Predeceased by his wife Ellen in 1980, he is survived by his daughter Barbara Mossman (Marc) and grandson Ian of Woodland, Washington; a brother John Wylie of Comox, B.C.; and a sister Dorothy Pimentel of California. Born November 23, 1912 in Glasgow, Scotland, Bert came to Canada in 1947. He worked for the CPR for many years before his employment with the Calgary Board of Education for twenty-three years. POGUE -- W. Gordon died peacefully December 22, 1997 at Foothills Hospital after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his son Donald (Carol) of Calgary; and his sister Mary Coons of Thessalon, Ontario; loving grandchildren, Stephen, Carolyn, Teresa, Anton (Jeanne), Michael, Tim (Leslie) and Karen; three great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kirsten and Douglas; together with cherished daughters-in-law, Mary Jane of Calgary and Gwen of Sandpoint, Idaho. He was predeceased in 1993 by his loving wife Elsie, and his sons, Douglas (1992) and David (1993). Born in Peterborough, Ontario in 1908, Gordon received his professional training at George Williams College and North-Western University in Chicago where he married Elsie in 1930. Moving to Toronto in 1934, he established Pogue Health Service, an athletic club and health education facility, later pioneering the same health and fitness service in Calgary from 1950 to his retirement in 1974. For the next twenty-two years, he remained active in Lahaina, Hawaii until ill-health brought him back to Calgary. He was highly regarded for his dedication to well-being, and remained, until the end, a promoter of healthy living. Heartfelt thanks is extended for the dedicated and tireless efforts of the entire staff of Unit 47 and the Dialysis Unit staff of Foothills Hospital. RACICOT -- Beatrice (Bea) Racicot (nee Swett) of Calgary, passed away at the Intercare Chinook Care Centre on Tuesday, December 23, 1997 at the age of 86 years. Bea was born on March 5, 1911 in Shefford County, Quebec. She has resided in Calgary since 1975. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mindy and Sherman Talbot of Brampton, ON; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Nancy Racicot of Cochrane, Neil and Violeta Racicot of Calgary; three grandchildren, Catherine and Mark Gellatly, Todd Racicot, and Jan and Lyle Huska; and a great-grandson Tyler Neil Gellatly. Bea was predeceased by her husband George in 1960. SCHMIDT -- Aleksandra Schmidt (nee Makrocki), passed away peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on December 21, 1997 at the age of 82 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Lucy; son-in-law Andrew; grandsons, Michael and Oliver; as well as three sisters, Apolonia, Stanislawa and Julia; one brother Peter; and many dear relatives and friends. Aleksandra was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1954. She was predeceased by her husband Alexander in 1974. Aleksandra was a most loving mother, grandmother and friend. SMITH -- Oscar Scane Smith passed away at the Rockyview Hospital on December 22, 1997 at the age of 88 years. He is the loving father to Marlene (Don) Brooks of Calgary, Harley (Lois) Smith of Yarker, ON, Karen (Charlie) Jurek of Manotick, ON, and Dennis Smith of Calgary. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Marla, Carolyn, Lisa, Kirk, Kim, Wendy, Janelle; and by his great-grandchildren, Logan and Leah. Predeceased by his beloved wife Eleanor on April 28, 1997, and by three brothers and one sister. Oscar was born in Ridgetown, Ontario. In 1931 he joined the Canada Life Insurance Company in Sarnia, Ontario. He worked in Sarnia, Regina and was manager at the Calgary Branch from 1953 until his retirement in 1980. He was for many years a member of the Glencoe Club, the Ranchmans Club, and very active in the Rotary Club of Calgary South. Oscar was loved and admired by all those who knew him, and the memories he has left behind will be treasured forever. The family would like to thank the staff at the Beverly Centre and the Bethany Care Centre for their special care to Oscar. TAYLORSON -- Robert S. (Bob) Taylorson passed on to be with his Lord while at home on December 21, 1997 at the age of 87. Bob was born in Sunderland, England on May 16, 1910. He had resided in Calgary all of his lifetime except for two years as a child in the Olds District, and five years while employed in Regina. He held positions for twenty years with Burns and Company and with Palm Dairies, and at the time of his retirement was General Manager of the Western Division and Management Consultant of Lennox Industries (Canada) Ltd. In 1975-1976 he served as Chairman of the Board of Creditel of Canada Ltd. He was a member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Calgary. He also had a part for several years in the Canadian Cancer Society Daffodil Campaign. He was an active member of the First Church of the Nazarene for over sixty-five years. Bob gave himself to the work of his church with joyful enthusiasm and served in a variety of capacities which included Board Member, Sunday School Superintendent for over twenty years, and as Director of Senior Adult Ministries (SAM) from 1978 to 1990. He will be remembered for his depth of concern and helpfulness to other people, and for his ready wit and refreshing sense of humour. This world is a richer place because he was here. Bob will be dearly remembered by his loving wife of forty-five years, Opal; his nephews, Rev. Gerald (Gladys) Fowler, Rev. Gordon (Eleanor) Fowler of Calgary; his niece Helen Heth of Edmonton; nephews, George (Sharry) Taylorson and Glenn (Gail) Taylorson; niece Pat Mordaunt; sisters-in-law, Eldred Taylorson and Pearl McConchie, all of California; as well as numerous grandnephews and nieces. He was predeceased by a sister Molly Fowler, and a brother Dr. J. George Taylorson. WALTER -- Mr. Ernest (Ernie) John Walter of Calgary, passed away at the Colonel Belcher Hospital on Tuesday, December 23, 1997 at the age of 89 years. Ernie was born in July 1908 in Walter Falls, Ontario. He had served overseas in the Army during the Second World War. Ernie is survived by his three sons, Bruce, William, both of Calgary, Tom of Lethbridge; and two daughters, Cheryl Jones of Sundre, and Joyce and Jim Grewcutt of Airdrie; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Jerry in 1972. BROUGHTON -- Omar Junio, beloved husband of Anne Broughton, High River, passed away suddenly near his home on December 22, 1997 at the age of 79 years. Besides his wife he is survived by his sons, Barrie (Marion) Broughton, Lethbridge, Lindsay Broughton (Lisa Pashniak), Edmonton and Timothy Broughton (Karen Marshall), Toronto; and his grandchildren, Drew, Chris, Noel and Mark. He is also survived by his sisters, Evelyn Johnson and Ruby (Julius) Nordstrom, all of Camrose, Phyllis (Bob) Munson, Red Deer and LaVonne (Des) Pitts, Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his brother William Broughton, Camrose, and Bertha Broughton (Edmonton). Omar was born and raised in the Donalda district. He served overseas with the R.C.A.F. (1940 to 1945) and then received his B.Sc. in agriculture at the U of A in 1950. He was employed as farm commentator for CJOC Radio, Lethbridge and later as Corporate Secretary for Alberta Wheat Pool and Marketing Commissioner for Alberta Agriculture. He retired to active farming in 1983 at High River where he has resided since. Funeral Services will be held at the High River United Church on Monday, December 29 at 2:00 p.m., the Rev. CAMPBELL -- Mr. Alexander (Alex) Campbell of Calgary, passed away after a short illness on December 24, 1997, at the Peter Lougheed Hospital, at the age of 81 years. Alexander is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Darlene Campbell of Calgary; and a daughter and son-in-law, Mabel and Ted Takacs of Osoyoos, B.C.; as well as six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother-in-law Bert and wife Madie of Victoria, B.C.; and a sister-in-law, Ev Pocock. Alexander was predeceased by his loving wife Lillian Agnes in July of 1997. COUSER -- Thomas David Warmington, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on December 24, 1997 at the age of 80 years. Tom will be fondly remembered by his children, Bonnie (Alvin) Workun of Leduc, Linda Teskey of Hinton, and Kathleen Orr of Toronto; his grandchildren, Randy (Lori) Workun of Leduc, and Matthew and Amber Teskey of Hinton; his great-grandchildren, Christopher and Kristen Workun of Leduc; and his sisters, Dolly Tees, Madge (Charlie) Taylor, and Edith (Lorne) Springsteen, all of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Madeline Irene, his sisters, Edna Constant, Kathleen Adkin, and Helen Galbraith, and his grandson Kevin David Scott Workun. Tom was born in St. James, Manitoba in 1917. He served in the R.C.A.F. from 1940 to 1945. Upon leaving the service he was a longtime employee of Air Canada working in Moncton, Winnipeg and Calgary. Tom has resided in Calgary since 1953. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. DUCHARME -- Raymond, beloved husband of Barb of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on Tuesday, December 23, 1997 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 49 years. Besides his loving wife, Ray is also survived by his children, two sons, Rod and Chad, both of Calgary, and daughter Keri, also of Calgary; one sister Cecilia Bertetic (Carlo) of Kelowna, B.C.; four brothers, Paul of Toronto, ON, Tony (Dorothy) of Petersfield, MB, Murray (Sherry) of Calgary, Richard of Kelowna, BC; and sister and brother-in-law, Evelyn and Walter Tulman of The Pas, MB; also numerous nieces and nephews.
