RUESGEN -- Mr. Heinz Ruesgen, beloved husband of Mrs. Barbara Ruesgen of Calgary, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Hospital on January 20, 1998 after a brief illness, at the age of 65 years. Heinz was born on July 11, 1932 in Solingen, Germany. He loved music, and as a young man sang in a men's choir and also played the mandolin. He immigrated to Canada in May of 1958. Heinz taught Automotive Technology at William Aberhart and Central Memorial High Schools for eighteen years. Besides his loving wife, Heinz is survived by a daughter Connie Ruesgen of Abbotsford, B.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Roland and Marie Ruesgen of Kelowna, B.C. He was the proud "Opa" of two grandchildren, Jesse and Megan. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Rolf and Heidi Ruesgen of Germany. Heinz was predeceased by his parents, Erich and Herta. Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Crowfoot Chapel" (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Saturday, January 24, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Salvation Army, 1402 - 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, Alberta T2N 1B9. SMITH -- Douglas J. Smith of Calgary, passed away on Friday, January 16, 1998 at the age of 70 years, after a lengthy illness. He is survived by his best friend and companion, Janet Stewart; as well as five children in Kingston, Ontario. Gone but not forgotten by all his friends and family. A Funeral Service will be held at Wesley United Church (1307 - 7 Street S.W.), Friday, January 23, 1998 at 10:30 a.m., with Rev. Tom Melvin officiating. Interment to follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. TAYLOR -- Walter Taylor of Calgary, formerly of Winnipeg, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 1998 at the Father Lacombe Nursing Home at the age of 87 years. He will be greatly missed by his family, daughters, Louise (Joe) Kondics of Calgary, and Wilma (Duncan) Sisk of Edmonton; grandchildren, Stephen, David (Sharon), Marie, Ian (Jennifer), Anne (Daniel), Luke, Joel, Jessica and Patrick; as well as two dear great-granddaughters, Kayla and Torri. Walter is also survived by his brother Stewart of Port Alberni, B.C., and other family members. He was predeceased by his loving wife Jemma in 1980, his parents, and his brothers, Fred and Stanley. He will be fondly remembered by his loving family and many friends. van CUYK -- Aloysius (Wiet) van Cuyk, beloved husband of Sylvia, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on January 22, 1998 at the age of 72 years. Wiet immigrated to Canada in 1954. For many years he worked with Pockar Brothers Masonry until his retirement. Wiet was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he ushered Sunday Masses for many years. He enjoyed listening to jazz music as well as playing cards. Besides his loving wife Sylvia, Wiet is survived by two daughters, Mary and Ray Aubie and Francy and Jamie Woodman; as well as Sylvia's children, Trish and Gary Novak, Kevin Petersen, and Tim and Jacqueline Petersen of Peachland, British Columbia; and six grandchildren, Justin, Joseph, Carly, Andrew, Riley and Kyle. He is also survived by his sister Coise van Cuyk and her family of Tilburg, Holland. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends both here and in Holland. Wiet was predeceased by his first wife Johanna in 1972. WAIBOER -- Rens, aged 52 years, of Calgary, passed away January 20, 1998. He is the beloved father and father-in-law of Jake and Jackie Waiboer, Pincher Creek, AB, and Hans Waiboer, Drumheller, AB. He is also survived by a grandson Zac Waiboer, Pincher Creek; mother Cory Waiboer, a brother Hans, and a sister Anneleen, all in Holland. He was predeceased by his father Jacob. Born in Holland, he came to Canada in 1968 to Claresholm, later moving to Calgary. Services will be held at LEYDEN'S "Chapel of Remembrance" (17 Avenue and 2 Street S.W.), on Saturday, January 24, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Salvation Army (1402 - 8 Avenue N.W., T2N 1B9). WARD -- Frederick Thomas (Fred) Ward passed away at the Agape Manor Hospice on Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at the age of 71 years. He is survived by his wife Phyl; children, Marianne (John) Mundy and their children, Joel, Matthew and Cailin; Bob (Lynn) Ward and their daughter Suzie; Colleen (Rodger) Irvin and their children, Brittney, Taylor and Chandler; and their mother Marion Black. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Dawn Wigmore and Rick (Louise) Mitchell and their children, Andrea and Megan; and his loving sister Cathy Heisen. Fred was a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and the Al Azhar Shrine Mounted Patrol. His last working years were spent at Universal Mercury-Lincoln. Fred was a kind and caring person who loved the mountains, fishing and his jazz music. His happiest moments were with his family and grandchildren. He will be missed by everyone whose lives he touched. Memorial Services will be held at CALGARY CREMATORIUM CHAPEL, 3219 - 4 Street N.W. (within the valley of Queen's Park Cemetery), on Friday, January 23 at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Bob Glasgow officiating. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. A.W. WEIGUM -- Bertha Alvina Weigum (nee Schroth) of Calgary, passed away at the Sarcee Auxiliary Hospital on January 20, 1998 at the age of 77 years. Bertha was born February 10, 1920 in Trochu, Alberta and later married Art Weigum in 1943. Bertha is survived by two daughters and two sons-in-law, Beverley and Lyle Taylor of Calgary, Linda and Martin Edgington of Victoria, B.C.; four grandchildren, Brad Taylor of Terrace, B.C., Rod (Melinda) Taylor of Didsbury, AB, Ashley and Cassandra Edgington of Victoria; two great-grandchildren, Amanda and Jennifer Taylor of Didsbury. Bertha is also survived by a brother George Schroth of Calgary; a sister Florence Bauer of Three Hills, AB; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Art in 1974, two brothers, William and Emil Schroth, and a grandson Brandon Edgington. YAHOLNITSKY -- Helen Yaholnitsky (nee Kereluk) of Calgary, passed away at Carewest Glenmore Park on Wednesday, January 21, 1998 after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 75 years. She is survived by her son Greg (Myrna) Yaholnitsky of Preeceville, SK; and daughter Paulette (Cris) Pynenburg; as well as five sisters and three brothers. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Mary, and a brother Ed. YOUNG -- Lillian Young passed away in her sleep on January 21, 1998 at the Bow View Manor. Lillian was born at Swalwell, AB, August 17, 1922. She is survived by a sister Isobelle Johnston of Didsbury; and brothers, Ivan of Burnaby, B.C., and Raymond of Calgary. She was for years active at the Killarney Baptist Church where she was involved with girls clubs and ladies gatherings. Lillian served with the Canadian Women's Army Corps during the war. She was employed at the U. of A. in Edmonton before she transferred to the U. of C., Calgary Library. She retired in October 1981. While living in the Parkdale area of Calgary, she took great interest in the natural parks, birds, flowers and plants. A Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel of MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, January 24, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to S.T.A.R.S. ARNOLD -- Christopher (Chris) Henry Arnold of Calgary, AB, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, January 22, 1998. Beloved husband of Lily for fifty-five years. Also survived by his children, Carole (Jim) Bierwirth, Rodney (Jennifer), Judy (John) MacDonald, Chris (Luane); five grandchildren, Brent, Justin, Lindsay, Rob, Laura; and one great-grandchild Natalie; two sisters, Kay Buffam, Rose Marie Dann; as well as numerous relatives and friends. BRINTON -- Frederica Marie "Freda" Brinton, beloved wife of Travis, passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 1998 at the age of 83 years. She is the loving mother of Bill Fulkerth (Flo), Donald Fulkerth (Judy), Edna Bielech, Doris Heintz (Roger) and Bill Sinclair (Marilynn). Also survived by twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; brothers, Riley Moon (Millie), Frank Moon (Esther) and Royden Moon (Sheila); sisters, Helen McGaffin (Bob), Bertha Nelson and Wynn Wallin (Herman); a sister-in-law Betty Moon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother Bill Moon, and by two grandchildren, Karen Adele Bielech in 1968 and Edward Dale Bielech in 1983. Freda wished to say goodbye and hoped to be remembered by her friends. BROWN -- Thomas (Tom) Brown of Hussar, Alberta, passed away at his home on Thursday, January 22, 1998, aged 75 years. He is survived by his loving wife Ruby; his children, Sharon (Bruce) Burton of Chestermere, Brenda (Bryan) Hager of Hussar, and Tommy Brown of Calgary; grandchildren, Kathy Squire, Michelle Brown, Craig Burton, Michael Hager and Brianne Hager; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Christopher, and Mikayla. Tom was predeceased by his parents, Andy and Rose, and brothers, Cam and Don. A private family Memorial Service will be held. DASH -- Stanley (Stan) Robert Dash, beloved husband of Marlene, passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 22, 1998 at the age of 60 years. Stan was born November 25, 1937 in Calgary and during his life traveled and worked throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan. He spent several years as a construction contractor in Lethbridge before finally settling back in Calgary. Stan loved to escape to the outdoors, camping and fishing with his wife and family. He enjoyed the simple treasures of life. Stan is survived by his wife Marlene; a son and daughter-in-law, Kelly and Agata of Calgary; and a daughter Cheryl of Lethbridge. He is also survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Terry Patterson of Winnipeg and Georgina and Ed Loucks of Trehearne, Manitoba. Stan was predeceased by his parents, Stan and Helen, and a brother-in-law Stu Patterson.
