- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -HONEYCHURCH - Mr. Wilfred Honeychurch of Calgary, beloved husband of fifty years of Helen, passed away peacefully at the Bethany Care Centre Calgary on June 5, 1997 at age 79. He is also lovingly remembered by his children, Bruce (Beth), Judy (Kelly) Saunders, Neil, Don (Linda), Sue, Roy (Darlene); and his grandchildren, Dean, Shaun, Sarah, Lisa, Amy, Jeffrey, Matthew and Megan. Wilf is also survived by his sisters, May Taggart of Burnaby, Ann Woodward, Florence (Bud) Dick, Helen (Bob) Petersen; brothers, Les (Dorie), Ray (Monica); and sisters-in-law, Minnie and Dorothy. Wilf was a native Calgarian who volunteered to serve with the Canadian Army in 1939. He served with the 8th Field Ambulance, the Royal Canadian Engineers, and with the South Saskatchewan Regiment during the Dieppe Raid. After returning from overseas, Wilf worked as a yardman for the CPR for thirty-four years until he retired at the age of sixty-three. He acquired a love of music through a long association with the Salvation Army and played a variety of instruments in the King's Own Calgary Regiment (militia) band. He was also a band leader and instructor with the Calgary Lions Club Boys and Girls Band for many years. Wilf also enjoyed singing, first as a boy soprano, even performing on the radio and later singing in the Northminster United Church Choir. He completed his final high school course and received his diploma at the tender age of forty-six. Other favorite activities included skating, shinny hockey with his grandchildren and completing the Calgary Herald Road Race at the age of sixty-two. Heartfelt thanks are extended to Dr. Addison and the staff on the Sixth Level of the Bethany Care Centre for their kind and loving attention. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, June 13, 1997 at Northminster United Church (3311 Centre Street North) at 3:00 p.m. with Reverend Linda Benson officiating. HONIG - Mr. Dieter Honig, beloved husband of Mrs. Caecilia Honig of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on Thursday, June 26, 1997 at the age of 63 years. Besides his loving wife, Dieter is also survived by his children, Regina and Dieter Manke, Theresia Honig, all of Germany, Franz Honig, Richard and Denise Honig, Stephan Honig, and Maria Honig, all of Calgary; and two grandchildren, Fabian and Samantha. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at St. Peter's Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive N.W.), on Tuesday, July 1, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church on Wednesday, July 2, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. HOOKHAM - Roy Hugh, born in Toronto, Ontario, December 18, 1924, passed away on October 19, 1997 at home. He was the last born of three sons, to his late parents, Joseph James Hookham and Jessie Florence Hookham, eldest daughter of Colonel Frederick Charles Denison (Rusholme Branch in Toronto, Ontario). Roy was educated in Ontario at Alexander Muir School and Central Technical School. In 1942 he joined the R.C.A.F. as a Wireless Air Gunner and served in World War II at Manning Depot, Toronto, Pre Air Education Department in Guelph, Wireless School No. 2, Calgary, Alberta, Bombing and Gunnery School, Paulson, Manitoba and he graduated with the rank of Sergeant. He was transferred to Chatham, N.B., No. 10 Air Observer School and then overseas to England. He obtained an honorable discharge in February, 1946. In 1947, Dorothy and Roy were married and he assisted in raising their children. He joined the No. 1 Legion in 1948 and served with the poppy campaign for quite a number of years and recently had been serving as a Deputy Returning Officer for the Branch Elections. As well, he started employment at the City of Calgary as a clerk in the collections office of the Utilities Building. In the early 1950's he was moved into Data Processing where he was responsible for the set up of the department. Later, he joined the National Machine Accounting Association and was a chartered member and eventually president. In 1962, he joined the Calgary Amateur Radio Association and graduated as an Amateur Radio Operator with the call letters VE6ALS, later to have the call letters VE6RH which he held to date. He graduated from S.A.I.T. as an Advanced Radio Operator in 1964 with full operating privileges on the Amateur Radio frequency spectrum. While with the C.A.R.A. he served as treasurer, QSL manager, Publisher of Key-Klix and was granted a Life Membership in the association in November, 1973. Since that time, he was actively involved in many aspects of amateur radio functions, including Treasurer of Caratels. That year, he undertook the complete responsibility to place Ham Operators in approximately twenty polling stations throughout Calgary to report Municipal Elections results to City Hall and out to the news media. In 1986, for the very first time all one hundred and ninety polling stations had radio operators assigned to report results to the news media. Upon retiring in January 1980, after serving thirty-two years and credited with over three years of active combat service during World War II, he attained the required combination of age fifty-five with thirty-five years service. In 1986, after retiring he set up a retirees luncheon for Data Processing members. He loved Math problems and worked hard at solving them quickly which gave him pleasure. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy; his only brother Earle (Audrey); his five children, Katherine, Karen (Terry), Dave, Wayne and Ginny (Ron); his grandchildren, Linda, Robert, Rick, Scott, Mathew, Jeremy and Trevor; and great-granddaughters, Cayla, Samantha and Leah. HOOVER - Henry Hoover, beloved husband of Mrs. Vera Hoover of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Centre in the presence of some of his family on June 24, 1997 in his 87th year. He is the loving father of three daughters, Carolyn and Verne Stuber of Calgary, Gloria and Gary Hutton of Hanna, and Judi Henderson of Calgary; two sons, Elden Hoover of Delia, and Lauren and Cindi Hoover of Calgary; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his five brothers, Rudy, George, Sam, Alex, Ray; and three sisters, Tina Whaley, Tillie Goodkey, and Lil Styles; three brothers-in-law, Dean Stair, Bob Stair and Bill Stair; sister-in-law Isabel and Mac English. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Henry was predeceased by his parents, George and Lydia Hoover and sister Annie Sieppert, and granddaughter Shawntel Henderson. Henry married Vera Mary Stair of Patricia, AB on June 27, 1943 in Hanna, AB. They shared a wonderful life together for fifty-four years. HOPLEY - James H. "Jim" A golden heart stopped beating two working hands at rest. July 14, 1905 - October 7, 1997. Jim Hopley passed away peacefully at the Forest Grove Centre, October 7, 1997 at the age of 92 years. He is survived by his stepdaughter Jean Ramcharran (Vince) and family. He is also survived by his dear friend Nelda Morrison and family, as well as other family members in Wales. Jim was a very special loving, caring person who always had a smile and a kind word for everyone he met. His gentleness and great sense of humour will be remembered by all family and friends. KININMONTH - (nee Pearson), Betty June (Teddy) passed away peacefully at her home on September 13, 1997. She was 65 years young. Born in Calgary, Alberta August 31, 1932. June was raised on the Clear Springs Ranch South East of Calgary. She attended the Springland School, trekking daily to the one room school house on her horse Tiny. Later June went to Haltain and Western Canada High. In 1953 she moved to Parkland, Alberta and married Richard McPeak. She had two children, Amber and Ted. She returned to Calgary in 1961 to help run the family business and raise her children. In 1975 she married Leonard Kininmonth, together they resided at his farm N.W. of Airdrie. June enjoyed the farm and was an excellent homemaker and gardener. She loved nature: flowers, birds and the mountains, which she captured in her paintings. She had exceptional artistic ability and gained personal fulfillment from her ability. She explored many artistic medias. Standouts being watercolors, china painting, wood carving and taxidermy. June was a member of the Cochrane Art Club, Rangeview Ladies Club, Calgary Woodcarvers Association and Active Member of the Airdire Rural Community. Her greatest pleasures in life were family get-togethers, especially at Christmas time. June is survived by her daughter Amber Pearson; son Ted (Marci) McPeak; two grandchildren, Marina and Cameron; her sister Pamela Knowles and brother Gary Schang; niece Dawn (Dana) Drummond and their children Selena and Malik. She was predeceased by her parents, Ted Pearson and Pauline Pearson-Schang, her cherished husband Leonard Kininmonth. No one could ask for a more caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. KINLOCH - Violet Luella (nee Sharp). Peacefully at Kootenay Lakes Regional Hospital on November 30, 1997 in her 84th year. Predeceased by her beloved husband Alexander. Beloved mother of Albert Kinloch and wife Noeline of Okotoks, Alberta, and George Kinloch and wife Frances of Cantley, Quebec; dear grandmother of Katherine Wight and husband Dan, and David Kinloch and wife Linda, and Heather and Natasha; and great-grandmother of Carolyn and Ian. KINSHELLA - Ricky Wayne Kinshella of Calgary, passed away suddenly at his residence on June 2, 1997 at the age of 30 years. Rick was born on June 13, 1966 in Prince George, B.C. and was raised in Calgary, Alberta. Rick was a devoted and loving Christian. He is survived by his parents, Marilyn and Wayne Kinshella; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Sandra Kinshella, Kim and Phil Oakes, all of Calgary. He is also survived by his grandmothers, Lil Small of Calgary, Thelma Bexson of Marwayne, Alberta; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends.
