CHRISTENSEN - Niels, beloved husband of Else, passed away at the George Boyack Nursing Home, on July 8, 1997, at the age of 86 years. Also survived by son Finn (Bev); and daughters, Kirsten Christensen and Rose Dixon (Robert); six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Funeral Services to be conducted by Pastor Jens Nielsen of the Danish Lutheran Church at the Chapel of FIRST MEMORIAL (1635 - 17 Avenue S.W.), on Friday, July 11, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. (7/10/1997).

QUASHNICK - Elsie Quashnick passed away at the Forest Grove Care Centre on October 21, 1997 at the age of 92 years. Elsie is survived by Oscar and Rebecca Quashnick, Ester and Harold Reynolds; three grandchildren, Marvin Quashnick, Marleene Thomson and Karen DeRoo; two great-grandchildren, Robert and Crystal DeRoo. Also survived by three sisters, Emily, Elizabeth and Martha; two brothers, Benny and Gus; as well as nieces and nephews and her many friends. Elsie was predeceased by her loving husband Adolf. The family wishes to extend their many thanks to the nurses and care givers at the Forest Grove Care Centre. Funeral Services will be held at FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOMES "Garden Chapel", 3220 - 4 Street N.W. on Monday, October 27, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Sherman of Centre Street Church officiating. Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor's choice. FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOMES "Garden Chapel", Directors. THOMPSON - Robert Edward (Bob), born May 22, 1955, passed away suddenly June 8, 1997, the result of a vehicle accident. He is survived by two sisters, Mary (Leonard) Kingcott and Anne (James) Segstro; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Harold in 1981 and Jean in 1994. Bob was self-employed in the trucking industry. He had a heart of gold and will always be missed. Funeral Services will be held at FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOMES "Garden Chapel", 3220 - 4 Street N.W. on Wednesday, June 11, 1997 at 12:30 p.m. Interment to follow in Queen's Park Cemetery. If friends so desire memorial tributes may be made directly to the S.P.C.A. (Humane Society), 1323 - 36 Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB. T2E 6T6. FOSTER'S FUNERAL HOMES "Garden Chapel", Directors. TAYLOR - Rita (Rafferty) peacefully on July 18, 1997, cherished wife of Ralph, devoted mother of Stephen, loving grandmother of Nicole and Steve. Rita will be fondly remembered by her sisters, Edna and Phyllis, nieces, nephews and many friends. Funeral Mass was held at the Good Shepherd Church in Surrey, B.C. Interment at Victory Gardens. Donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated. "All who knew her loved her" (7/22/1997).

SMITH - Morris Norman Smith passed away September 14, 1997 at the Rockyview General Hospital, peacefully and in dignity, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness, at the age of 82 years. He was predeceased by his loving wife Ann and nine brothers and sisters. Morris leaves to mourn him, two sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Leonard and Hilda Smith, and Dr. Stanley and Carey Smith. He also leaves six grandchildren, David, Joel, Kevin, Penny, Tracy and Mandy; all of whom will miss him very much. Morris was raised in Calgary as part of a very large extended family, and graduated from Central High School, winning many swimming awards. Morris worked for the Curtis Publishing Company and then went into partnership with his brother Joe, in the Grand Coffee Shop. Following that, he built the Beacon Hotel and managed it for many years, after which he was involved in real estate sales for a few years. Morris was proud of his good name as a man of honour, integrity and honesty. He was an active member of the Alberta Hotel Association, North Hill Kiwanis, the Masonic Order, Beth Tzedec congregation, and B'nai Brith. He worked very hard on behalf of the I.L. Peretz school in its early years. He retired in 1972 and one year later lost his beloved wife, Ann. He was completely devoted to his loving children and grandchildren and derived great pleasure and pride from all of their accomplishments. The family gives special thanks to Mavis Van Sertima who cared for him with great devotion these past few months. He is also survived by his second wife Rita of the Cedars Villa Nursing Home. Funeral Services was held at the Jewish Memorial Chapel (1702 - 17 Avenue S.W.), on Tuesday, September 16, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. Interment followed at the Jewish Cemetery (30 Avenue and Erlton Street S.W.) Arrangements in care of the CHEVRA KADISHA of CALGARY, 1702 - 17 Avenue S.W. . If friends so desire, memorial gifts may be made directly to the Morris Smith Memorial Fund, Calgary Health Trust Office, c/o Rockyview General Hospital, 7007 - 14 Street S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2V 1P9 (9/17/1997).

WILSON - Mrs. Leona Frances Wilson of Sylvan Lake, formerly of Calgary, passed away after a lengthy illness, at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on May 31, 1997, two months shy of her 80th birthday. Leona is survived by her husband Jack "John"; one daughter Dona (Gordon) of Sylvan Lake; three sons, John (Jodi), Rick (Donna) and Alan (Shelly) of Calgary; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also three brothers, Walter, Frank, and Neil Bailey and their families; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Leona was predeceased by her sister Elnora in 1982. Leona's art and community services have given many a lifelong memory. Her spirit will be with us forever. A Service of Remembrance will be held from the Chapel of the Sylvan Lake Funeral Home, 5019 - 47A Avenue, Sylvan Lake, on Monday, June 9, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Bob Wilson officiating. Cremation. As an expression of sympathy, memorial tributes may be made to the Sylvan Lake Extended Care Society. WILLIAMS - John Raymond (Ray) Williams, loving husband and dearest friend of Alice, passed away Monday evening, December 1, 1997, at his home. Ray was born on December 9, 1912 in Nanton, Alberta. He leaves to mourn his loss, six sons, Ron (Bev), Randy (Marilyn), Richard (Anne), Rod (Wanda), all of Calgary; Bruce (Kimmie), Salt Spring Island, Ryan (Kari), Abbotsford; three stepchildren, Ron Thompson (Linda) of Leduc, Ross Thompson and Shelley Thompson (Ed Thomason) of Wolfville, Nova Scotia. As well, ten beautiful grandchildren who will miss his loving, gentle ways, and one great-granddaughter. He was predeceased by his father and mother and his only brother Eric, as well as one stepson Brian. Ray grew up on a ranch west of Nanton, but left the country to work in the Leduc oil field. He worked in the oil industry for thirty-five years plus, until he retired in 1982. Ray will be remembered for his great sense of humour by all who knew him. He was a wonderful father and husband and a faithful, honest worker. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS and HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel", (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), on Friday, December 5, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly tothe Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2G 3Y6. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. J. Meldrum and Home Care Nursing Supervisor Barbara Kearnes and the Home Care Unit for their assistance and support. SOMERVILLE - Mrs. Ruth Marie Somerville of Calgary, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital on Friday, November 28, 1997 at the age of 97 years. Mrs. Somerville was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 30, 1900 and came to Calgary in 1908 with her parents, George and Esther Bock Smith. Mrs. Somerville was educated as an accountant at the Canada Business College and worked for Birks Jewellers. She later left to manage Wiltshire Farms and wasmarried in 1934. She was a past member of the Earl Grey Golf Club and Calgary Local Council of Women. She is survived by her long-time companion and friend, Lita Garbino; a cousin Mrs.Betty Bock; Graeme and Catherine Somerville; Malcolm and Norma Somerville; and Aileen and Donne Smith. Mrs. Somerville was predeceased by her husband George L. Somerville, November 13, 1979 and her sister Esther Lorraine Honens, December 3, 1992. Funeral Serviceswill be held at St. Peter's Anglican Church (903 - 75 Avenue S.W.) on Thursday, December 4, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Giovanni Di Vincenzo officiating. Interment to follow at UnionCemetery. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 1825 Park Road, S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2G 3Y6 or directly to the Alberta Lung Association, 302, 609 - 14 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 2A1. Special thanks to Drs. John Gillespie, James Williams and Dan Botha and the Trauma Support Team and Unit61 Nurses of Rockyview General Hospital.
