VAINIO - At Sarnia General Hospital on Sunday, November 16, 1997, Carol Joan (Castle) Vainio, age 59 of R.R. No. 1, Wyoming. Beloved wife of the late Raine Vainio (1996). Dear mother of Kirsti Nutt and her husband Ron of London, and Brett Vainio and his wife Laurie of Calgary. Loving grandmother of Shawn and Kelsey Nutt, and Shea and Chelsea Vainio. Sister of Arthur Castle of Sarnia. Funeral Service will be held from the Chapel of the D.J. ROBB FUNERAL HOME, Sarnia on Wednesday, November 19 at 11:00 a.m. with Cremation to follow. VAN DOREN - Gregory Miles. Our dear and loving son, brother and friend Greg, passed away suddenly at his home in Calgary, Tuesday, November 18, 1997 of natural causes, at the age of 43. He leaves to grieve, his parents, Diane and George Van Doren; a sister Tina Simpson and her husband Stuart, and their children, Connor and Spencer; brothers, Robert Van Doren, Paul Van Doren and his wife Wendy, and their son Owen; and Lewis Van Doren, and his children, Levi, Brittany, and Cortanie; his grandmother Julie Carr; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins; as well as special friends, Denise and Allan, Maggie and Dwight and Linda. He was predeceased by his great-aunt Bertha Meiklejohn Edwards in July of this year. Greg grew up in Three Hills, graduated from the University of Calgary, and pursued his career with AON Reed Stenhouse Limited. He will be missed so much by his family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 - 16 Avenue N.W. (across from North Hill Shopping Centre) on Friday, November 21, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations may be made to the charity of one's choice. MACY - Mary Christina (Duncan). Passed away peacefully October 19, 1997 at Columbia View Lodge in Trail B.C. Mary was born on August 16, 1919, in Regina, Saskatchewan. She attended school in Olds, Alberta and Business College in Victoria, B.C. Mary worked as a Secretary, later entering the hotel and motel business, retiring in Golden in 1981. She loved and cared for her family. She was also fond of animals. She enjoyed gardening, especially with flowers, and attracting and feeding a variety of wild birds. Mary was predeceased by her husbands, James Duncan in 1960, Walter Macy in 1994, and brother Alex Black in 1991. Mary will be dearly missed by her daughter Jamie (Kerry) Kimmins; four grandchildren, Stephen (Kerry) Kimmins, Jason (Stephanie) Kimmins, Daryl (Raegan) Kimmins, Sharon Kimmins; two great-grandsons, Matthew Kimmins and Michael Kimmins; a brother Bill Black; and several nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at Foster's Garden Chapel, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Calgary at 3:00 p.m., Friday, October 24, 1997. Burial to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. DEVLIN - Helen Mary (nee Bekaert), passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on June 29, 1997 at the age of 82. She was predeceased by her husband John in 1972, and son Ronald in 1988. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Janet Hornsby (Don); her sisters, Suzanne Senden and Madeline Gibb of Winnipeg; six grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be conducted by Major Shirley King, at the Salvation Army Senior Lodge, 3015 - 15 Avenue S.W., on Wednesday evening, July 2, at 7:00 p.m. Many thanks to the doctors and nurses of Unit 59 at Rockyview Hospital for their tender devoted care and kindness (7/2/1997).
deWITTE - Geerard (Gerry) deWitte, beloved husband of Mrs. Merina Merilyn deWitte of Calgary, passed away in Berlin, Germany as a result of complications to surgery following a jobsite accident on September 5, 1997 at the age of 50 years. Gerry was born August 2, 1947 in Barsingerhorn, North Holland, immigrating to Canada when he was five. He grew up in Moncton, New Brunswick, moving to Ontario and then to Calgary. He received his grade twelve equivalent and electronic training while serving in the Canadian Air Force. Gerry married Merina (nee Hack) on December 27, 1973. He worked in the seismic industry of the oil business for nearly twenty-five years, many of which were spent in Latin America. Gerry was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Besides his loving wife, Gerry is also survived by his father, Jan deWitte and his wife Shirley; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Emil and Brenda Jansen, Peter and Jane deWitte, Laurie K. Bourgeous; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Alice and Collis Batson, Nancy and Chester Tingley, and Katherine Savoie. He was predeceased by his mother Catharina deWitte van de Velde. Funeral Services will be held at Calgary Central Seventh-day Adventist Church (1920 - 13 Avenue N.W.), on Saturday, September 13, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Roy Jamieson and Pastor Mel Djkowich officiating. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. DHINDSA - Mrs. Kirpal Kaur Dhindsa passed away in the Foothills Hospital on June 6, 1997 at the age of 66 years. She is survived by her loving children, Sukhwant Shergill, son-in-law Baldev Shergill, Sukhbir K. Dhindsa, Gurdeep and Preet Khaira, Romi and Vicky Dhalla. Kirpal is also survived by six grandchildren, Nimrat, Natasha, Harjyote, Maninder Pal, Arshdeep and Gursharan; her father Sardar Satgurdial Singh Bal; sisters, Balwant, Rajinder, Ranjeet and Perminder; her brother and sister-in-law, Inderjit and Melwinder; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter Arvinder, her mother Gulab Kaur and a sister Ravinder Kaur. Funeral Services will be held 6:00 p.m. on Monday, June 9 at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery). RICH - Ruth Isabella, born July 5, 1915 in Nanton, Alberta, passed away June 16, 1997 at Hawthorne Care Centre, Port Coquitlam, B.C. Predeceased by husband Henry (Hank) in 1979 in Dawson Creek, BC. Beloved mother of daughters, Ruth (Jim) Robertson of Port Moody, BC, Ronna (Peter) Taylor, Coquitlam, BC; son Harvey (Marnie) Rich of Delta, BC; grandchildren, Sherry, Blair (Fiona), Christy Robertson; Brian (Lisa), David Taylor; Jason and Wesley Rich.
