PIERCEY - Charles William "Bill" Piercey, of Calgary, passed away June 20, 1997 at the age of 73 years. Bill will be sadly missed by his wife Elaine; their children Robert Piercey (Ilze), of Calgary, Carolyn Paegel (Helge), of Calgary and Rosemarie Smaldon (Alan), of Durban, South Africa; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; a sister Doris Emberley (Corbett), of Hamilton, Ont., and other relatives and friends. Bill was predeceased by a son William Albert Piercey in 1967, and a sister Gladys Woodfine and her husband Victor. Bill was proudly born and raised in Newfoundland. At age sixteen he jointed the Navy and entered active service. After the war, he moved to South Africa where he met and married Elaine. They began raising their family in South Africa and moved to Calgary in 1966 where they have resided since. Bill was a member of the American Brotherhood of Carpenters and will be missed by all who knew him. Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6560 Silver Springs Crescent N.W., on Monday, June 30 at 7:00 p.m. with Bishop Robb Wolff officiating. Arrangements in care of PIERSON'S FUNERAL SERVICE. (6/23/1997).

PITT - Dorothy Elizabeth Pitt, beloved wife of Red Pitt, of Calgary, passed away suddenly on Thursday, September 4, 1997. She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children, son Jim Pitt of Calgary; daughters, Dianne (Leigh) Broadhurst of Cochrane, Cathy (Ross Clarke) Pelletier of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, and Shirley (Doug) Haidey, also of Cochrane; as well, she was the loving grandmother to, Jeff (Anna) Pitt, Deanne Pitt, Clint Pelletier, and Kari and Kelly Broadhurst. Dorothy is also survived by one sister, Josephine Somoya of Las Vegas, Nevada and numerous other relatives. She will live forever in all our hearts. Cremation, Calgary Crematorium. A Memorial Service will be held at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 - 16 Avenue N.W., (across from the North Hill Shopping Centre), on Monday, September 8, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Sharon Barlow officiating. In lieu of flowers, if desired, a donation in Dorothy's memory may be made directly to the Alberta Children's Hospital, 1820 Richmond Road S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2T 5C7. Funeral and Cremation arrangements in care of HERITAGE FAMILY FUNERAL SERVICES, "Heritage Funeral Home" (9/7/1997).

SABOURIN - Mr. Antonio Gaston Sabourin of Calgary passed away at home, on October 14, 1997, at the age of 60 years. There will be a Memorial Service in Winnipeg at a later date. Cremation and arrangements in care of LEYDEN'S FUNERAL HOMES LTD. (10/19/1997).

SAILER - Milton. Beloved husband of Doris, passed away at Kentville Hospital, Nova Scotia on December 9, 1997 at the age of 61 years. He is survived by his four children, Ralph (Sheryl), Sandra and Brett of Halifax, Christine (Steve) Howard of Calgary; as well as three grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Marjorie (Ron) Jones and brother Dale (Betty) Sailer of Calgary. Milt was predeceased by parents, Ralph and Sylvia Sailer of Medicine Hat. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (12/13/1997).

SAWYER - Lester Lynn, beloved husband of Mrs. Angela Sawyer of Calgary, passed away suddenly on November 13, 1997 at the age of 51 years. Besides his loving wife Angie, Les is also survived by his children, Rebecca Sawyer and Ryan Sawyer, both of Calgary, Shawn Burrell of Winnipeg, and Les and Angie's little pal Sparky. He is also survived by his mother Ethel Sawyer, and brother Lorne (Grizz) Sawyer. Les was predeceased by his father Lester N. Sawyer. Les was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 424 of Edmonton for thirty-one years. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him in Canada and the United States. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, November 21, 1997 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Friday, November 21, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to the homeless. Arrangements entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY and FUNERAL HOME, 17 Avenue S.E. at Garden Road (3 km East of 68 Street S.E.). (11/19/1997).

SAYERS - John Alexander Sayers, of Calgary, passed away October 20, 1997 at the age of 68 years after a very courageous battle with emphysema. He will be sadly missed by his beloved and loyal companion of over twenty-five years, Dorothy; his children, Buck, Peter, Archie and Linda; a brother Clarence; and other relatives and friends in Calgary and the Olds/Sundre area. John worked in the Olds/Sundre area as a farm labourer and oilfield construction worker before moving to Calgary in 1977. While in Calgary, John was employed in various labourer positions. He has worked with the city of Calgary Parks Department for the past ten to twelve years, until his illness forced him to retire a few short years ago. He was a very compassionate and caring person to his friends, sometimes going out of his own way to help them with financial problems or to share the fruits of his own labour. He will be sadly missed. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of Pierson's Funeral Home, 4121 - 17 Avenue S.E. on Friday, October 24, at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Rocky View Garden of Peace. Arrangements in care of PIERSON'S FUNERAL SERVICE. (10/22/1997).

PIVEC - Maria Pivec (Mary), (nee Biber), passed away at her home on Friday, November 14, 1997, after a lengthy illness at the age of 75 years. Mary was born on November 24, 1921 in Siegersdorf, Austria. She married Frank Pivec in Graz, Austria. She followed Frank to Canada, arriving in August of 1953. They raised a son Alfred and a daughter Erika. Mary and Frank retired to Creston, British Columbia in 1979. Mary's husband Frank passed away on October 30, 1986. Mary returned to Calgary in December of 1995, where she resided until her passing. She had a great love for gardening and the outdoors and will be deeply missed by her family. She is the loving mother of a son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Shirley and their son Wayne of Priddis; a daughter and a son-in-law, Erika (Steve) Chapman and their two sons, David and Chris of Calgary. Mary is also survived by a sister Theresa Vantine of Arlington, Texas; four nieces, Margit Gspaltl and Heidi Resch, both of Austria, Ingrid Malcolm of Arlington, Texas and Jo McDonald of Tombstone, Arizona. She was predeceased by her husband Frank, and by her parents, Josef and Aloisia Biber, as well as two sisters, Josephine Klinger and Rosi Biber. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church (321 - 90 Avenue S.E.), on Wednesday, November 19, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Klaus Ludwig Hens, S.A.C. Celebrant. Graveside Service to follow at Eden Brook Memorial Gardens. In living memory of Mary Pivec, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, "Fish Creek Chapel", 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E., CALGARY. (11/17/1997).

MILLER - Alvin Finley Miller Sr., passed away at Mayfair Nursing Home on October 23, 1997 at the age of 85 years. Alvin is survived by his loving wife Anne of sixty years; his daughter Sharon Lelonde (Jack); son Alvin Miller Jr. (Lynn) and Joanne Archer (Terry). He also leaves to mourn him, his eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, and one sister from his hometown Carlyle, Sask. Special thanks to the caring nurses of Mayfair Nursing Home during his long illness. Alvin's passing will leave a void in the lives of everyone he knew and loved. A Memorial Service will be held in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, 703 Heritage Drive S.W., Calgary at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, October 26, 1997. Interment will follow in Whitewood, Saskatchewan. Arrangements in care of PIERSON'S FUNERAL SERVICE. (10/26/1997).
