Stefiuk, Eugene Lubimir Monday, 11 Feb 2008

Eugene Lubimir Stefiuk was born on December 2nd, 1936 in Canora, Saskatchewan and died on February 11th, 2008 in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 71 years. He is survived by his brother, Boris (Duane) Stefiuk of Nelson, B.C.; four nephews, Byron, Michael, Christopher and Derrick and their families; and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Matt Stefiuk on March 21st, 1982 and his mother, Pearl Stefiuk on March 30th, 1998.
A Prayer Service will be held at The Assumption Of St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Wednesday, February 13th, 2008 at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Service will be held at The Assumption Of St. Mary Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Thursday, February 14th, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. with The Very Reverend Archpriest Isadore Woronchak officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy, those wishing to do so may send donations in memory of Eugene Stefiuk to the Canadian Diabetic Association, P.O. Box 1301, Vernon, B.C. V1T 6N6.

Smith, Myrtle Marie Friday, 08 Feb 2008

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Myrtle Marie Smith a resident of the Hullcar and Armstrong areas since 1950. Myrtle was born September 18, 1913 in Killam, Alberta. On Friday, February 8, she left this life to meet her Lord and be with Him forever.
She is survived by daughters Carol Hoover (Lorne) & family and Janice Evans (Ched) & family; as well as her special second family Shawn L’Henaff & family, Cheryl West (Michael) & family and Darryl Smith & family. Myrtle was pre-deceased by her husband Drell, son Wayne, grandson Michael as well as all her siblings.
Myrtle will be remembered for a many lives she touched. She taught school in Armstrong for some 25 years. During this time she was an avid supporter of the Enderby and Armstrong Baptist Churches, the I.P.E. and the Armstrong Curling Club. Following retirement, she volunteered for many years at Armstrong Community Services – be it Meals on Wheels, driving seniors to appointments as well as assisting with Citizens on Patrol.
Mom will be remembered for her love and dedication to family. Family get-togethers were always a highlight for her. She will also be remembered by the many whose friendship she so cherished. In 2001, Myrtle moved to Canterbury Court in Vernon where she continued an active lifestyle making many new friends, developing a library and enjoying the numerous varied activities and events.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, Armstrong. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Armstrong Baptist Church Building Fund or the Gideon’s Bible Society. Arrangements in the care of Personal Alternative Funeral Services, Armstrong.

Ralph Ernest Saluski died at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Friday, February 8, 2008 after a brief illness. Ralph was born on September 6, 1949 in Regina, Saskatchewan. He lived on the family farm near Francis, Saskatchewan until he was sixteen when he and his parents moved to Armstrong. Ralph and his dad ran a dairy and hay farm on Thomas Hayes Road until his dad passed away in 1972. After that Ralph worked for a number of years at various places in Alberta before moving to Vernon in 2002. Ralph’s passion was snowmobiling at Hunter’s Range. Horseback riding was also a favourite pastime. Predeceased by his parents Ernest & Mary Saluski, Ralph is survived by two sisters Lydia Ortman and Margaret Kalin both of Armstrong; four nephews, two nieces and numerous other extended family members. Prayers will be recited at 5:00 p.m., Friday, February 15 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Armstrong. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 16 with Father Leo Boyd, O.M.I. celebrant. Interment to follow in Armstrong Spallumcheen Cemetery. Arrangements in the care of Personal Alternative Funeral Services, Armstrong. 546-7237.

We would like to announce the passing of Arnold Ketelaars … now gone fishing with God. After 85 years of a wonderful life and now joining his wife and daughter, Mary, he is at peace. Mom and Dad born in Holland and immigrated to Coldstream in 1951, found countless challenges but held strong and enjoyed life to the fullest.
Their honesty, integrity, loving and hardworking values will live on forever. He leaves behind his son, Joe (Lynn) Ketelaars, Prince George; daughters: Johanne (Bob) Haley, Stony Plain; Betty (Rick) Gallant, Coldstream; Theresia (Rob) McColl, Victoria; Franny (Brian) Coleridge, Armstrong; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at his request on Thursday, February 14, 10:00 AM, at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, 10102 Middleton Drive, Vernon, The Rev. Father Martin Peyton, Celebrant. Tea following at Coldstream Women’s Institute Hall on Kal Lake Road. It is with deep sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, father, husband, brother and friend, Randy Dortman. Randy leaves behind his loving wife and companion Nina Honeyman, children Brenden, Bradley and Brooklyn. He is also survived by his mother Caroline of Vernon, brother Ken (Lynda) Dortman of Kamloops, sisters, Adele Dove of Calgary and Karen Netherland of McComb, Mississippi, nieces, Deena, Leanne, Cathy, Jeanette, Tammy, Ashley and Rachel, nephew Cory and numerous aunts and uncles. Randy was pre-deceased by his father, John Dortman. Randy enjoyed the freedom of the outdoors. Whether it be driving his cars, riding motorcycles with his wife and friends during the summer months or snowmobiling with his buddies in the winter months, Randy was an avid lover of motor sports. Randy was friends to all who knew him and was always there for support or to lend a helping hand. Randy was committed to his job with Pioneer Electronics Of Canada, servicing locations throughout Western Canada. He loved his job and most satisfying to him was meeting people and providing service, sales and consulting to his clients – many who became his close friends. His sudden passing from this earth was in the mountains enjoying the sport he loved so much. Randy was an avid supporter of the Harley Davidson Owners Group as well as an active member of the Lumby Snowmobile Association. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Society, or the Lumby Snowmobile Association. On behalf of Terry Batchelor and family, it is with hurting hearts but with a great desire to celebrate, that we announce the passing of his sweetheart for more than 58 years, Ellen May Batchelor, (Billie), on into the arms of her Saviour Jesus, Thursday morning, February 7, 2008. Her love and trust in Jesus was her constant strength right to the end of her life here, but the promise given to her by Him that she is now living and resting in His peace, and that one day will be resurrected in a body that will not fail her again, is her hope. She was surrounded by her loving husband, all seven of her children; Deb (Joe), Jim (Julia), Errol (Brenda), Heather (Tom), Clint (Sharon), Terryll (Shane), Lon, and two of her sisters, Mary and Muriel. She leaves behind 16 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. We miss her all ready but we know we will all see her again very soon. We would like to thank the staff at the Kelowna General Hospital for their excellent care and would ask that in lieu of flowers that you make a donation to the BC Lung Association. A short, informal service followed by a dessert social will be held at the Kelowna Christian Center on Monday, February 11th at 2:00PM. Mom loved to laugh and it would honour her if you came prepared to celebrate her life with laughter. Thank you to all who prayed for her and our family during this stressful time. We have been, and are, truly blessed.

Julia Katherine PEARSON BARNARD was born on January 1st, 1914 in Calgary, Alberta, one of nine children born to Tadeusz & Anna (Yedlinske) Dul and was called Home to be with her Lord on February 7th, 2008 at the age of 94 years. She spent most of her young years on her parents’ farm in Alberta. Julia moved to Vernon in the 1930s and married John Pearson in 1937 and together they farmed in the BX District. Julia was a hard working woman both on the farm and at MacDonald’s Packing House. She also was a cook at the Ellison Hotel and the Army Camp. In 1968 her husband died and in 1972 she married Dick Barnard.
Julia will be lovingly remembered by her son, Ronald (Gail) Pearson of Vernon, B.C.; two grandchildren, Michael (Koralee) Pearson of North Surrey, B.C. and Lori (Tim) Opper of Aldergrove, B.C.; three great-grandchildren, Emily Pearson, Amanda Pearson and MacIntyre Opper; two sisters, Elvina (Dick) Pyle of Friday Harbor, Washington and Josephine Calverley of Mission, B.C.; a very close niece, Joan (Bill) Hartwig of Kelowna, B.C; numerous other nieces and nephews; her stepsons, Tony, Bruce and Derrick Barnard and their families.
Julia enjoyed gardening, traveling, camping, fishing, dancing, bowling and bingo for many years. She was a 50 year member of the Ladies Auxiliary, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #25 and a 70 year member of the C.W.L. of St. James Parish.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. James Catholic Church on Wednesday, February 13th, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Father Martin Peyton celebrant. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Julia to the charity of their choice.
The family wishes to thank all of the Supervisors and Care Staff on the 3rd Floor, Gateby Residence for the wonderful, loving care given to Julia during the past few years.

Norm died suddenly and unexpectedly at Vernon, B.C. Where he had lived the last few years. A long time resident of the Blaeberry, he was a logger, a hay farmer and an outdoorsman. Dearly loved and missed by his daughter, Joyce Green (Jim Johnson), his beloved granddaughter, Sarah Green, his ex-wife and friend, Shirley Green, his long time special friend, Ann Langer, his brother Bev (Isobel) and by many friends. Norm was pre-deceased by his two sons, David 1963-1986, and Bob 1959-1999. Arrangements by Bowers Funeral Service. Memorial service will be held on February 16, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at Bowers Funeral Chapel, Golden.

His mother Augusta, sisters Sylvia (Garry), Beatrice, brother Raymond and his very dear long-time friend Arnold. Lots of extended family and special friends he made trucking through his life. He loved the open road and working on his farm. He has tedded his last field and parked that new Pete for the last time.
