He leaves behind his loving wife of 61 years Mary, his daughter Fran (Mike) Harty, son George (Cheryl) Holland, sister Clara Mott, brother Leonard (Ruth) Holland, granddaughters Michelle (Nolan) Riley, Athena (Ron) Paling, Sheri (Curtis) George, grandsons Matt (Diana) Harty, Rod (Erin) Aubichon, 11 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Lawrence was born the 11th in a family of 13 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He lived in Crystal Springs until 1939 and at the age of 18 moved to British Columbia. He moved to the Lower Mainland in 1941 and was conscripted into the Army in 1943 where he was assigned to the 21st Artillery Infantry and later served overseas as a member of the Sea Forth Highlanders. After the War Lawrence married his childhood sweetheart, Mary Loveridge, and settled in Pitt Meadows, B.C. His love of the North Country with its hunting and fishing drew them to Quesnel, B.C., where he operated a small sawmill for a few years, before returning to the Lower Mainland, working in Burnaby and residing in Maple Ridge for 47 years, then retiring in Mission for 17 years.
He traveled extensively throughout North America. He was a proud veteran and long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion. His love of gardening and belief in the spirit of nature are a great inspiration to his family. His enjoyment of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren leave a legacy of memories.
Lawrence was pre-deceased by his father Hans Andrew, and mother Carrie; brothers Carl, Hjalmer, Alfred, Henry, Julius, and Louis; and sisters Betsy, Emma, Mary and Elvene.
