- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -BERRY - Dr. James Ralph Berry passed away in Midland, Texas on December 12, 1997 at the age of 84 years. Predeceased by his wife Bertha in 1995, he is survived by two daughters, Lorraine Vander Kelen (Ron) and Marilyn Weatherman, both of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and one son, Jaimie Berry (Irene) of Calgary; as well as four grandchildren, Kelly and Katey Vander Kelen, and Mark and Chad Weatherman. Born in Medicine Hat in1913, he graduated from the University of Alberta with a B.Sc. M.D. and then specialized in Ophthalmology at Toronto Western. He served as a Major in the Armed Forces during World War II from 1939 to 1945. His medical practice spanned some fifty years in Calgary, Havre, Montana, Las Cruces, New Mexico and Midland, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 10827 - 24 Street S.W. on Thursday, December18, 1997 at 1:30 p.m., Rev. Timothy Boyle officiating. BERTAMINI - Last call for the Conductor Alf Aldo Bertamini. He boarded his last road trip on November 27, 1997 at the Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, BC. Alf will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend Kay of fifty-one years; son Terry (Jo-Anne); daughter Bonnie (Dallas), grandsons, Mike, Todd, Damon and Kevin; brothers, Geno (Babe), Beno (Irene) and sister-in-law Arlene, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his mother and father and brother Art. Alf was born in Coalhurst, Alberta, May 22, 1924. Spent most of his younger years in Rosedale and Drumheller. Moved to Calgary in 1948 spending thirty-five years with the C.P.R. Upon retiring he moved to Sicamous, B.C. He was cremated in Kamloops and taken back to Drumheller where Memorial Services will be held at St. Magloire Anglican Church on Saturday, December 6 at 2:00 p.m. If desired, donations can be made to Heart&Stroke Foundation in Alf's name (12/3/1997).
BERTRAND - Mrs. Helen Irene Bertrand of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Foothills Auxiliary Hospital on Wednesday, July 2, 1997 at the age of 83 years, surrounded by her family. Helen was born in Munson, Alberta on October 4, 1913. She taught school in Munson and Liberty. She married Robert Bertrand on October 10, 1937, lived all her married life in Milo, moved to Calgary in 1984, and resided there until the time of her passing. Lovingly remembered by her daughter Janice; son Gary and his wife Linda; three grandchildren, Douglas and his wife Anika, Christopher, Curtis; and two great-grandchildren, Morgan and Dakota. She was predeceased by her husband Robert, sister Lillian, and brother Clarence. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Chapel of the Bells" (2720 Centre Street North), on Monday, July 7, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. BEVAN - Rev. Edward (Ted) Bevan. Born in Cwymparc, South Wales on August 18, 1900. Ted has gone to be with his Lord, passing away peacefully, in his sleep, at home on June 7, 1997. Ted worked in the coal mines with his father from the age of fourteen. In 1930, he married Sarah, his wife for fifty years and they had three children. While working Ted studied for the Ministry. He became Minister to a group of Churches in Gloucestershire in 1935, serving in different Churches of the Baptist Union until retirement in 1963. In 1972, Ted and Sarah came to Calgary for a visit, returning to England after eighteen months to emigrate and settle in Calgary. Ted was invited to join the First Baptist team of Ministers, which he did in 1974. He and Sarah served the Church faithfully in Ministry to the Senior Citizens. Ted retired again in 1983, but became part-time Chaplain at Trinity Lodge before finally retiring. Ted was predeceased by his wife Sarah and granddaughter Margaret. He leaves behind his daughter Joyce, husband Brian, grandsons, Jonathan (Judith), Tim (Mary); and three great-grandsons, Benjamin, Peter and Samuel; his son David and wife Mary, granddaughters, Julie and Jane (John), and two great-granddaughters, Sarah and Victoria. They all live in England. In Calgary, he leaves his daughter Mavis, son-in-law Bill, grandchildren, Nicola and William; and "adopted" daughter Alice and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Eyesight International, 4 Parkdale Crescent N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 3T8. BEXTE - Andrea Dawn (nee: McKay) of Calgary, Alberta, passed away suddenly June 9, 1997 at Toronto, Ontario at the age of 28 years. Dawn was blessed with a devoted husband, David; two precious sons, Kyle and Keean. She is also survived by her father Gordon McKay and his special friend Marilyn Ferguson; her mother Barbara McKay; two brothers, Bruce (Diane) McKay, all of Calgary, and Bradley (Melanie) of Vulcan; mother and father-in-law, Nadine and Hubert Bexte; a brother-in-law Cody (Lisa) Bexte; a sister-in-law Mardi (Murray) Scott, all of Arrowwood; five nieces and two nephews. Dawn was an inspiration to all who knew her. During the past eighteen months she faced numerous challenges with openness and courage, choosing to cultivate opportunity from adversity. She loved life and modelled for all of us how to "enjoy what there was to enjoy instead of suffering what there is to suffer". Her warm beautiful face and infectious laugh communicated a genuine love and caring for others. She has left a rich and healing legacy to all her family and friends. Dawn was predeceased by her grandfathers, Bruce McKay and Norman Code. Behold the dawn, the fairest of all visions Day's glory now appears Arise for the night hath fled arise and greet the dawn. Welcome her, unveiled she now appeareth All things greet her radiant smile. BEZOPLENKO - Laura passed into the Lord's presence June 18, 1997. ADAMS - Jasper "Joe" Adams of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Centre on November 4, 1997 at the age of 69 years. Beloved husband and best friend to Sylvia; father and hero to Kevin and Dennis. Also surviving is a very special brother and sister-in-law, Mick and Valene Perdue; as well as nephews, Leonard and Lloyd Perdue; as well as many friends. Jasper came from a pioneering family, was born and raised in the Peace River country of Alberta. He was raised with a true "Cowboy Spirit", and moved to Calgary in 1950. Jasper fought courageously with arthritis for many years of his life, and then with heart disease for the last few years. Despite this, he involved himself in many passions from being involved with horses with his sons, collecting Canadian Folk music, inventing, painting and his love of music and songwriting. He loved his jam sessions, especially get-togethers with "The Singing Circle". Special thanks to Mick and Val Perdue and family; also to the nurses and staff on Unit 44 of the Peter Lougheed Centre. KORDOBAN - Agnes. On September 11, 1997, Mrs. Agnes Kordoban passed away at the age of 78 years. She is survived by twin daughters, June and Judy; one brother Joseph (Kayte) Daciuk; sisters, Sophie Diachuk, Nancy Paziuk, Olga (Mike) Kotanko, and Ann Watson. Agnes was predeceased by her husband George, parents, John and Tillie Daciuk, and by Mary Bachinsky, Bill Daciuk, and Elsie Hassay.
