Mr. Andrew Hasanen
September 30, 1952 - October 3, 2007

Andy passed peacefully from the arms of his beloved wife to the arms of Jesus, his Lord and Savior. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Cath, sons Nick and Mike, stepchildren Tony Whitley (Renay) and Tammy Whitley (Trevor) and super special grandson David Edgar. Also Andy’s Mom Patricia Gilley, Dad Ken (Maureen), sister Lesley, brothers Buster (Shelley) and Rob (Kim) and former wife Maureen (Cam) Lennerton, along with many more extended family and friends. Andy coached Hockey in the Cowichan Valley for 24 years and was inspirational in the Christian Youth Hockey Summer Camp. Over the years he had served the Lord in many ways, including a Mission trip to Finland, Russia and Sweden in 1989 with Christian Sports Outreach.
Andy worked in the forest industry for the past 30 years, most recently with Black Label Consulting from 1995-2004 and then TimberWest from 2004-2007 as a Resource Technician. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 1:00 pm at the Shawnigan Alliance Church, 1603 Wilmot Avenue, Shawnigan Lake, B.C. Mr. Craig Warren Penner
November 25, 1960 - October 1, 2007

With overwhelming sadness, we announce the sudden passing of our son, Craig Warren Penner on October 1st, 2007.
Craig was born November 25th, 1960 in Lethbridge, Alberta. He is survived by his two daughters Melissa and Emily and their mother Gail; his Dad and Mum, Warren and Bev; his sister Cathy (Tony); nephews Brad and Ben as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Craig was predeceased by his sister, Cindy in 1980.
Craig moved to Victoria with his family at age 10 from Etzikom, Alberta. He finished his schooling at Sangster School and Dunsmuir High School. As a young man, he loved fishing with his friend, Richie, and later commercial fishing with his Dad. He took over the family business, Victoria Deck Ltd and with Gail, ran it successfully for many years. In recent years Craig has struggled with Bi-polar disorder. He was a gentle and kind soul who didn't deserve the anguish he went through. Flowers are gratefully declined, if so desired donations in Craig's memory may be made to the Archie Courtnall Centre, c/o Royal Jubilee Hospital, 1952 Bay Street, Victoria, B.C. V8R 1J8. Mrs. Doris Emma Irwin
January 1, 1916 - October 12, 2007

Born in Duncan in the early years of the twentieth century Doris was one of the original students at Queen Margaret's School for Girls, along with her sisters Aileen (Lock) and Beth (Pepler). After leaving school, she opened her own hairdressing salon, where she continued to work until her marriage. Doris flew on one of the first commercial flights from Canada to Europe after WWII to marry Frank Irwin of Birmingham, England. They lived for several years in England where Anthony (Tony) was born. The family returned to the Cowichan Valley in 1948 where daughter Jean and son Ronald were born. Doris, as the matriarch of the family, was the grandmother to Adrian and Duncan Irwin, Simon, Charlotte, and Sarah Norris and aunt to Michael and Carol (LaJeunesse) Pepler. Doris was an extremely creative artist. Her floral pastels, embroideries and watercolours are treasured by her family. Later in life she discovered her true artistic passion and explored the world of ceramics. She especially loved to decorate her white stoneware and porcelain with botanical images touched in gold. Two of the highlights of her ceramics career were taking part in an extended workshop with Robin Hopper at Pearson College of the Pacific and visiting David Leach's pottery in Devon, England. Doris was an active member of the Cowichan Valley Potters and she sold her work in several local gift shops. The family would like to thank all the staff past and present of Acacia Ty Mawr for their kind care for Doris in her last years. Donations in Doris' memory can be made to the Maple Bay Gary Oak Preserve or the Somenos Marsh Wildlife Society.
