Jim was an instructor in Culinary Arts at SAIT for twenty-two years. Henriette extends her heartfelt thanks to Home Care nurse Pam Brown and special thanks to the staff and volunteers of the Rosedale Hospice for the loving care and attention given to Jim during his lengthy battle with cancer. A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on November 18, 1997 at Eglise Ste. Famille Church, 1719 - 5 Street S.W. SKARUPA - Mrs. Rose Mary Skarupa, of Calgary, passed away suddenly at the Foothills Hospital on November 23, 1997, at the age of 81 years. Rose was born and raised in Calgary, attending both King George Elementary School and Crescent Heights High School. She was very devoted to her family and will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Rose was also active with her church and a lifetime member of the Catholic Women's League. Rose is the loving mother and friend of a daughter Marg Skelton of Calgary; two grandchildren, Sean, Craig and his wife Janice; two great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Michael. She is also survived by a sister Amelia Podgurny of Edmonton, and numerous nieces and nephews. Rose was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1966. SMITH - Darcy Lee Smith, of Okotoks, born June 28, 1962 at High River, passed away at the High River Hospital on November 7, 1997. Darcy leaves to mourn his loving wife Maureen, son Jordan and daughter Tori-Lee. He was the eldest son of Ray Smith and Iris Smith and brother to Kim (Richard), Dan (Juanita) and Shaun (Annette). He was a favourite uncle to Tyler, Christie, Kieshia and Erin. He also leaves to mourn his mother-in-law Agnes Peters and her family; and grandmother Dorothy Lawrence of Black Diamond. He will be lovingly remembered by his long time and closest friends, Paul Poulin, James Percival and Bev Jerrett. Darcy was predeceased by his grandfather Douglas Lawrence and grandparents, Jack and Hazel Taylor (Hemus). He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as the loving and caring friend who always had good things to say to everyone. His greatest pride was the fact that he was a Captain with the Okotoks Volunteer Fire Department. Darcy was educated in Okotoks and worked as a cook and baker at several Okotoks locations, most recently under Don Gilbert as assistant manager at the I.G.A. bakery. Don and his employees became good friends and supporters of his family during his courageous struggle with his illness. Darcy will be missed by his many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends. MISLAN - Mrs. Agnes Clara Mislan of Red Deer, passed away at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, on Thursday, June 5, 1997 at the age of 74 years. Agnes was born on March 10, 1923 at Gallahad, Alberta. She attended high school in Forestburg, and completed a business/accounting program at Camrose. On April 17, 1948, Agnes married Andrew Mislan and together they raised a family of four children. In Calgary, Agnes was president of the Catholic Women's League, district commissioner for the Girl Guides, active with the John Howard Society and still found time to help others. In Red Deer she volunteered at the Red Deer Regional Hospital, Life Line and fund raising programs, as well as a volunteer with the Royal Canadian Legion and Catholic Women's League. Agnes lived her life by the rules taught by her family and the Roman Catholic Church, and lived in absolute regard for family values. She is survived by her loving children, Garry and his wife Eileen of Breckenridge, Minnesota, Dawna and her husband Bud of Red Deer, Kenneth and his wife Marie of Calgary, and Daniel and his wife Margaret of Calgary; her nine grandchildren, Lorin, Jamie, Ryan, Briana, Teresa, Paul, Laura, Michael and Christopher; two sisters, Margaret Perry of Okotoks and Marian (Lionel) Summer of Heisler; and two brothers, Alfred (Kathleen) Prehn and Joseph (Shirley) Prehn, all of Forestburg, AB. As well as her parents, Emil and Mary Prehn, Agnes was predeceased by her husband Andrew, brother Edward and brother-in-law Joseph Perry. MITCHELL - Mr. Francis Carvel Mitchell, beloved husband of Anne of Calgary, passed away unexpectedly on December 3, 1997 at the age of 63 years. Francis was born on October 18, 1934 in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. He moved to Alberta and resided in Strathmore until moving to Calgary in 1978. Francis was a self-employed plumber until he found a "home" at S.A.I.T. working in Campus Operations. He enjoyed instructing new apprentices. Francis loved dirtbiking, camping, touring, boating, water-skiing and golfing. He was a kind, loving, selfless person who always put others before himself and he will be dearly missed. He is survived by two daughters, Tracy and Wendy; five grandchildren, Lindsay, Tyler, Stephanie, Jeff and Sean. He is also survived by a brother Ernest Mitchell and his family of Nova Scotia; a sister Jennie Mitchell of Ontario; and numerous other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Roland and Hilda Mae and his brother Ralph (Mitch) Mitchell in 1996. MITTELSTADT - Adele Mittelstadt of Calgary, passed away on December 27, 1997 at the age of 87 years. She is survived by her sons, Harry (Christa) of Nelson, B.C., Heinz (Brigitte) of Seattle, WA, Horst (Anna) of San Mateo, CA, and Bruno (Sharon) of Calgary; fifteen grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Adele was predeceased by her husband Robert Mittelstadt in 1995, and a grandson Hardy Mittelstadt. NARGANG - Hilda Anne Nargang, loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away at Foothills Hospital on Monday, October 20, 1997 at the age of 91 years. Hilda was born in Ontario in 1905 and lived in Glidden and Kindersley, Saskatchewan until moving to Calgary in 1960. She is lovingly remembered by her family, Joan Kelm, Cheryle, Murray (June), Blair (Tina), and Yvonne (Per) and families; Carol Olson, Greg (Elaine), Clark (Kathy), Marleea (Bob), and Marilyn (Cam) and families; and Shirley and John Johnston, Doug (Darlene), Terri (Dale), Karen, and Kim (Dale) and families. She was very proud of her twenty-one "greats" with two on the way; as well as several nieces and nephews. Hilda was predeceased by her husband Victor in 1977, her son Clinton in 1979, and by sisters, Helen, Sybil and Vera, and brother Allan. A Memorial Service will be held at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 - 16 Avenue N.W. (across from North Hill Shopping Centre), on Friday, October 24, 1997 at 3:00 p.m., Pastor Greg Olson officiating.
