DEAKIN - Mrs. Helen Irene Deakin passed away suddenly at the Southwood Nursing Home in Calgary on December 28, 1997 at the age of 87 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Doug (Helen) and family of Calgary; her daughter Gail Lonsberry (Donald) and family of Jasper and Kamloops; sister Kay McDonald of Victoria, B.C.; and younger brother Harold Stackhouse (Dorothy) of Edmonton. Born on June 18, 1910 on a homestead located near South Cooking Lake, Alberta. Helen took her elementary education at the Ministik Lake School, which still exists, and her Commercial High at McDougall, the Edmonton school which the late Percy Page made famous through his coaching of girl's basketball. In addition to raising and ensuring the best education available for her children, Helen pursued her love of bookkeeping, firstly at the Farmer's Union of Alberta, in Edmonton, and following the family's move to Edson in 1954, with Pattinson Insurance Services in Edson, Alberta, until her retirement in 1975. For so many years as she was able, Helen's passion was the promotion of family unity and the hosting of weekend get-togethers of family and friends at the Deakin residence in Edson. "Mom", you will always be remembered for your bright cheerful smile and your warm hospitality; not to mention those great "care packages" we inevitably took home with us after each weekend. Helen was predeceased by her husband Edward in March of 1980. Funeral Services for Helen Irene Deakin will be held at the Foothills Chapel of the EDSON FUNERAL HOME LTD., 5040 - 6 Avenue, Edson on Friday, January 2, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Les Halliwell officiating andInterment will follow in the family plot, Glenwood Cemetery, Edson, Alberta. The family wishes to express special thanks to the caring staff at the Southwood Nursing Home, Residence Association. Any desired memorial donations may be made in Helen's memory to the Southwood Nursing Home, 211 Heritage Drive S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2H 1M9. EDSON FUNERAL HOME LTD. (Robert C. DEBSKI - Mrs. Irena Debski, beloved wife of Mr. Kazimierz Debski of Calgary, passed away at the Bow View Nursing Home on Saturday, July 5, 1997, after a long illness, surrounded by her family, at the age of 85 years. Besides her loving husband, Irena will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Tad Dabrowski; grandson Michael and his wife Louisette; and two great-granddaughters, Isabella and Sophie. She is also survived by friends and family in Poland, Canada and overseas. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke's Catholic Church, (Corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive N.W.), on Wednesday, July 9, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow in "St. Joseph's Section" at Queen's Park Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Parkinson's Society of Southern Alberta, 480D, 36 Avenue S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2G 1W4. In living memory of Irena Debski, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, "Chapel of the Bells", 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH. (7/7/1997).

DEDERER - Mr. John Leonard Dederer of Medicine Hat, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Viola Dederer, passed away in Calgary after a brief illness on Friday, December 12, 1997 at the age of 75 years. He is the loving father of Denise (Tony) Cooke of Calgary, David (Delores) Dederer of Medicine Hat, Noreen (Tim) Leach of Medicine Hat, and Katherine (Robert) Bordas of Sherwood Park. John is survived by seven grandchildren, Graham Cooke, Janet Cooke, Jamie Leach, Julaine Leach, Dionne Bordas, Raylene Bordas, Hayley Bordas; three step-grandsons, Grant Lefler, Boyd Lefler, Trevor Lefler; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a special caregiver Ida. He is also survived by two sisters, Esther McWilliams of Medicine Hat, and Hanna Rae of New Westminster. John was predeceased by his parents, Adolph and Wilhelmina, one sister Clara Gargett, and three brothers, Albert, Alex and Rennie. John was a Lance Corporal with an Infantry Unit during World War II. He worked in family businesses throughout most of his life. John was very involved with the Gas City Kiwanis Club as a Charter Member, and was later honored with lifetime membership. He will be remembered for his love of music and his dry sense of humour. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at COOK SOUTHLAND FUNERAL CHAPEL on Tuesday, December 16, 1997 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., and on Wednesday, December 17, 1997 one hour prior to the Service. The Funeral Service will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, 901 - 13 Street S.W., Medicine Hat, on Wednesday, December 17, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Heart & Stroke Foundation, No. 124, 403 - 6 Avenue S.E., Medicine Hat, T1A 2S8 or The Salvation Army, 164 Stratton Way S.E., Medicine Hat, T1B 3R3. DEDHAR - Mrs. Noorbanu Dedhar passed away at the Foothills Hospital on November 28, 1997 at the age of 85 years. Funeral Services will be held at the Ismaili Jamat Khana and Centre (4623 - 11 Street N.E.), on Sunday, November 30, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace Cemetery. In living memory of Noorbanu Dedhar, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES "Park Memorial Chapel", 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W., CALGARY. (11/29/1997).

TOBLER - Ruth Elizabeth Tobler (nee Hill), beloved wife of Arthur Tobler, passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on October 27, 1997 at the age of 71 years. She is also survived by her sister Jean Hill of Edmonton and numerous nieces and nephews. Ruth worked at the Calgary General Hospital as a Service Aid. Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOMES "Garden Chapel", 3220 - 4 Street N.W. on Thursday, October 30, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. Interment at Rocky View Garden of Peace. TODD - Lila Todd, 89, of Maple Ridge, BC, formerly of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan passed awaypeacefully on December 4, 1997 at home in the company of her family. She was predeceased by her loving husband Bill, with whom she spent sixty-one happy years. She is survived by her two daughters, Pat (Lorne) Larson and Janie (Adrian) Smith of Calgary; her grandchildren, Ron Larson, Karen Todd-Larson, Tristan Smith and Geoffrey Smith, and four great-grandchildren.The family would like to thank the staff of the Foothills Hospital and Tom Baker Cancer Centre for their kind and caring treatment of Nana. Special thanks to Dr. Martin LaBrie and Home Care nurse Donna Gies for their expertise and compassion. A Memorial Service will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 3220 - 4 Street N.W. on Monday, December 8, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, Directors. (12/6/1997).

CARMICHAEL - Donald William, beloved husband of Mrs. Doreen Carmichael of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on September 15, 1997 at the age of 64 years. He is the loving father of one son and four daughters and four sons-in-law, Patric Carmichael, Calgary, Deb Corneau (Stan), Calgary, Fay Tetsull (Mark), Calgary, Shanyn Poirier (Ken), Chilliwack, B.C., Shari Fisher (Cliff), Calgary. He is also survived by sisters, Muriel Stasiuk of Calgary and Fern (Frank) Gue of Burlington, Ontario. He was predeceased by his parent, two brothers Paul and David. The love for his beloved wife Doreen is immeasurable. His children and grandchildren were a continuous source of happiness, pride and comfort to him. We grieve for a man who had so much yet to share with us, but we are cradled in the warmth of his love and all the joy he left with us. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alberta Lung Association. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at All Saint's Anglican Church, Robert Road and Renfrew Drive N.E., Friday, September 19, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. (8/18/1997).

CARRINGTON - Jean Roberts Carrington of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 8, 1997. Jean was born in Calgary and lived throughout the years in Calgary, Nanton, Lethbridge and Strathmore. Jean will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by her brother John Stephen of Chilliwack, B.C.; and her three children, and their families, Donna and Syd Mitchell, Rob and Michelle, Heather and Carl, and "wee" Ryan; Catherine and Bill Rowley, Jason and Darren; and Susan and Edward Weisse. The family would like to extend a warm "Thank You" to Dr. Ward Fanning and the medical staff of the Strathmore Hospital for the loving care shown to our mother. At Jean's request, a Private Family Service will be held. A luncheon for relatives and friends will be held at Royal Canadian Legion Centennial Branch No. 285, 9202 Horton Road S.W., Calgary on Wednesday, September 17, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. If relatives and friends desire, the family requests donations be made in Jean's name to Srathmore District Health Services, Palliative Care Fund, 200 Brent Boulevard, Strathmore, AB T1P 1J9.
