Mrs. Adele Ruemke
March 19, 1933 - September 27, 2007
RUEMKE, Adele passed away peacefully, surrounded by love on Sept. 27th, 2007, aged 75 years.
Adele is survived by her devoted family: daughters Gillian (husband Scott) and Giselle, loved one Maria, grandson Daschiell and an expected grandson; sister Alice and brother Ron.
She is now reunited with her loving husband David, who passed away in 1990.
Adele was born in the small, German speaking village of Pisserowka, Ukraine.
She experienced a lot in her young years as her family were separated and forced to flee the turmoil of WWII.
Finally reunited, they settled in the village of Steinau, Germany, then
immigrated to Vancouver, Canada in 1950. Adele was a gentle woman, and very shy, for most of her life.
She met her soul mate David Ruemke while working for IBM in 1961.
They married in 1962 and enjoyed a ‘7 year honeymoon’ before settling back in North Vancouver to welcome ‘her two jewels’ Gillian and Giselle into the world.
Moving to Victoria in 1976, Adele and Dave protectively and lovingly raised their daughters.
Adele was an extremely loving wife and mother, giving her all to her family.
She worked several years for the Ministry of Health.
In her middle and later years, Adele survived breast cancer, heavily grieved the loss of Dave, and lived with Alzheimer’s disease.
In her last years especially, Adele transcended her shyness and became a very joyful, open, and self-expressed person, known for her sweetness, warmth, and sunny smiles.
We would like to acknowledge the staff at Heritage Woods at the Priory, particularly the “Angels of Arbutus Cottage”, RNs, and Maple Cottage also, for taking amazing care of our beautiful Mom.
