NEWSOME - Mary Newsome, cherished mother of Evelene Newsome of Calgary, Fred (Lucy) of Westcott, and Peter (Susan), and Ken (Linda) both of Cremona, passed away peacefully with her four children holding her, on September 27, 1997, at the age of 84. Over the years Mary won many hard fought battles against asthma but lost her last fight to cancer. Grandma will be missed by Janene (Brock) Martin, James (Andrea) Watson, Laurie (Ernie) Steen, Dale (Judi) Newsome, Kevin, Robert, Tim, Shawn, Steven, and Brandice Newsome, and "old Grandma" (Great) to Shaun, Sheldon, Joel, Dakota, and Levi. She is survived by her twin sister Elna Miller and brother Norman (Margaret) Jensen, both of Calgary; her stepson Norman Newsome of Drayton Valley; step-grandchildren, Darrell, Diana and David; nieces, Karen Denby and Judy Carruther; and nephew Victor Jensen. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank in 1974, brother Verner in 1977, mother Karen in 1940, and father Peter in 1961. She was born February 6, 1913 on the location of the Spyhill Jail and spent her youth in the Westminster district. After her marriage to Frank in January 1941, they resided in Bearspaw district where they raised their four children. They moved to Cremona in 1965 and then retired to Calgary in 1972. Mary was an active member of altruistic groups in all areas she resided. She and her twin Elna were lifetime members of the Thorncliffe-Greenview Community where they spent hundreds of hours as volunteers and enjoying Bingo and the wonderful companionship of the Thorncliffe Seniors. She also bowled until health problems prevented her participation. Mary will also be missed by her many friends and acquaintances and remembered for her joy of life, her kind, gentle and never complaining personality, her great sense of humour which she maintained to the end. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at the Forest Grove Care Centre for their caring attention and kindness extended to their Mother. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, October 3, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held in Mountain View Memorial Gardens. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to S.T.A.R.S. (Box 570, 1441 Aviation Park N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 8M7), Canadian Cancer Society (Second Floor, 215 - 12 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 1A2), Asthma Society of Canada (130 Bridgeland Avenue, Suite 425, Toronto, ON M6A 1Z4), or to the charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY and FUNERAL HOME, 17 Avenue S.E. at GARDEN ROAD (3 km East of 68 Street S.E.) (10/3/1997).

NEWTON - Mr. Bud Newton, of Strathmore, AB, passed away September 12, 1997, at the age of 66 years. Memorial Services will be held at the United Church, Strathmore, on Tuesday, September 16, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. Lunch to follow. Interment at Rocky View Cemetery after lunch. In lieu of flowers, donations to Strathmore Fire Department (Rescue Tool) gratefully appreciated (9/16/1997).

NIBOGIE - (Yuzwenko), Isabelle. Born June 4, 1915 in Calgary, passed away June 9, 1997 peacefully in her sleep at the Foothills Hospital. Izzy was predeceased by her loving husband William. She leaves behind her children, Richard, Walter and Joyce, and their spouses, Trudy, Joan and Rod Runcie; her grandchildren, Brent, Christina, Michael, Steven, Krista and Jeremy; her great-grandchildren, Jason, William, Courtney, Christian and many other friends and relatives. Prayers will be held at FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOMES "Jacques Chapel", 240 - 17 Avenue S.W., on Thursday, June 12, 1997 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 4716 Worcester Drive S.W., on Friday, June 13, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. with the Very Rev. Leonard J. Hagel, Celebrant. Interment to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alberta Children's Hospital or the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) would be gratefully appreciated. TAYLOR - Andrew William (Bill) passed away suddenly on June 14, 1997 at Victoria General Hospital. Born on December 12, 1920 at Markinch, Scotland. Survived by his loving wife Billie; daughter Sheila and son Iain (Diane); grandchildren, Kelly, Lesley and Jennifer. Memorial Service to be held in First Memorial Chapel, 1155 Fort Street, Victoria B.C., on Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at 4:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined. LEWANDOWSKI - Tillie (Mathilde) Lewandowski passed away peacefully at the Rockyview Hospital on November 16, 1997 following a courageous battle with cancer. Mother to John Lewandowski and Eva Mundy; son-in-law Keith Mundy; grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren, John Jr., Jewell, Michael and Jennifer. She was born in Bremen, Germany and is also survived by her mother Wanda Witte and cousin Klaus Schwan, both residing there. A special thank you to her special friends, Maggie Palmer and Maureen Kane who offered much love and support during this difficult time. Funeral Service will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., on Monday, November 24, 1997 at 3:30 p.m. FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, Directors. (11/21/1997).

LEWIS - Vivian Ardith aged 32 years of Claresholm, Alberta passed away November 15, 1997, following her deteriorating health, beloved daughter of Stanley Lewis and the late Leona Lewis of Claresholm; and dear sister of Susan (David) Schwindt of Drayton Valley, AB, Kenneth Lewis of Claresholm, AB, Jeanine Lewis of Drayton Valley, AB; and loving aunt of Stephanie and Evan Schwindt of Drayton Valley, AB. Vivian is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral Services will be held at the Claresholm United Church, 4803 - 2 Street West, Claresholm on Wednesday, November 19, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Don Lewis officiating. Private Graveside Services will take place at the Claresholm Cemetery on Wednesday morning. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Vivian to the Rehoboth Christian Association, Box 1312, Coaldale, Alberta T1M 1N1. CHOW - Mr. Peter Poon Shek Chow of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on December 7, 1997 at the age of 81 years. He is survived by three sons, Andrew, Benedict and Charles; and two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret; and eight grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at McINNIS &HOLLOWAY'S "Chapel of the Bells" (2720 Centre Street North), today, December 10, 1997 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (610 - 2 Avenue N.E.), on Thursday, December 11, 1997 at 12:00 p.m. with the Rev. John C.K. Mak, Celebrant. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. CHRISTENSEN - Mr. Charles (Charlie) Edward Christensen, beloved husband of Virgie, passed away at the Rosedale Hospice on December 26, 1997. He was born August 10, 1916 on the family homestead located MW17, 24, 21, W4 (south east of Standard) and always felt privileged to be a native Albertan. Besides his loving wife Virgie, Charlie will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Carol and Mark Pollard of Calgary; his son Murray and Sonia of Chancellor; son Lyle and Eileen of Hussar; and son Dale of New York. Grampa will be fondly remembered by his five grandchildren, Melissa and Jessica Pollard, Craig Christensen, and Kisa and Leah Christensen. Charlie will be deeply missed by sisters, Alice and John Toogood of Edmonton, Betty and Bob Louden; and brothers, Harry and Evelyn, and Howard Christensen; as well as special friend Betty Christensen, all of Calgary. In addition to his many nieces and nephews who all hold special memories of their uncle, Dad's multitude of friends will also feel a great loss. SKOL! The family expresses our sincere appreciation to all the caring people at Rosedale Hospice. They made Dad's last days so very comfortable and bearable for us all.
