To all the wonderful and warm hearted people of Cache Creek who touched the life of Colin Snowden (the English chap who was bicycling to Alaska). He had completed that part of the journey and was back in Vancouver looking forward to starting the next part of his adventure. It is with great sorrow that I am announcing that he passed away September 11, 2007. I understand he had a massive heart attack.

Carolyn Emily Tanas, a resident of Ashcroft, BC passed away on September 3rd, 2007 at the age of 61. The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 3:00 pm St Gerard’s Catholic Church in Ashcroft, BC. Father Derek officiated. We were truly blessed to experience the joy and happiness that Carolyn brought into our lives.
Please do not be sad but celebrate and give thanks for the true honor and privilege of having Carolyn in our lives and allowing us to be a part of hers.
Carolyn will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Brian, and by her children, Edward (Renee), Katherine (Bennie), Daughter-in-law Brenda, great granddaughter, Mackenzie, grandchildren, Brian, Samantha, Melissa-Joy, Devon, Michelle, Max, and Michael her brother Norman, and her sisters, Diane and Linda.
Thank you to all the friends that have given the support and condolences to Brian and the rest of the family throughout this very difficult time.
Memorial arrangements were under the care of Thompson Valley Funeral Home, Ashcroft, BC.

Bonter, John Edgar born May 31, 1920, went home to be with his lord on August 27, 2007. Left to mourn are his wife of 56 years, Anne, his sons; Peter (Nickie) Lincoln (Tracy) and Gordie; his daughters Sharon (Alan), Adele, Crystal (Sonny) and Marianne (Tim). He also leaves many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at Cache Creek Pentecostal Church on August 31, 2007, with interment at Roe Lake.

On August 27, 2007 Miss Madeline May Stephenson passed away at the age of 3 ˝ months. She will be lovingly remembered by her parents Robert Stephenson and Leah Bennett; grandparents Richard Bennett, Susan Bennett, Sheila Stephenson and Robert Stephenson Sr.; great grandparents Fran and George Betts and Helen Marjerison. Short lived, long remembered like a shooting star. Please join us on Sunday, September 9, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. to celebrate the life of Madeline May Stephenson in the Schoening Funeral Chapel, 513 Seymour Street, Kamloops. Arrangements are entrusted to Schoening Funeral Service, telephone 250 374 – 1454.

Anne passed away on August 18 in Victoria. Born in Ashcroft her home was in Clinton, she attended Grades 1 to 8 in the old Elementary two room school in Clinton & went on to High School in Kamloops. She was employed in the Land Registry Office in Kamloops & Vancouver and in Victoria’s first T.V. Station CHEK 6. She & Ron Williams were married at Fort Churchill, Hudson’s Bay. She lived in various army locations & twice in Germany. Anne is survived by husband Ron Williams, daughter Alison & husband Jim MacDonald, & grandson Jake; her sister Elizabeth Dunsmore & nephew Scott Dunsmore. She was pre-deceased by her parents Nancy & Scott Gillespie who were long time Clinton residents & by her brother-in-law Gordon Dunsmore. A graveside service was held September 15 in Hatley Gardens Cemetery, Colwood. She is greatly missed and remembered with love by us all.

Lee leaves to cherish her memory her devoted and loving husband, Robert. Predeceased by her daughter, Leanne Gidinski in 1995. Lee is survived by her family, Edward (Kathy) Gidinski of Cache Creek, Stan (Amanda) Fox of Chilliwack, Chad Gidinski of Vancouver, Tyrel Gidinski of Germany, Zoe (Bryan) Dubien of Victoria, Doreen (Trevor) McDonell of Fort St. John, Carolyn (Jeremy) O’Laney of Kamloops, Terri (Jim) O’Laney of 100 Mile House, Michael Andersen and Tanya Craig of Fort St. John. Lee was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. We will miss her.
Arrangements are in the care of Bowers Funeral Home and Crematorium, Salmon Arm.

Cecile passed away in Ashcroft, B.C. on July 30 th at the age of 85. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Keith in 1997, her sister Josephine Larson and brothers Clifford & Henry. Cecile is survived by her 2 sons Bob (Nancy), Tom, daughter Anita (Don) Page, 8 grandchildren Laura (Lynden), Dan, Rick (Radika), Shawn, Lee, Andre (Debbie), Nicole, Marcel and 8 great grandchildren. Service and Interment at a later date. Rest in Peace MOM

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandpa. Born in 1919, Jim passed away in Kamloops Royal Inland hospital on July 24, 2007 at the age of 88 years. A proud veteran of WWII, he returned from overseas with his British war bride and began married life in N. Vancouver. He worked for the City of NV for 36 years before retiring to Loon Lake, BC. Married for 62 years, he will be greatly missed by his wife Joan, daughters Donna Rennie (John) and Janet Harman (Barry) and granddaughters, Erin Rennie, Sarah and Kate Harman. A private family celebration of his life was held at the Lake.

Raymond was born on Oct. 18, 1924 in Humbolt, Sask. He passed peacefully in Shuswap Lake General Hospital on July 17th, with his wife of 58 years, Ivy, by his side. Ray is survived by his loving wife and family - seven daughters, Marie (Ken), Betty-Ann (Bill), Terry-Mae (Harold), Sharon (John), Geraldine (Robert), Jennifer (Leander) and Beatrice (Terry); 17 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, two brothers Melvin and Kenneth (Bea) and one sister Irma. He was pre-deceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth; brothers Arthur, Clarence (Bud), Gerald and sister Jenny. Raised on a farm in Saskatchewan, he left home at an early age to begin a life of hard work. He had many jobs throughout his life - the shipyards in Vancouver, lumberjack in Ontario (where he met the love of his life, Ivy), a stint in the army, farmer in Sask., Schultz Sawmill in the Cariboo, power lines over BC, pipe lines across the prairies, cement contractor in Salmon Arm, owner of general store in Alberta - to finally retiring in Chase, BC in the new home he built with his brother Mel. Ray and Ivy were married June 1949 in Ontario. They settled on the family farm in Sask., where they had five daughters. They moved to Clinton, BC in 1956 and had two more daughters. He was very proud of all his girls. Raymond was a gentle and loving father, grandfather, husband, and brother, a good neighbour and a loyal friend. His strong faith and dedication to the Rosary prayers were a great comfort to him and the family. He had an incredible sense of humour and liked to work with his hands. He enjoyed curling, golfing and gardening. He was much loved and will be dearly missed. Funeral mass was held Saturday, July 21st at 2:00 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Chase, BC with Father Bob Chisholm celebrant. Interment followed in the Chase Cemetery. Memorial donations in Ray’s name may be made to the CT Scan Campaign c/o Shuswap Hospital Foundation, the Lung Association or a charity of your choice.

It is with pain and great sadness the family of Valerie announces her sudden passing of a heart attack in Vancouver on July 4, 2007. Valerie is survived by her loving and supportive husband Chief Mike Retasket of 15 years and her son Brandon and also her pride and joy; her grandchildren Brandi and Paul. She leaves to mourn her passing her sisters, Junis, Vera, Cookie, Flora, Karen and Roberta. Her brothers Bill, Terry, Dean and Jim as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Valerie was pre-deceased by her 1st husband Morley Loon, her parents; Emily and Felix, brothers Robert and Stewart, and sisters Yvonne, Bernice and Matilda. Valerie is known to many as an activist, especially for mother earth and aboriginal rights, an artist, a green thumb, a holistic health practitioner, a drummer and singer, a reiki master, a storyteller, but most importantly, a matriarch to our family and an amazing friend.
We will miss her sparkling eyes, big smile and silly laugh. We love you Sis.

Gross, Edward “Ted” Henry passed away on November 8, 2007 at Ashcroft, British Columbia. Ted was born in Toronto, Ontario on July 10, 1927. He was pre-deceased by June, loving wife of 55 years, parents Tom and Lillian Gross, sisters: Dot, Grace, Hilda and brothers; Ed and Norm, daughter Wendy and grandchildren Jason and Tara He will be sadly missed by his surviving sister Lil and his children Lorraine, Debbie, Linda, Tim, Wayne and Brenda. Son in laws Kelly, Gerry, and Ian. Grandchildren Troy, Kelly Ann, Amanda, Matthew, Reanna, Todd and Nathan. Great Grandchildren Tristan, Derek, Cassandra, Jessica, Joseph, Tyson and Carter. And many nieces and nephews and their families. During World War Two, Ted worked in ammunitions factories and on farms in Southen, Ontario. Ted joined the army at age 18 and served in the Canadian armed forces for twenty six years, spending a great deal of his service in Dawson Creek, BC and Vancouver BC. Ted also lived in Toronto Ontario, Haggersville, Ontario and Richmond, BC. Later he moved his family to Cache Creek in 1971 where he tool a job at the Bethlehem Copper Mine before joining the staff at the Cache Creek Liquor Store. Ted was a familiar face in Cache Creek and worked at the Liquor Store until his retirement in 1987. An avid animal lover, Ted was never far from his beloved pets.
