MORIE - Gunhild. In loving memory of Gunhild Morie, who passed away on October 24, 1997. Gunny will be sadly missed by her husband Marshall; and her loving family: Neil, Jocelyn (Steven Ondre), Michele (Frank Scott), Jeffrey (Concetta Carbonaro), Brenda (John Sisti) and Gregg; as well as her six grandchildren. Gunny's love for music, art, and nature, and her natural vitality for life began at an early age. Among the array of creative talents she displayed, Gunny played second violinist with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra as a young woman. With her boundless energy and enthusiasm, she raised her family of six children to experience a rich and active lifestyle, which they will always treasure. As her family grew, Gunny worked in many volunteer activities, contributing and making a difference in the lives of others, including advocacy with the local Cerebral Palsy Association. She later worked ten years respectively for the Edmonton Jaycees and West 10 Community Social Services. Devoting her talents in later years to painting and exhibiting extensively, she enjoyed her association with the Canadian Federation of Artists, Edmonton Art Club and Laurier Heights Art Club. Gunny and Marshall also enjoyed many years of travelling to various countries around the world. At Gunny's request, a private family Service will be held Tuesday, October 28, at Christ Church. Interment to follow at 1:00 p.m. at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, for those who wish to be present. The family and Reverend John Privett invite all family and friends for a celebration of Gunny's life, to be held at Christ Church Parish Hall at 12116 - 102 Avenue, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 28. Everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society (10/28/1997).

SCHARFF - Ernst Scharff passed away peacefully at the Peter Lougheed Centre on July 16, 1997 at the age of 89 years. Ernst is survived by his wife Marta, daughter Elli married to John, son Jurgen married to Gerry, son Gerd and daughter Hanna, all of Calgary; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Dad, rest in peace. He will be sadly missed. Funeral Services will be held at FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOMES "Garden Chapel", 3220 - 4 Street N.W. on Sunday, July 20, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Geraldine Scharff officiating. Interment to follow in Queen's Park Cemetery. FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOMES "Garden Chapel", Directors. (7/19/1997).

RYAN - In the early morning hours of Sunday, December 28, 1997 Elmus (Bud) W. Ryan passed quietly from this world from within the beloved walls of his longtime home in the Saddle Ridge district of Calgary. Bud was 75 years of age and weary after a lengthy battle with cancer. He is mourned and forever cherished by Muriel his wife of fifty-one years; his children, Todd and Cindy Ryan of Victoria, B.C., Pam and Barry Rinehart of Calgary and Bonnie and Jim Fisher of Whitecourt, AB.; his granddaughter Evann; six grandsons, Kane, Quinn, Jarvis, Riley, Garrett and Liam; his sisters, Rennie, Mary (Bob), Josephine and Vera (Sam); his brother Lloyd (Betty), his extended family and countless friends. Bud was predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Elmus Ryan, his sisters, Violet and Mildred, and brothers, Daniel and Alex. Funeral Services will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Friday, January 2, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Mountain View Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, his family asks that that donations be made in Bud's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society (Second Floor, 215 - 12 Avenue S.E., Calgary AB T2G 1A2). Arrangements entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY and FUNERAL HOME, 17 Avenue S.E. at Garden Road (3km. East of 68 Street S.E.). (12/30/1997).

LITTLE - Mrs. Marie Little (nee Starkell), and formerly Mrs. Lawrence, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on November 23, 1997, at the age of 79 years. Marie was born April 20, 1918, in Arcola, Saskatchewan, but lived for many years in Medicine Hat. She was a graduate of the Nursing Assistant Program at the Calgary General Hospital in 1962. Marie worked for many years at the Calgary General Hospital, Medicine Hat Hospital, Strathmore's Wheatland Lodge and the Claresholm Hospital in her chosen profession. She was a long-standing member of the I.O.D.E. and volunteered many hours at their second-hand store. Marie is the loving mother of a daughter and son-in-law, Elinor and Fred DeMaris of Calgary; two sons and a daughter-in-law, John Raymond and Brenda Lawrence of Edmonton, and Robert Keith Lawrence of Vancouver; sixteen grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Lillian Nolan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Lena Matwick of Brandon, Manitoba. Marie was predeceased by her first husband John Raymond Lawrence in 1961 and her second husband John A. Little in 1974, and six brothers and sisters. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Chapel of the Bells" (2720 Centre Street North), today, November 26, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow at Hillside Cemetery, Medicine Hat. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2G 3Y6. RUTHERFORD - Beatrice (Bea) Ruth Rutherford (nee Kingston), beloved wife of Mr. Harry Rutherford of Calgary, passed away due to cancer at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home on Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at the age of 77 years. Bea was born January 29, 1920 in Toronto, Ontario. Bea, Harry and their two daughters moved to Calgary in 1958. She worked with her husband in their fire fighting equipment business, after which she worked at Woodward's Department Store for fifteen years until her retirement. Bea has resided at Father Lacombe Nursing Home for the past three years, due to Alzheimers. Despite her illness she continued, with her sense of humour, to bring much happiness and laughter to all. Besides her loving husband, Bea is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and Jim Bowden, and Susan Forrest, all of Calgary. Nannie will be greatly missed by her four grandchildren, Cathy and Kellie Bowden, Steven and Kari Forrest, all of Calgary. She is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dave and Margaret Kingston, Tom and Barbara Kingston; and a sister Irene Ryan, all of Toronto; as well as many nieces and nephews. The family wish to express their sincere gratitude to all the staff on the East Wing at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home, and the Sisters of Providence. THOMPSON - Margaret Elizabeth Thompson of Calgary, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Nursing Home on June 30, 1997 at the age of 88 years. Margaret was born and raised in Winnipeg, and attended Normal School there. Margaret married her husband Ernest Samuel in 1929; they relocated to several communities prior to settling in Calgary in the late 1960's where she had since resided. Margaret volunteered for the Canadian Red Cross here in Calgary and received The Distinguished Service Award in 1995, and for many years was an active member of St. James Anglican Church. She had a great appreciation for music, she enjoyed gardening and spent many hours knitting for family and the Red Cross. Her greatest joy were her children and grandchildren. Margaret is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith Martin and his wife Corinne of Pointe Claire, Quebec, John Ernest and his wife Arlene of Calgary; a daughter Diane Elizabeth Howes of Camrose (whose husband was the late Rev. Alan Howes); as well as ten grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Ernest in 1971. Funeral Services will be held at St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church, (1423 - 8 Avenue S.E.), today, July 3, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. with the Rev. Canon Douglas H. Skoyles officiating. Graveside Service to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor's choice. TIGERSTEDT - It is with great sadness that the family of Jean Tigerstedt announces her passing on Saturday, November 1, 1997 at the age of 80 years. Jean is survived by her sisters, Margaret Dempster of Calgary and Isabella Hunt of Edmonton. She was predeceased by her loving husband Albert, in 1989, and by her Father and Mother, and brother Robert. Jean was born in Calgary on July 6, 1917, where she attended Normal School. After graduation, she taught in Oyen before returning to Calgary where she married her sweetheart and joined him in his business, "Tigerstedt Studio". Jean will be sorely missed by all of her friends and family and anyone who had the good fortune to have known her. The family requests no house calls, phone calls nor flowers, please. Memorial Services will be held at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME, 1708 - 16 Avenue N.W. (across from the North Hill Shopping Center) on Wednesday, November 5, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. John W. Lucas of the Immanuel Assembly of God Church officiating. Funeral and Cremation arrangements are in care of HERITAGE FAMILY FUNERAL SERVICES, "Heritage Funeral Home". (11/4/1997).

NEVADA - Mr. Victor Anthony Nevada, beloved husband and best friend of Marilyn, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at the Foothills Hospital on Saturday, July 12, 1997. Victor will be remembered as a loving family man, devoted to his home and dedicated to his business "Specialty Fluid Products Ltd." Victor loved the outdoors, his garden, camping, hunting and fishing. Victor is survived by his loving wife Marilyn Nevada; his loving mother Mikalina Nevada and all of his loving family. He was predeceased by his father Anthony Nevada. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Fish Creek Chapel", (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, July 16, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Unit 57, c/o Alberta Cancer Foundation, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 4N2.
