Caila) Schenstead, Mark (Twyla) McKeen, Rebeccah (Chad) McFarland, Tasha (Matt) Loewen, Andrew (Rebekah) Smith, Matthew (Melissa) Smith, Leif Schenstead-Harris, Geoffrey Smith (Alexa) , David Smith, Chris Tinga, Julia Harris, Aliona Harris (Chris) .
Her Great-Grandchildren: Logan (Maddie) Cosh, Morgan Nichol (Rhodena) , Jennifer (Philip) Retzlaff, Connor Nichol (Katelyn) , Jessica Hutz, Stephanie Hutz, Austyn Schenstead, Abby Schenstead, Brayden Schenstead, Seth Loewen, Lachlan McFarland, Bohdy Schenstead, Cohen McKeen, Christchian Harris, Cazda Schenstead, Hannah Smith, Scarlett McKeen, Caiden Harris, Leroy Smith, and Connor Smith.
Her Sister-In-Law Mrs. Sheila Coe of Fort McLeod, Paul (Val) Coe, LeeAnne Harbin, Rob (Kyla) Coe, Christopher Coe, Sandy & Ben Hann, and their families, as well as nephew Garry (Gloria) Schenstead.

ROELOFS, John Anthony
John Roelofs of Clyde passed away April 5th, 2016 at the age of 87 years. John is survived by his loving wife, Dora; five children, Joanne (Keith) , Peter, Eric (Wilma) , Karen, Eileen; six grandchildren, Nicole, Brent, Kelsey, Jordan, Mathew, and Jason; siblings Truus, Elly, and Theo. John came to Canada to Fulfill his dream of owning a farm. He settled in Clyde and built a life with his wife Dora and five children. He was involved in many community groups throughout his life. Family gatherings held a special place in his heart along with the farm life. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday April 9th, 2016 with Fr Ambrose Umeohanna smmm officiating. Marion McKercher
1916 – 2014
Mrs. Marion McKercher passed away peacefully on September 14, 2014 while residing at Points West Living. Marion was the eldest surviving daughter of John and Florence Innocent of Big Valley and she was born on December 22, 1916. During Marion’s mid-teens, her mother passed away. She very willingly took on the motherly role to care for her eight siblings and her father. Marion received her public education by attending Zenith and Botha schools. She married Wilfred McMahon on November 19, 1937 and through this marriage, they had a son and a daughter. After her husband was discharged from the Air Force, they moved from Calgary to Penticton, B.C. Marion loved gardening and Penticton was where she had the opportunity to have a large vegetable garden, fruit trees and a few pet animals. They moved to Kitimat, B.C. in December 1956. While residing in Kitimat, she worked for the post office for 23 years. Her husband, Wilfred passed away on December 21, 1958. She stayed in Kitimat and continued working for the post office. She married Doug McKercher on June 21, 1965. After they retired they finally settled in Creston, B.C. Her husband Doug passed sway on May 13, 1981 leaving her alone again. During the summer of 1991, Marion returned to Stettler to be closer to her brothers and sisters. She was able to have a large vegetable garden, two cats and continue doing her hobby of quilting. Much of her garden produce went to the local food bank and her many quilts went to family and friends. Marion will be greatly missed by many, but especially by her son, Jack McMahon (Beverley) , daughter Sylvia Thompson (Stephen Berman) , brother John Innocent (Vally) , sisters Mary Thomson (Bob) , and Dorothy Isaac, sister-in-law Madeleine Innocent, granddaughter Julie Spence, grandsons Keven Spence and Andrew McMahon, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Marion was predeceased by her parents, husbands Wilfred McMahon and Doug McKercher, her brother Ken and wife Emma, Murray, sister Florence and husband Tom, brothers Ralph and wife Edith, Don and wife Rose and grandson Shane Thompson. A special thank you to all family members and caregivers who assisted Marion in her later years of life. A funeral service will be held in the Brennen Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, September 26, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Ross Helgeton officiating. A light luncheon will be served after the service. The interment of Marion’s ashes will be done at a later date by her son and daughter in the Botha Woodland Cemetery. Thelma Jean Scott
Died: Sat., Mar. 26, 2016
Thelma Jean Scott (Dewar) of Westlock passed away peacefully on March 26, 2016 at the age of 102. She was born on September 6, 1913 in Vermillion Alberta and grew up in Big Valley, Alberta. After high school she attended Normal school in Calgary and then went on to teach in a one-room schoolhouse near Rumsey, Alberta, where she met her future husband, Bruce Scott. She continued her teaching career in Lacombe, Taber and Big Valley until after World War II, when she married Bruce after he returned from serving overseas. They farmed in the Rumsey area and started a family. In 1956 Thelma, Bruce and their three boys, Nelson, Jim and Don moved north to Westlock. Shortly after the move Bruce passed away leaving Thelma to raise her three boys as a single mother. She returned to teaching at the Westlock High School. She spent the summers upgrading her education and taking her boys on camping vacations all over Alberta. She sacrificed a lot to raise her children and she was very proud of the men they became. She retired from teaching in 1975 only to get busier. She volunteered at the Westlock library, museum and most especially, at the Westlock United Church. Her life was full of love, laughter, students, friends and most importantly family. She will be terribly missed. Thelma was predeceased by her husband Bruce, her parents Frank and Elizabeth Dewar, her aunt Emily Hay, brother Lawson Dewar, and sister Margaret Hemphill. She is survived by her sons Nelson (June) of Edmonton, Jim (Michelle) of Grande Cache, and Don of Westlock, five grandchildren, Pam Luck of Edmonton, Graham Scott (Jennifer) of Red Deer, Robin (Kirsten) of Grand Prairie, Nicole (Dallas) Dakin of Grande Prairie, Leslie (Becca) Oliver-Scott of Grande Cache and five great grandchildren, Paige Luck, Carter Luck, Helayna Scott, Jack Scott, and Blair Scott. A Memorial Service will be held Monday April 4th, 2016 at the Westlock United Church at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, Thelma requested that donations be made to the Westlock United Church or to a charity of your choice in c/o 10004 105 Street Westlock, Alberta T7P 1V2.
