John passed away peacefully at 100 Mile Hospital, Sept. 20, 2008 at 87 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Virginia; children Theresa (Barry), Evan (Anita) and Melissa, Maureen and Rebecca and Hannah (his 2 little cowgirls) and Blake (Darcy). He is also survived by niece Ada-Marie (Kenneth) and great niece Amelia Nechka. John was born to Evan and Ida Jones in Cochrane, Alberta. He grew up there with his sister Marie on a ranch during the depression and he served in the RCAF during WWII. John and Virginia were married in 1955 and they raised their family in North Vancouver. John worked in construction all over B.C. on projects like Whistler, Granville Island and Banff. He belonged to the Royal City skating club and Holy Trinity church. Upon retirement, the cowboy life called John and Virginia to 108 Mile Ranch. Horses, border collies and friends filled his days. John will be remembered as a hardworking man who liked a good story and a laugh and he was always there for family and friends. We’re proud of you, Pop. Funeral mass will be held Oct. 4th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Judes Parish, 100 Mile House. Reception to follow at the Heritage Thyme Restaurant. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the SPCA or charity of your choice.

On Sunday September 14, the angels came for Blanche at the age of 82, after a serious stroke. Blanche was born February 3, 1926 in Shell Lake, Saskatchewan. Blanche attended school in Shell Lake and Shellbrook, Saskatchewan. In 1952, she met Hank and they moved to Lloydminster were they resided until 1958. With a young family, they moved to the BC Interior, settling around Hixon; following work, they moved to 100 Mile House in 1966, where they resided until their deaths. Blanche was an active bingo player, was a member of the Legion in Forest Grove, where she was the first woman elected to the executive. In her later years, she lived at the Pioneer Haven before moving to the Carefree Manor for the remainder of her life. Blanche is survived by her 3 children: Cye Roth, 100 Mile House; Brenda Bittner (Wayne), 100 Mile House; and Bobby Roth (Melanie), Lloydminster, Saskatchewan; 6 grandchildren: Steven Bittner (Kam), Vancouver; Jamie Bittner (Russ), 100 Mile House; Leah Bittner, 100 Mile House; Sam Roth of Lloydminster, Saskatchewan; Tammy Roth (Matt), Lloydminster, Sask.; and Jenny Russell, Williams Lake; and 5 great grandchildren: Ethan, who always made her smile; and Ryan, Dan, Bradley and one on the way. A memorial service will be held at the Carefree Manor on Sunday September 21, 2008 at 2 p.m. We love you Mom, Nana, Granny! No funeral service by request.

Joe passed away suddenly in Ashcroft on Sunday, September 7, 2008. He was born on February 25, 1930 in Saskatchewan. Joe moved his bride and newborn son to Langley, BC in 1956. In 1965 he moved his young family to 100 Mile House. He bought a small farm where he and his wife Carol raised four children. He enjoyed many hours ice fishing with his friends in the winter and loved his garden in the summer. Joe was pre-deceased by Carol, his loving wife of 43 years, in 1997. He is survived by his four children Bernie (Adele) of Merritt, Donna (Paul) of Ashcroft, Stan (Michele) of 100 Mile House and Janice (Rob) of Fraser Lake. As well as his grandchildren, Monica (Harry), Jennifer (Adrian), Keith, Clark (Leah), Ashley, Brent (Ashley) and Lindsay. He adored his great granddaughters Marie, Danica, Eva, Amira and Malayna. Funeral services will be held in 100 Mile House at St. Jude’s Parish on Saturday, September 13 at 1:00 p.m. A reception tea will follow at St. Jude’s Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations to 100 Mile General Hospital will be greatly appreciated.

HANKINS, William (Bill) Wednesday, 27 Aug 2008

Bill passed away peacefully on August 27, 2008 at the age of 87. He was born in Sussex, England and came to Canada in 1975. He moved to 108 in 1993. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Eileen, who was the girl next door he fell in love with and married in 1950. He is also survived by his daughter Chris (Mazzotti) and his son Peter as well as four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Many thanks to Dr. Mah and the staff at 100 Mile Hospital for taking good care of Bill for the last four weeks. Cremation has taken place. The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.

HARRIS, Neal Walter Monday, 18 Aug 2008

Neal Walter Harris of Kamloops passed away on August 18, 2008 at 87 years of age. He is survived by his loving wife Betty, daughter Maureen (Jim) of 100 Mile House, stepson Gary (Pat) of Vernon, and stepson Morris (Diane) of Revelstoke; grandchildren Brian Harris, Dan Olson, Doug (Adele) Olson, and Bob (Julie) Olson; great grandchildren Zack and Dylan Olson and extended family, and numerous nieces and nephews.Predeceased by his 1st wife Violet and son Wayne. Neal was born and raised in Vancouver. He loved being on the ocean. Neal proudly served in World War II. He moved to 100 Mile House with his family in 1960 and bought a farm at Buffalo Creek. He had a variety of jobs and worked many years at the Plywood Plant, Eaton’s Mail Order, as a Parts Manager at G&C; Equipment, as well as owning his own backhoe. Neal loved tying flies and fishing, especially at Ruth Lake. He moved to Kamloops and enjoyed his summers with Betty, family and friends at their second home on Shuswap Lake, always on the water. His quick wit, great sense of humour and wonderful smile will be sadly missed by many great friends and family. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the doctors and staff at Pine Grove Care Centre. Donations in Neal’s memory may be made to the Parkinson Society Canada, 316-4211 Yonge St., Toronto ON M2P 2A9. No formal ceremony by request.

(Formerly of Deka Lake), a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 17, 2008, at Langley, B.C., at the age of 89 years. Joe is survived by Nellie, his loving wife of 64 years. He leaves, also, his children: Carole (Brian), Diane (Gordon), Ardene and Joanne (Wayne), as well as hid grandchildren: Brian (Jan), Traci (Brad), Josh (Sara), Tamiko (Rob) and his great-grandchildren: Joey, Mika, Cailin, Caylib, Danika and Remy. He will, unfortunately, miss the birth of his newest, due to Traci and Brad in December. A proud Canadian, Joe served his country during WWII, in the Royal Canadian Artillery Corps He was a hard-working man, known by all for his great sense of humour. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 2:30pm on Sunday, Oct. 5 at “The Retreat”, at 15233 - 34 Ave., in South Surrey, B.C. For those desiring, donations made in his memory to the BC Cancer Foundation or the SPCA would be most appreciated. Joe’s family wish to express their sincere gratitude to all the wonderful staff at Langley Gardens, for the caring, professional way Joe was treated there.

She is now at peace and in the loving arms of our Lord and Saviour. Wife of the late John Lounsbury and the late Ivan Blevins Sr. Daughter of the late Christian and Bertha Hein. Sister of the late Alma Bishop and the late Ester Fookes. Beloved mother of Ivan Blevins (Margret), Garry Blevins (Eva), Robert Blevins, Allan Blevins (Mary) and Eleanor Ladouceur (Gary). Cherished grandmother of Carter (Erin), Shawn (Wendy), Brian (Krista), Sherry-Lynn, Steven, Michelle (Dave), Tod, Shelly, Bobby Jr., Lisa (Chris), Carole, Joseph, Michelle (Jeff) and Theresa. Great-grandmother of 18, Christina will be sadly missed by her many friends and relatives. Friends called at the Northwood Funeral Home (942 Great Northern Road, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario P6A 5K7 705-945-7758) on Monday, August 18, 2008 from 12:00 noon until time of funeral service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. The Venerable W. R. Stadnyk officiated. Shirley Lynne Case, age 30 was tragically taken from us on August 13, 2008. Shirley was born in 100 Mile House October 14, 1977 and resided at the 108. Shirley graduated from PSO in 1995 and went on to complete an Arts degree in Leisure Services at the University of Victoria. After working in Victoria for a while, traveling with friends to Central America, working in South Korea as an English teacher, in Guyana for Canada World Youth, and numerous locations for Katimavik, she decided to return to school to complete a master’s degree in Foreign Securities and Peace Building at Royal Roads University in Victoria. Shirley was deeply passionate about spending time with family and friends. Shirley loved the simple pleasures in life. Hiking, reading, helping others, and enjoying nature were some of her favourite things. Shirley worked and traveled in many locations throughout the world, many of these places being developing countries. Shirley is lovingly survived by her parents (Alec and Deb Case), sister (Pam Ellis), brother-in-law (Greg Ellis), Grandpa (John Hood), grandmother (Myra Case), many loving aunts and uncles, numerous cousins and many, many friends and associates. Shirley lived life with no inhibitions and accepted all people equally. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a trust fund at any CIBC. All donations will be forwarded to worthy organizations that Shirley supported. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Sandy Beach Resort, Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 2:00 p.m.

Born: February 22, 1927. Arthur Bailey of Blackstock Road, formerly of 70 Mile House, passed away on August 13, 2008 in 100 Mile Hospital. Arthur is survived by his loving wife Helen of 25 years, his 7 sons, 18 grandchildren, 2 great grandsons, a sister and a brother and their families along with many friends. Arthur will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers, donations are gratefully accepted in Arthur’s name to BC Children’s Hospital or Christ the King Lutheran Church, 100 Mile House, B.C. Memorial Service was held at St. Jude’s Catholic Church on Sunday, August 17, 2008. Reverend Robert Clifford officiated.

Died peacefully with family at her side. She left behind her loving family: sons Duncan (Nora) Robert (Jill) and grandchildren Danielle (Andrew), Jacob (Ayako), Vera, David (Sherie), Fiona & Allison; great grandchildren Cameron, Lucas, Joshua, Nicholas & Megan. Her husband Jim (1995) and grandson Peter (1998) pre-deceased her.
Janet was born and grew up in Scotland where she trained as a teacher. She married her Canadian Soldier at the end of "the War" and moved to Canada to raise her family in a veterans' settlement in Richmond. She moved to Burnaby when the airport expropriated their house for the new parallel runway and then to White Rock when Jim retired. She moved into Vancouver two years ago to be nearer her family.
Her love of reading and poetry lasted all her life and remain an inspiration to her family. The little packet of energy will not be forgotten.
Thanks to the staff of Sunrise and Drs. Reeves, Chang and Miller for devoted care in the last days of her life.
Rev. Rob Pollock will officiate at her memorial at St. Stephen's United Church 7025, Granville Street Vancouver Saturday, Sept 5 @ 3 PM.
Donations in her honour can be made to Christian Blind Mission Canada 1 800 567 2264.

passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family at home in Surrey at the age of 83. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband George of 61 years. She also leaves behind her children Jack (Diana); Joyce (Jerry), Marion (Ed), Wayne (Susan), Donna (Randy); 15 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. Dianne was a devout wife and mother who will remain in our hearts for ever. Celebration of Life Service to be held on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, 14831 - 28 Avenue, Surrey, B.C.
