After a courageous battle with cancer, Brian passed away peacefully on Saturday morning August 18th. He leaves behind his daughter Charlene, his partner Marlene, sister Effie (Jake), Louise and Shirley, Charlene's sisters, Corina, Christa (Elijah) and their mother Leanne. Marlene's children Ashley (Sarah) & Brent (Erin), other family and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Parksville Legion on Saturday, August 25 at 12:00 Noon.

On the morning of August 17, Buster passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Honoured to have had him in their lives are Dorothy, his wife of 55 years; his children, Sandra Somerville (Ed), Ric Pearce (Christine), Christina Smith (Dan) along with his grandchildren, Dana (Kyle), Ryan, Paul, Janelle, Nadine, Meghan, Carmen (Dylan), Evan, Challayne (Rob), Braden, his great-grandson, Jalen, and his three great-grand puppies. He also leaves behind his sisters, Joanne (Laverne) and Margie (Bob), his cousin Bob (Heather) and their children, and his brother-in-law Russell and family.
Born in Calgary and raised in Vancouver, Buster married Dorothy in 1952 and raised their family in Richmond. He was an avid football fan and coach in his community, and spent his working life on fishing boats and at Agency Press as a lithographic colour technician. After retiring, Buster and Dorothy traveled throughout North America in their motor home, eventually settling in Parksville.
His mischievous grin and sense of humour made him popular with young people, many of whom he embraced as family. Buster will be remembered as a loving man who occasionally prevaricated the truth. His spirit and devotion to family will remain with us forever.
There will be a celebration of Buster's life at 2pm on Saturday, August 25th, at Fairwinds Golf Club in Nanoose Bay.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to B.C. Children's Hospital, pediatrics oncology ward.
SCHAFFNER, Otto Friday, 09 Nov 2007

passed away after a lengthy illness surrounded by his family.
Born in Nurnberg, Germany the fifth of six siblings.
Otto is survived by his wife Erica children Pearl (Alan) Peter (Dana) Otto Jr. (Karin), grandchildren Justin, Shaun and Addison.
Otto had a great passion for painting, enjoyed lake fishing, and in younger years horseback riding but most of all his family.
He will be dearly missed
Service was held on Nov. 15th, 2007.

ROSS, Alice Mary (Dolly) Thursday, 08 Nov 2007

Alice was pre-deceased by her father, George, her mother Ann, her brothers James and Leslie, her sisters Vernice and Margaret and her nephew Stewart. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren and her dear friend Peter. She worked for many years as a telegraph operator for CPR and after that as a dental receptionist for Dr. McShane. She was active in the Nanaimo Business and Professional Women’s Club in the earlier days of her working career. With the help of her good friend Elaine Duncan and the other members of the Nanoose Bay Weavers’ Guild she became an accomplished weaver.
She embraced technology and volunteered with the Parksville / Qualicum MacIntosh Users Group. She loved to travel making trips to Russia, China, Japan, South-East Asia, the British Isles, Europe and Cuba. She was the last of her generation of the Rosstown Rosses. She will be missed.

Andy Andersen passed away suddenly but peacefully on November 8, 2007 with his family at his side.
Andy leaves behind to honor his memory, his loving wife of 51 years Ulla, his son Jim and wife Julie, his daughter Irene and husband Mike, grandchildren Nicole, Cheryl, Laura, Ross, 6 step grandchildren, life time friend Tillie Dillen, niece Elly and husband Allan, and his family in Denmark.
Andy will be remembered for his many years of service to the community, including 31 years as an active member of the Parksville Lions Club, a long term member of the Parksville Legion, as well as service on the Parksville City Council and the Regional District of Nanaimo.
Andy valued friendship, integrity and lived a courageous life. He touched the lives of everyone he met.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff on the first floor of the Nanaimo Hospital for their care and understanding during this trying time.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 17, 2007 at Yates Funeral Home on Allsbrook Road in Parksville, at 1 pm, with Reverend Van Holst officiating.
MASON, Marjorie Sybil (nee Keeley) Wednesday, 07 Nov 2007

Born September 30, 1925, Wallasey, Cheshire, England. passed away November 7, 2007, at Eagle Park Health Care Facility, Qualicum Beach.
Mom passed away comfortably after a valiant struggle with dementia. Mom was pre-deceased by her loving husband of 51 years, William Allan Mason on January 10, 1999; her son Richard Mason on February 28, 2007; her parents Caroline and Edward Keeley; her sisters Norah, Evelyn and Pat; her brothers Arnold, Edward and Norman; her devoted, loving friend Mickey Kool. Marjorie is survived by her loving family: Janet (Dennis) Touhey, Qualicum Beach; Carol (Jim) Carter, La Jolla, California; Wendy (Don) Wilcox, Coquitlam; Keith Mason, Australia; Annie Mason (North Vancouver); 14 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; family members in England and Vancouver; friends on the Sunshine Coast.
Marjorie had a wonderful life. She survived WWII, serving in the British Army as a war secretary, living through the bombings in Liverpool, marrying Allan in 1947, Marjorie worked hard to raise five children. In England Mom worked in Cadbury’s Chocolate factory. In Vancouver for Burrard Dry Docks and Woodwards in the office. The family emigrated to Quebec in 1967, and moved to Vancouver in 1972.
Mom and Dad retired to the Sunshine Coast in 1980, where they enjoyed the beaches and friends they made. They had many happy trips to Hawaii, Europe and Australia. They loved the sunshine.
Marjorie came to live in Qualicum Beach in 2001 to be closer to her daughter Janet and family. She really enjoyed Qualicum especially the beautiful beaches and loved living in her cute house in the village.
A special thank you to her wonderful compassionate care givers, from Parksville Home Support, especially Lynda Williams, and to Bonnie Lapostie (her private caregiver). They all made her life much more enjoyable and fun. To the angel caregivers that work effortlessly with great compassion at Eagle Park, a heartfelt thank you. To Hospice for their caring in her last few days. To Dr. McIntyre for also caring.
May we all remember mom’s sense of humour and her love of chocolate and flowers ... rest in peace, Mom, and keep the party going in Heaven.
A celebration of Marjorie’s Life will be held in Coquitlam on December 23, 2007.

Born May 17, 1937. Entered into rest peacefully November 7, 2007 at the age of 70 years.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years and constant companion, Pat Hanson; children Mariane, Daniel (Penny), Patricia (Barry); stepsons William, Terrance, Lorne and Roderick; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; siblings Richard (Rose), as well as many loved aunts, uncles, friends and dance partners. He is pre-deceased by his brother Otto.
Harvey was a long time member of CHRCO, long time rural delivery driver for the News.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Parksville Baptist Church on Pym Street, Saturday, November 17, at 2:00 pm. With celebration of life to follow at the Frontiersman Pub from 4-6pm.

COSTER VAN VO0RHOUT, Adriaan Willem (Do) of Parksville, B.C., passed away on November 7, 2007 at the age of 88 years.
Adriaan was born in Nijmegan, The Netherland on Feb. 3, 1919. After surviving five years of occupation he joined the Dutch army and was later sent to Indonesia where he served as an officer for four years.
In 1953 Adriaan emigrated to London, Ontario but soon joined the rest of his family in Edmonton, Alberta where he met and married his wife Erma of 50 years. They later had one daughter, Barbara Jean who pre-deceased in July 1982.
At age 41, Adriaan attended the University of Alberta to become a school teacher.
In 1980 the family moved to Victoria B.C. and then finally to Parksville B.C. where Adriaan enjoyed his retirement and many hobbies. On June 28, 2007 Adriaan and Erma celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary with many friends and family.
Memorial services will be held Nov. 19th, 2007 at 1:00 pm at Yates Funeral Services, Parksville, B.C.
