- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -FOWLIE - James Gordon Fowlie, beloved husband of Chris Fowlie, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 1997 at the age of 72 years. He is also survived by a son Jamie; two daughters, Melody and Beverly; two grandchildren, James and Samantha; his mother Janet Garry, Winnipeg, Manitoba; a sister Mary Fowlie; two brothers, Tom and Bill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Jim was raised and educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba, served with the R.C.A.F. for thirty-one years retiring as a Warrant Officer in 1974 to Calgary. He was a Past Master of Glenbow Lodge No. 184 A.F. & A.M., a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Calgary, and for twelve years was the Secretary-Registrar of the Valleys in Calgary A & A.S.R. He was Coroneted by the Supreme Council of Scottish Rite Masons in 1990 and received his 33 Degree; a life member of Hamilton Valley A & A.S.R.; a Past First Principal of Alberta Chapter R.A.M., member of Cyprus Preceptory No. 33, member of The Red Cross of Constantine, served as Worthy Matron of Chinook Chapter No. 133 O.E.S. twice, also of Arnprior Chapter O.E.S. Jim was also active with the Boy Scouts of Canada for over twenty years. He was an active member of the United Church of Canada and served in various offices from a Sunday School teacher to an Elder. Jim was a member of St. Andrew's United Church. Funeral Services will be held at St. Andrew's United Church, 924 Heritage Drive S.W. (Heritage Drive and Elbow Drive S.W.), Saturday, June 21, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Murray W. Etty officiating. SCHAFER - Maria (Oma) Schafer, a resident of the George Boyack Nursing Home, passed away peacefully on June 11, 1997 at the age of 87 years. She is survived by three children, Val Gogorenko of Calgary, Kasimir (Jim) and Emma Schafer of Sparwood, BC, Alexander and Ursula Schafer of Calgary; also twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren. Maria was predeceased by a son Valdemar in 1945, and her husband Kasimir in 1988. She was born in the Ukraine on November 10, 1909. She emigrated with her family to Canada in 1951, into the Lethbridge area and settled in Calgary in 1952. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, June 14, 1997 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Monday, June 16, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. LIBIN - Bernard Lawrn Libin, beloved husband and best friend of Phyllis of thirteen years, passed away peacefully on July 5, 1997, after a courageous fight with cancer at the age of 63 years. Bernard was born August 24, 1933, in Calgary, Alberta. He began his career in the men's clothing business with "Reliable Clothing Company" and later, in partnership with his brother Gilbert, opened the "College Shop" in 1955. After enjoying success on the Eighth Avenue Mall, they moved the shop to "Penny Lane" and changed the name to "David Austin Clothiers", where they remained until closing the shop in 1981. Besides his loving wife, Bernard is survived by his mother Rose; a son Steven; a daughter Miriam; a step-daughter Leah; a brother Gilbert and his wife Mary; a brother-in-law Richard and his wife Betty Anne Williams; a nephew Sean and his wife Christie; all of Calgary. Bernard was predeceased by his father Sam in 1986. His dignity, intelligence, compassion, grace, sense of humour and kindness to anyone he met will be missed by all of us who knew him and loved him. The family graciously declines floral tributes. If desired, donations can be made in memory of Benard, directly to the "Agape Manor" or to a charity of your choice. LIDDELL - Thomas McRoberts (Tom) Liddell, beloved husband of Doreen Liddell of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Rockyview Hospital on November 18, 1997 at the age of 70 years. Tom was born June 10, 1927 in Cambuslang, Scotland; he later met and married his beloved Doreen on April 1, 1950. In 1959 they emigrated to Canada settling in Calgary. Following a long career in the foundry business, Tom retired in June of 1992. Besides his loving wife, Tom is survived by one son Iain Liddell of Calgary; one daughter Anne and her husband Steve King, and one grandson Tommy, all of Botha, Alberta. He is also survived by one brother Alex and his wife Bett, and one sister Helen and her husband Allistair Smith, and four nieces, all of Scotland. NORMAN - Mrs. Betty Anna Norman, beloved wife of Don Norman and very special mom and friend of Kelly Eaton of Calgary, passed away in the comfort of her home on July 6, 1997 at the age of 58 years after a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Betty is lovingly remembered by her husband Don; her daughter Kelly Eaton, Kelly's husband Dave and their children, Jessica and James. Betty will also be deeply missed by her brother Bill Lust (Gwen), and her sisters, Shirley Ellis (Harold), Eileen Lust, Jo-anne Kurash (Rick), Susan Van Stockum (Emmett), Erin and Peter as well as many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to Dr. Linda Fong and the loving nurses who cared for Betty. Betty was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by her many "Special Angels". Up to the time of her illness, Betty worked for Canadian Hunter Exploration where she became very close to many of her co-workers and counted them among her friends. She was an avid outdoor enthusiast and loved spending her time skiing, hiking, camping, gardening and running. Betty always maintained her zest for life in spite of her illness and will be loved and remembered by all who knew her. QUON - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Sam Dor Quon, on Sunday, June 15, 1997 at the age of 104 years. Sam Dor was born in Hoiping, Kwangtung, China and moved to Canada in 1958. She is survived by her daughter Kwie Sam Quon; and sons, Sanders Kwan (Don You), and Danny Quon (Don Son). She will also be greatly missed by her eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Sam Dor was predeceased by her husband Yip Chew Quon in 1952 and her son Donald Quon (Don Yee) in 1967.
