On Wednesday, September 11, 2008 Earl Marshall Smith, passed away suddenly at the age of 85 years.
Born July 20, 1923 in Moosomin, Saskatchewan to Mabel and Harvey Smith. In his teens Earl moved with his family to Mt. Lehman. Earl joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in July 1943 and was discharged in June 1946. He married Ruth Irene Fraser in 1949 and they had three daughters.
In his lifetime he started work as a logger then worked for Matsqui Municipality and Scotland Adamson Paving. Later he owned and operated bulldozers that became his passion. As a hobby he spent many years as a vendor at various flea markets in the valley.
Earl enjoyed playing cards, dancing, his grandchildren and many family pets. He loved Hockey Night in Canada.
Survived by Ruth, his three daughters, Faye Appleton (Peter), Judy Peterson and Sandy Letkeman (Ken); five grandchildren, Kathy Eastgate (Jim), Steven Appleton, Garrett Peterson (Jen), Brad Letkeman (Jen) and Greg Letkeman; four great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Trevor, Scott and Doug. Earl is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Draney and Freida Bates. He was sadly pre-deceased by his three brothers, Doug, Keith (Bud) and his twin brother Lloyd and his mother Mabel Paterson. Earl will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 16th at The Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 26607 Fraser Highway, Aldergrove with the Reverend Ken Dean officiating.
Interment was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 16th at Hazelwood Cemetery, 34070 Hazelwood Avenue, Abbotsford.
He has left a lasting legacy through his children and grandchildren of what it is to be a hard working, honest, loyal and honourable man.

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Carlyn (Carol) Beth Kerrie at the age of 61 years old. Carol was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia and lived in Abbotsford, B.C. Left behind to mourn her loss and cherish her memory is her husband and best friend of sixteen years, David P. Kerrie, three children, David, Debbie and Raymond, along with many other relatives and dear friends. Carol touched the lives of many people with her acts of kindness and she will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. Her ashes will be scattered at a private location and there will be no service as per her wishes.

Lorraine and her sister Laverne were raised in Port Simpson, north of Prince Rupert, by their grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Sankey whom they called "mom" and "dad", Lorraine was sent down to Abbotsford to attend grade eight and subsequently graduated from Abbotsford Senior Secondary. She lived with Jim and Doreen Scantland who remained life-long friends.
Her sudden passing on September 11th, 2008 leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter; Michelle, sister; Laverne of Enderby, father; Eric Green of Port Simpson. She was pre-deceased by her mother Betty Adams of Nisga nation. The funeral was held in Prince Rupert.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of (Ivadelle), Dell Allan, in Parksville, on October, 4, 2007. Mom had just begun a new phase in her life in a new home with many exciting plans. We are so very thankful and blessed to have been able to share her life, her love and her spirit. She will be very much missed.
Mom is pre-deceased by her greatest love, her husband Harvey, and will be remembered with love by her children, Nancy (Frans), Bob (Liena), Jane (Mike), Barbara (Brian), her grandchildren, Louise (Ron), Jean-Luc, Kate, Emma, Megan, Mary-Louise, Jen (Tom) and Bryan, her great-grandson Keegan, her sister Joyce and family, and her great many friends in Canada and Holland.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be welcome.
A celebration of her life will be held October, 26, 2007, from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm at the Craig Bay Beach Club at the Craig Bay Estates in Parksville.

On the evening of October 3rd, Alice Vass passed away peacefully in the Palliative Care Unit of Nanaimo General Hospital, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Toronto, Ontario and resident of Parksville, British Columbia for 9 years. Predeceased by her husband Frederick, survived by sons Gary (wife Linda) of Parksville and Bruce (wife Doris) of Ontario. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Michelle, Dallas, Frederick, Wyatt, Luke, David and April. As well as 2 great-grandchildren, Arrianne and Noah (Ontario).
Alice was a member of the Newcomers and Coronation Street Clubs. Her many wonderful supportive friends will miss her lively spirit, wit, and friendship. Alice loved all of you!
A special thank you to Ada and Al for helping with rides to the hospital and to Klara for meals and support. Also, a thank you to all of her friends for food, flowers, and tons of good wishes and support. Thank you to all of the Palliative Care Unit staff at Nanaimo General Hospital and Dr. Larry McClure for the excellent care given. It was Alice’s request that no service be held in her memory.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gerald Ewing on October 2, 2007 in Nanoose Bay, British Columbia. He was pre-deceased by a daughter Gillian; and leaves to mourn his wife Violet; son Christopher; daughter Helen; and many family members and friends. Dr. Ewing was born in Kirkburton, Yorkshire, attended Leyton Park School in Berkshire and graduated in Medicine from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland in 1955. Following graduation he served for four years in the Royal Air Force. After further studies, he obtained Fellowships of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada and Edinburgh.
Immigrating to Canada with his family in 1964, he continued his professional career in the specialties of Cardiology and Internal Medicine, established the Renal Dialysis Unit, and was the Head of Medicine at the Regina General Hospital. Later he became the Medical Director of the Allan Blair Cancer Centre in Regina and was a Professor of Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan. He was influential in the building of the new Cancer Centre in Regina in 1966 where a medical library was named after him in recognition of his commitment and dedication to Cancer Control in Saskatchewan.
In his retirement he enjoyed the peacefulness and beauty of Vancouver Island where he enjoyed gardening, boating, and playing bridge. He was involved with Probus Club, Elder College and other community organizations.
At his request there will be no service. No flowers please.

Jessie we are going to miss you!
On October 1st, Jessie Hunter passed away peacefully at the age of 85. Jessie had a long and full life, and was known and loved by many as a mother, teacher and friend. Feisty, friendly, cheeky and a bit of rebel, she had a special knack for befriending all she met, and leaving smiles in her wake.
A celebration in memory of Jessie will be held on Saturday, October 6th.

Born April 9th, 1947 in Saint Boniface, Manitoba. passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 30th, 2007, at the age of 60.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Paul Desmarais of 41 years of marriage, She was the daughter of Helene Trudeau of Iles Des Chenes, Manitoba. She is survived by children Mona, Lise, Denis, Monique & Natalie;loving grandmother of grandchildren Dion, Tyler, Nathan, Renee, Jolenne, Breanna, Brayden, Zoe, Adam and Makayla; siblings Paulette and Lucille, as well as many family and friends from Manitoba, Salmon Arm and Qualicum Beach.
Diane was active as a volunteer, member of CWL, and Song Birds.
Celebration of Life will be held at The Church of the Ascension, 887 Wembley Rd., Parksville, B.C., on Wednesday, October 3rd @ 10:30 a.m.
