MacLAREN, Diane Saturday, 10 May 2008
Delta, BC
March 16, 1932 - May 10, 2008
Diane was born in Kimberley, B.C., third and youngest child to George Carlton and Florence Saunders. She grew up in Chemainus, B.C., graduating from Ladysmith High School in 1950. In September 1953, Diane graduated from St. Paul's School of Nursing in Vancouver. She met her husband, Bob, while caring for his mother who was in hospital, and they were married on December 4, 1954. The young couple lived in many small towns in B.C, as Bob worked on construction of the Trans Canada Hwy, and Diane nursed in various hospitals. They moved to Tsawwassen in 1965 to put down permanent roots for their family, in time for their children to start school.
Diane's greatest love was for her family, followed closely by her friends.
She was selfless to a fault, always putting others' feelings and situations before her own. Diane loved gardening, golfing, lunches with her friends, and was an active member of her church. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Bob, children Dan MacLaren of Tsawwassen, and Suzanne MacLaren of Calgary, grandchildren Michael, Katie, Anna and Rhys, and sister Joan Allester of Chemainus.
The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Team, and all those who supported mom and the family over the past weeks. We have been deeply touched by your help and compassion.
A Celebration of Diane's life will be held on Saturday, May 31st, at 3:00 p.m. at Tsawwassen United Church, 693 52nd St. Tsawwassen, B.C. In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for donations to the Delta Community Hospice Foundation, Box 19036, Delta, B.C. V4L 2P8.

BIRD, William James Wednesday, 27 Feb 2008
Delta, BC
1908 - 2008
Bill passed away peacefully during his pre-dinner nap in the 100th year of his life on February 27, 2008 after a cherished dip in the swimming pool. He is pre-deceased by his parents William and Jane, brother John (Winnipeg) and sister Ruth Shier (Edmonton). He is survived by an abundant constellation of nieces and nephews spanning 3 generations living throughout North America.
After his birth in North Bay, Ontario on July 24, 1908, Bill migrated west with his family in 1928 settling in Edmonton, Ladner, Richmond and White Rock. In Ladner he established a chicken farm with his father, which was subsequently developed into housing, and he was pleased that a favorite pear tree survives. Bill often reflected on his years in Ladner, "those were the best years of my life". He worked as a general maintenance man at the Boundary Bay Armed Forces base until retirement in 1973. Of all the jobs Bill had, his fondest memories were of the first, as a firemen on the Great Lakes coal steamers operating out of Ft. William in 1926. He proudly served in the army during WWII and was a 50 year member of Odd Fellows.
In retirement he took great pleasure in the Ladner Nifty-fifty swim club, bus trips to Reno, snooker and Friday roast beef dinners with "the boys" at the Bay.
The family would like to thank special niece Maxine (Dieter Guth) for many years of dedicated and loving primary care, and the staff of the Alan Hogg Pavilion at White Rock General Hospital, Pioneer Lane, for making his final years a joy for all. He was a great Uncle and friend, and will be truly missed by all.
At his request no funeral will be held and following cremation his remains will be deposited in the family plot at Westlawn Cemetery in Edmonton. A Celebration of Life will be held at a time to announced by the family.
In lieu of flowers please consider supporting the Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation, 15521 Russell Avenue, White Rock, BC, V4B-2R4, (604)-535-4520
