Mrs. Janet Sylvia (nee Watson) Keen
November 19, 1916 - September 13, 2007

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Sylvia Keen.

Sylvia was born in Silton, Saskatchewan and grew up on her parent’s farm. After graduation, she found employment and attended Business College in Regina, where she met her future husband, Alfred Keen. Sylvia was predeceased by Al in September, 1986.

She is survived by her children Wayne (Donna), Gary, and Silvie, and granddaughter Courtney, brothers William and Thomas Watson, and sister Dorothy Wilson.

After her marriage to Al in 1941, the couple eventually moved to Alberta to raise their family. In 1951, they built their home in Montgomery, where Sylvia still resided until very recently. Remembered for her quiet strength and sacrifice as a wife and mother, and for her dry sense of humour, Sylvia will be eternally loved and never forgotten.

The family wishes to thank the staff of the Bow View Manor for the exceptional care and hugs they provided to our Mother in her final four months of life. Our heartfelt thanks also to Dr. Joan Huang.

A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Leyden’s Funeral Home, followed by a Graveside Service at Queens Park Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made directly to the ALS Society of Alberta (Suite 400, 320 23rd Avenue SW, Calgary, Alberta, T2S 0J2) or Alzheimer's Society of Canada (20 Eglinton Avenue W, Ste. 1200, Toronto, Ontario M4R 1K8).

Mrs. Eveleyn Rose (nee Lysyk) Boonov
November 12, 1931 - August 24, 2007

With profound sorrow, we announce the sudden passing of Evelyn Boonov on August 24, 2007 at the age of 75 years.

Beloved wife and devoted companion of fifty-two years of Ralph Boonov, Evelyn will lovingly be forever missed by her daughter Anna and son-in-law Russell MacDowall of Lethbridge, AB, and was a doting “Baba” to her beloved grandson Daniel.

Evelyn was predeceased by her cherished daughter Margaret in March 1996, whose tragic loss she carried in heart to the end of her lifetime.

Evelyn was born on November 12, 1931 in Winnipeg, MB and lived there with her loving family until she married Ralph in July 1955.

Evelyn began married life traveling with Ralph to the many locations where his work assignments took them, and after completion of Ralph’s contracts in Brazil, they returned with their two daughters, in the late summer of 1963, to settle in Calgary.

Once the family’s life was firmly established, Evelyn was able to pursue her love of music and theatre and devoted many years volunteering in activities connected with the children’s schooling.

Her pride in her cultural heritage led her to renew ties with the Association of United Ukrainian Canadians, and in time, the whole family became participants in the activities at the Ukranian Centre, where many life-long friendships were formed.

Evelyn loved to travel and the frequent family visits “home” to Winnipeg and the vacation trips with Ralph and the children were a great source of pleasure for her, always.

Since retiring form Sears Canada in September 1991, Evelyn was an active volunteer with several charities that had a special meaning for her. Greater involvement at the Ukrainian Centre, led to many years of enjoyment from being able to apply her culinary skills in creating lunches for fellow members of the Ukrainian Seniors Club.

Evelyn’s love of life and family, and her daring spirit will be lovingly remembered by her dear sister, Irene Douglas and her children Cecile (Gerry), Russell (Lise) and Michelle (Shane) and their families; sister-in-law Becky Bertulli and children Harold, Alan (Dale), Ian (Linda) and their families and sister and brother-in-law Janet and David Boonov and their children Sharon (Albert) and Stuart (Marcie) and their families.

Evelyn was predeceased by her mother, Anne Myskiw, sisters Margaret and Stephanie and brothers-in-law Gordon Douglas and Emilio Bertulli.

The family wishes to thank her physician, Dr. Nancy Love and Dr. Nicole Fahlman and Linda Brown, R.N. of the CHR Rheumatology Clinic for their loving care of Evelyn with her recent health problems.

In Loving Memory
And Her Arms Are Open Still…

There will be no service held in Calgary, as it was Evelyn’s specific wish that interment would take place in Winnipeg; a family memorial will take place there at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made directly to the ‘Miriam and Arnold Winston Endowment Fund’ in care of the Canadian Intensive Care Foundation, P.O. Box 56045, Airways R.P.O Calgary, AB T2E 7C0, or the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements entrusted to Leyden’s Funeral Home Reception and Cremation Centre (17th Avenue and 2nd Street SW)

January 1, 1917 - September 18, 2007

Harold was predeceased by his wife Louise in 2005 , his brothers Chester, Harry and Roy and his sister Velma (Golias). Harold was born on the farm, east of Barons on January 1, 1917.

He went to school at Dollar Lake and one year in Claresholm.

He married Louise in 1942 and farmed until his grandson Trevor took over in 1999.

A celebration of life was held at the Barons United Church on Saturday, September 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m.
