- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -YURCHEVICH - Stephan (Steve) Yurchevich, beloved husband of Ann, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on September 9, 1997, at the age of 69 years. Steve was born on December 26, 1927 in Okucani, Croatia and came to Canada in 1929 with his mother and two brothers. Reunited with their father who emigrated from Croatia the previous year, the family resided in the Camrose area before moving to Calgary in 1941. Steve joined his father and brothers as a partner in NY Construction, where he was responsible for the construction of many Calgary churches and schools. Steve's leisure time was spent with his family and many friends coaching and participating in numerous sports and outdoor activities, including a very active involvement in the Calgary radio control sailplane community. Steve will be remembered for his honesty and integrity, devotion to his family, innovative craftsmanship and for his love of life. Besides his loving wife of forty-six years, Steve will also be remembered by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Louise of Vancouver, B.C.; and his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Bill of Calgary. He is survived by his brother Joseph; his sister Anne; as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Steve was predeceased by his parents, Nicholas and Juliana, and his brother John. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Pius X Catholic Church (2424 - 24 Avenue N.W.), today, September 12, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. John F. Murphy, C.S.B., Celebrant. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. HAWKEY - Mr. John Lawrence Hawkey, born on August 15, 1909 in Airdrie, Alberta, passed away on October 16, 1997 at the Westview Manor in Calgary. John leaves three children, Sharon Parrish, John Hawkey Jr., and Robert P. Hawkey. He had seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. John was a Flying Instructor at No. 5 E.F.T.S., High River, during World War II. He was an employee British American Oil and Gulf Oil Canada for thirty-seven years before retiring in 1974. The family would like to take this opportunity to express their thanks to the staff and residents of the Westview Manor. HAYDON - Helen Marjorie Haydon, beloved wife of Wilfred Haydon, passed away November 5, 1997 at the age of 85 at the Glenmore Park Auxiliary. Helen was born April 21, 1912 in Port Arthur, Ontario. The family moved to Swift Current, Saskatchewan where her father was a city engineer. Later the family moved to Edmonton where she completed high school and commercial school. On October 17, 1942 she married Wilfred Evans Haydon. For fifty years they resided in Edmonton and in April of 1992 they moved to Calgary to be near their children. In November of 1994, Helen moved into Glenmore Park and in May of 1996, Wilf joined her there. She is survived by her husband Wilfred; her children, Ron and Carolyn of Calgary; as well as Ron's wife Chris and their two daughters, Cathy of Ottawa and Darlene of Calgary. She is also survived by brother Jim (Olive) Calder of Renfrew, Ontario; and sisters-in-law, Gladys New of Calgary, Elsie Calder and Fran Calder, both of Edmonton. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and Hector. Helen was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was intensely proud of her two granddaughters. Special thanks to the staff of Glenmore Park for the loving care she received. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Monday, November 10, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. LUFT - Ethel of Calgary, passed away in Boulder, Colorado on Wednesday, December 17, 1997 at the age of 71 years. She is survived by one son and two daughters, Rick (Sue), Judy Donaldson (John Thomson), Deborah Soby (John); and five grandchildren, Wendy Alana, Barbara and Cameron Luft, Shannon and Kelsey Donaldson. LYTLE - Shirley Marie (nee Carroll). Born May 22, 1931 at Wainwright, Alberta. Died September 11, 1997 at North Vancouver, British Columbia. Shirley is survived by her husband Clifford Lytle; her daughter Deborah Lytle, son-in-law Pasquale Arienzale, and grandchildren, Richard and Petria Arienzale; her son Alexander Lytle and daughter-in-law Sandra Ens; and her sister Jacqueline Rollans. CROSBY - On November 29, 1997, Heather Lisa Crosby died after a brief and intense fight against leukemia. She approached her last days as she approached all the challenges in life; with determination and a feisty spirit. Those close to her will remember her for her energy, the intensity with which she lived life and her commitment and devotion to her family, friends and animals. Heather was born in Banff on July 11, 1952 to a family with long histories in the Banff area. Heather will be greatly missed by her parents, Rob and Evelyn Crosby; children, Justin, Lisa and father Mel, Nicky and father Andy, brother Rick; sister Anita; nieces Amanda and Ginnylou; nephews, Greg and Todd; aunts, uncles and cousins. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, December 4, 1997, at St. Georges in the Pines, in Banff at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Hematology Oncology Research &Education Fund, Room 681, Foothills Hospital, 1403 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary AB T2N 2T9, where Heather received such great care (12/3/1997).
CURRY - Hilda Curry (Spani) (nee Lord) passed away peacefully at the Brentwood Nursing Home on June 1, 1997. She was born on April 15, 1917 at Renown, Saskatchewan and attended school in the Hawkshaw District of Saskatchewan. Hilda married Cosmas Xavier Spani in Saskatoon in 1936. They lived and worked for a time on Mr. and Mrs. Lord's farm before moving to Watrous in 1939. During the war Hilda worked at Spectors Clothing Store while Cos was overseas. After his return she worked at Walsh's Store. In 1954 Hilda and Cos bought the Watrous Manitou Dry Cleaning Plant and ran it together until Cos' death in 1957 at which time Hilda continued to successfully operate the plant. During this time Hilda was an active member of the Watrous United Church, the Senior Choir, the Eastern Star, the Legion ladies, the Watrous Chamber of Commerce and the Rotary Club. In 1963 Hilda sold the business and moved to Calgary where she worked as a cosmetician at Stadium Drugs, Sears, Zellers and the Shoppers Drug Mart on 8 Street S.W. until she retired in 1982. She married Robert Curry in 1967. During this period Hilda was an active member of the Chinook Winds Sweet Adeline's continuing her love for music. During her retirement Hilda traveled, visiting family and friends and took great delight in her home and yard. Hilda loved Calgary and had a special place in her heart for her two Siamese cats, Muffet and Muffin who are now fifteen years old. Hilda became ill in 1989 and moved into the Brentwood Nursing Home in 1990 where she remained until her passing. Hilda is survived by her loving daughters, Marilyn (Eldon) Stein of Boston Bar, BC and Judy (Bryan) Lambertson of Sylvan Lake, AB; grandchildren, Sandra (Rick) Jones of Boston Bar, BC, Glen Stein of Hope, BC, Tracye Lambertson (Chris Hielema) of Canmore, AB; great-grandchildren, Kyle and Kraig of Boston Bar, BC; sister Dorrie (Jack) Smith of Chase, BC; sisters-in-law, Jean Lord of Calgary, Josephine Moir (Spani) of Saskatoon, and Vi Spani of Burnaby, BC; and nieces and nephews. Hilda was predeceased by her parents, Agnes Lord (Hendy) and Arthur Lord, her husband Cosmas Spani, and her brother Ted Lord. The family would like to extend a warm thank you to the staff at Brentwood Nursing Home for the care they gave Hilda and especially to her companion and special friend Rhonda Sundberg, who did so much for Hilda for so long. Memorial Services will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, June 6, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Aldeen McKay of Trinity United Church at Fort Macleod officiating.
