Dyck, Walter James Wednesday, 21 Nov 2007
Quesnel, BC
It is with great sadness the family of Walter James Dyck announce his passing on November 21st, 2007 in Kelowna, B.C.
Walter was born to Peter and Nettie Dyck April 27th, 1929 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, his wife Valerie, sister Doreen Follack and Brothers Ed, Richard and Murray.
Walter moved to Quesnel with his family in 1948. He married Valerie Morgan, a lovely young nurse directly from England in 1952. Together they had 2 children Janet and Rod.
Walter mainly worked in the logging industry but also, driving the shell oil truck and school bus for awhile. He was also the first paid fireman to work for the City of Quesnel, which he did for five years. In the end logging was always in his heart and he retired from this around 1985.
Walter enjoyed many of the recreational activities Quesnel has to offer. He loved baseball and Hockey as well as hunting, fishing, boating, golfing and curling.
In 1997 Walter moved to Kelowna. There he met his loving partner Nettie. They spent 10 years together and made many new friends. Here Walter enjoyed doing his numerous wood working projects and attending many dances and senior activities, which they both so enjoyed.
Walter’s greatest pleasures came from his family and taking part in many family activities.
Walter is survived by his loving partner Nettie Solanik, his children Janet (Jules) L’Heureux of Quesnel, B.C., and Rod (Kelly) Dyck of Bamfield, B.C. Two grandsons, Wylon (Brooke) and Kayle L’Heureaux also one granddaughter Erin Dyck, two great-granddaughters, Jersey and Presley L’Heureaux. His sister Gladys and 5 brothers Elmer, Alvin (Ruby), Harvey (Theresa), Jim (Pauline), Marvin (Monica) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Crighton, Joyce Eveline Monday, 19 Nov 2007
Quesnel, BC
In sorrow and with great sadness we announce the passing of Joyce Eveline, on November 19, 2007 at her home in Dragon Lake.
Wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and wonderful friend, Joyce was born in New Westminster, the eldest child of Wilfrid and Olive Smith, on January 30, 1938.
She spent her early years on the Lower Mainland before moving to the Cariboo and Quesnel in the early 70s. Joyce made friends easily among her co-workers and customers at Shoppers Drug Mart and was greatly missed when she migrated east to Brandon, MB with her husband.
It was almost 20 years before retirement allowed them to return "home" to the closeness of family and special friends. Joyce loved the outdoors and was happiest, it seemed, when she was camped beside one of her favourite Cariboo/Chilcotin lakes, particularly if she could share the experience in the company of family and friends.
Joyce was a kind, considerate and caring person who loved, and was loved by everyone who was special in her life.
Joyce was pre-deceased by her parents. She is survived by her loving husband, Bob, daughter Brenda (Shane); stepdaughters Amanda (Rick) and Scarlet (Mike); one granddaughter (Brady-Lyn); five grandsons (Greg, Emery, Mylo, Cael and Keelin) and one great-granddaughter (Brynn), her brothers and sister; Roy (Joan), Don, Doreen and Richard; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. All members of Bob's large, extended family, as well as her very large circle of dear friends, grieve at the loss of this wonderful lady.
At Joyce's request, cremation has taken place and a private interment ceremony for the family will be held at Tranquility Gardens on Saturday, December 1st. A Celebration of Life reception will take place at her daughter's home, 588 Dennis Road (Southills) that same afternoon beginning at 1:00 o'clock. Everyone is welcome, and an opportunity to speak to Joyce's memory will be extended to anyone wishing to do so.
In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Quesnel, or to a charity of one's choice.

Grossehmig (Effenberger), Dora Elise Friday, 16 Nov 2007
Quesnel, BC
Dora Elise Grossehmig (Effenberger) passed away November 16 at the age of 99. She was born March 9, 1908 in Bellmannsdorf, Schlesien, Germany, where she married Hans Grossehmig in 1944. Hans and Dora’s only child Rita was born in 1949, and soon after they immigrated to Canada. She is pre-deceased by both her husband and her daughter.
There were many things Dora loved in life, but her family was always number one. From the time she worked in the family business as a young adult, to her immigration to Canada with her husband and daughter, to the arrival of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she always thought of family first. Dora was also an active, proud and long-standing member of the local Trinity Lutheran church.
Dora kept in regular contact with her extended family in Germany. She and Hans often had visitors stay for weeks at a time, during which they would show off the beautiful scenery on the west coast - from the occasional drive up to Alaska, down to the tip of Vancouver Island, and everything in between.
Dora had a long list of friends she kept in regular contact with. Her phone rang often and she enjoyed many visitors at her home, and later, when she moved, at Baker Lodge. For as long as I can remember people who knew Dora often remarked “My goodness Dora has a lot of energy”, and “Boy does she keep me laughing!” Yes, she was a bright spirit with plenty of energy for friends and family through all her years.
One thing was always evident with Dora –she loved having visitors. At Dora’s home this usually occurred at “coffee time”, which was around 3pm each afternoon. And whether you called to check ahead of time or just showed up, the pot was always on for whoever might arrive for a visit that day. The smell of fresh brewed coffee filled the house along with her homemade baking. Her apple cake, made with apples picked from one of her many apple trees, topped with a dollop of freshly whipped cream, was served with hot coffee in china tea cups, with saucers of course. She and Hans always said coffee tasted better from china tea cups.
As you sat down for the experience of afternoon coffee time, which always included an abundance of spirited conversation, there was a view of her expansive, beautiful rose garden out the back window. Dora loved her roses and her garden, a tradition shared with her (family of course!) husband, daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren and even her young great-grandchildren.
On her next birthday she would have celebrated 100 years of age. To arrive at Dora’s home on the day of her birthday you would be met with the phone ringing off the hook. “All of Germany” would be calling with their birthday wishes, along with her out-of-town friends. If you looked around the room it would be filled with relatives and her many friends, celebrating the day.
Dora didn’t expect she would live to be almost 100. As a child, I remember her saying “you know I’m not going to live to be that old”. She said that for about 25 years! People often asked her what kept her healthy and living to such an age. She responded with a few things: drinking homemade tea made from herbs grown in her garden, eating real butter (in other words, no chemicals!), and having lots of friends and family to look forward to visiting with. What a long, fascinating and wonderful life Dora (my Oma) lived. She is very much loved and dearly missed by many.
Dora’s spirit is honoured and survived by her grandchildren Tanis (Jens), Brad (Shelley), her son-in-law Ken, her great-grandchildren: Garrett, Nicole, Brooke and Teya, and her extended relatives in Germany and Canada.
A special note of thank you must be given to all her care-workers during the time Dora was at G.R. Baker and Baker Lodge. She always spoke fondly of the care she received, and her family wishes to express our sincere thanks as well. You are a generous, caring and wonderful group of people. Our heartfelt thank you is also expressed to Richard and the team at Clayton’s funeral chapel.
As per Dora’s wishes, in lieu of flowers donations can be made to: Trinity Lutheran Church, 375 Hartley Street, Quesnel, B.C. V2J 1W5.
