Laura A. Moniz, born Aug. 23, 1932 in Porto Formoso, Sao Miguel (Azores) Portugal, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2007 in Vancouver, B.C. at the age of 75 surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her husband, of 51 years, Ernesto F. Moniz and lovingly remembered by her three sons and two daughters, daughters-in-laws and sons-in-law; Anthony (Liz), Ernest (Una), Carlos (Gabriella), Laura (Joe) and Grace (Mike) her grandchildren: Elizabeth, David, Eva, Ian, Justin, Ezra, Nicholas, Anna, Anthony, Gavin, Julia, Carolynn, Jacqueline and Derek, siblings, cousins and her close friends that made up Laura‘s large extended family.
Laura will be remembered for her love of education and learning.
She constantly challenged her children to realize their dreams, a legacy that will not be forgotten. Laura's boundless energy, compassion and caring was a gift she shared with her many children and adults that she looked after in a lifetime of dedicated care-giving. The greatest gift Laura left was her never-ending love for her sons and daughters and her belief that they could be anything they wanted to be.
We love you Mom and will miss you!
The Moniz family wishes to thank the caring, dedicated nursing staff of the 3 Links Care Centre (Rebekah Place), VGH Palliative Care Ward, who took care of our Mom in her time of need.
Prayers will be said 7:30 pm Thursday, November 22, 2007. at Our Lady of Fatima Parish 1423 E. 13th Ave. Vancouver, B.C. where Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am Friday, November 23, Rev. Antonio Deangelis is the celebrant. Entombment to follow at Ocean View Burial Park.

It is with great sadness that we announce Mary's passing. Mary was a cancer survivor who passed away unexpectedly following complications from a stroke in February. She will be remembered as a courageous and passionate wife, mother, grandma, great-grandma and friend to many. Mary will be forever missed by her loving husband of 57 years Ted Wilson; her daughter Cherie Turner; grandchildren Calvin (Tara) Turner, Michelle (Sean) Turner, Andrea (Pete) Lyon and Natalie (Mark) Santacatterina; great-grandchildren Calum, Hannah, Colton, Camryn and Raven; brother-in-law Norm (Ellie) Wilson; the Wilson clan; many nieces and nephews; her swimming ladies; Paulette, Loretta and the gang from SMH; neighbours old and new; and her special friends from Menno Hospital. The family is eternally grateful for the wonderful care and support Mary received while at the Menno Hospital. There will be no service by request. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mary's memory to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the BC Cancer Foundation.
You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived.

WHITTLE, Barbara Jean passed away September 13, 2008 at 2:10 a.m. at the Christine Morrison Hospice in Mission. Jean was born in England on September 28, 1941, moving to Canada in 1974, She was a member of Cascade Community Church and active in community work. She is survived by her loving husband John, sons Paul and Allen, grandchildren Christopher, Desiree, Richard, Alyson, Chelsey and great grandson Blaze. The family would like to thank the staff at Christine Morrison Hospice for all their kind and compassionate care. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cascade Community Church, 35190 Delair Rd. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Salvation Army.

With great sadness, we announce the unexpected passing of William Flores on September 13, 2008. Husband, father, son, brother, and friend to all. He will be sadly missed. His memory will live on through his wife Elisa, his children Wendy, John, Alex, Veronica, Clarisa, Ashly, Barbara, and Bethsabe, his parents, brothers and sisters, uncles and aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces, and friends.

Roy was born near Scotsguard, Saskatchewan on May 09, 1921, and passed away at Abbotsford Regional Hospital on September 11, 2008 at the age of 87. He was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Hannah Wilkinson; three brothers, John, Stanley and Lorne; niece Lynda Parker and nephew Donald Wilkinson. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jean; one son, Gerald (Vera) and one daughter, Sheila Flavelle (Aird ). He is also survived by three grandchildren, Dallas Wilkinson, Celeste Park (Andy), and McElroy Flavelle (Rachel); his sister-in-law Hilda Wilkinson; several nieces and nephews as well as many cousins.
Roy moved from Scotsguard to Neville, Saskatchewan with his family in 1932. In 1942 he joined the Canadian Army, Royal Canadian Army Service Corps, 69th Tank Transport Company and went overseas that same year. He served in England and Continental Europe until returning to Canada in 1946.
While overseas he married Jean Fraser of Pambrun, Saskatchewan, in London, England. Upon returning to Canada they lived in Vanguard for one year while he worked in the R. M. Whiska Creek with his Dad who was the secretary treasurer there. Their son, Gerald, was born in 1946. In 1947 they bought Jean's Dad's store in Pambrun and moved there. Their daughter, Sheila, was born in 1949 while they lived in Pambrun. They remained there until 1964 when they moved to Calgary, where Roy worked in real estate and insurance. They retired and moved to Ocean Park and later to Abbotsford, B.C.
A Memorial Service will be held at Gladwin Heights United Church, 3474 Gladwin Road, Abbotsford, B.C. on Saturday, September 20th at 2:00 P.M. If desired, in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice. We would like to thank Dr. Winner and the Paramedics and hospital staff at Abbotsford Regional Hospital for their excellent care.

On Wednesday, September 11, 2008 Earl Marshall Smith, passed away suddenly at the age of 85 years.
Born July 20, 1923 in Moosomin, Saskatchewan to Mabel and Harvey Smith. In his teens Earl moved with his family to Mt. Lehman. Earl joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in July 1943 and was discharged in June 1946. He married Ruth Irene Fraser in 1949 and they had three daughters.
In his lifetime he started work as a logger then worked for Matsqui Municipality and Scotland Adamson Paving. Later he owned and operated bulldozers that became his passion. As a hobby he spent many years as a vendor at various flea markets in the valley.
Earl enjoyed playing cards, dancing, his grandchildren and many family pets. He loved Hockey Night in Canada.
Survived by Ruth, his three daughters, Faye Appleton (Peter), Judy Peterson and Sandy Letkeman (Ken); five grandchildren, Kathy Eastgate (Jim), Steven Appleton, Garrett Peterson (Jen), Brad Letkeman (Jen) and Greg Letkeman; four great-grandchildren, Vanessa, Trevor, Scott and Doug. Earl is also survived by two sisters, Shirley Draney and Freida Bates. He was sadly pre-deceased by his three brothers, Doug, Keith (Bud) and his twin brother Lloyd and his mother Mabel Paterson. Earl will also be forever remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews.
The memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 16th at The Royal Canadian Legion Hall, 26607 Fraser Highway, Aldergrove with the Reverend Ken Dean officiating.
Interment was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 16th at Hazelwood Cemetery, 34070 Hazelwood Avenue, Abbotsford.
He has left a lasting legacy through his children and grandchildren of what it is to be a hard working, honest, loyal and honourable man.

CONRAD, ANITA born February 20, 1918 in Thunder Bay (Fort William) Ontario passed away peacefully at Tabor Home, Abbotsford, BC September 10, 2008 at the age of 90. Anita served in Africa as a missionary and never married. After her return to Canada she lived in Manitoba working as a nurse. In 1980 she retired and moved to Abbotsford where she was an active member of Abbotsford Baptist Church. Survived by her sister Hilda Davey and brother Walter Conrad; nephews and nieces; David, Dennis, John, Derrick and Charlotte Conrad, Marcella Letourneau, Vicky Davison, Marlene Harrington, Ken, Gerry and Dan Conrad, Connie Kalaska Reid, Greg and Ernie Reid, Greg Reid, Daniel Chenier, Michael Chenier, Calvin Davey and Jim Davey, Pauline McLeod and Olive McDonald; and numerous grandnephews and grandnieces. Peter – born January 7, 1923 in Orenburg, Russia to Anna and John Block passed away at home in Abbotsford November 18, 2007. He is survived by Agnes, his wife of 60 years; 5 daughters, Carol (Dave) Briltz, Judy (Bill) Baron, Jeanne (Jim) Nichols, Linda (Frank) Krobath and Sandra (Mike) Klassen; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was pre-deceased by his parents, grandson Doran Hensley, brother David and sister Susie. Pete was a builder and developer by trade and built and operated Block’s Motel in Clearbrook from 1953 – 1969. He enjoyed his early retirement.
A service will be held Thursday, November 22, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Bakerview MB Church, 2285 Clearbrook Road, Abbotsford. If friends wish, a donation in Pete’s memory to the Salvation Army would be appreciated.
