Passed away October 23, 2007 in Richmond, B.C. Janet was born to James & Margaret Gilmour on May 1, 1943 in Scotland. She is lovingly survived by husband John “Iain”; son Gary (Gwenaëlle); brother Jim ; sister May; and grandchildren Nicholas & Alexander. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, October 29, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at the Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Rd., Richmond, B.C. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Janet’s memory may be made to The ALS Society of B.C.

Mrs. Muriel S. Layden
September 13, 1918 - October 9, 2007
Muriel died peacefully in hospital at the age of 89 after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Calgary, Alberta and moved to the British Properties, West Vancouver in 1957. She later moved to Lynne Valley where she resided for many years and to Richmond in 1998. Muriel was a long time employee of The Bay downtown. She volunteered for the North Shore CNIB, White Cane Club, the Red Cross and was a proud member of the IODE. Muriel is survived by her sister Vivienne Douglas, her sister-in–law Fran Potts; her children: Maureen Bobb (Jim), Marilyn Weber (Martin), Ginny Layden and Doug Layden; her grandchildren: Chari (David), Sean (May), Tisha (Steve), Jeffery, Nicole (Randall), Michele (Chris) and Robin; Her great-grandchildren: Kiara, Zinaida, Tobias, Miles, Tristan, Alexander and Simon as well as her former son in law Doug Nielsen. As a Founder’s Club member at Gilmore Gardens, Muriel was a proud and tireless volunteer; she helped maintain Mo’s Garden, organize supplies for bingo and care for the resident canaries. Being from a Montessori background, Muriel always stressed the importance of education for her children and grandchildren. She also always had an open door for those nieces and nephews who needed a place to live while pursuing their studies. Muriel enjoyed traveling, watching sports on TV, game shows and most of all being surrounded by her family. Muriel was proud of each and every one of her family members and took great pleasure in introducing them at every opportunity to those around her. She was greatly loved and will be missed by her family, friends and all the staff and residents at Gilmore Gardens. A celebration of her life will be held at the Gilmore Gardens Residence, 4088 Blundell Rd., Richmond, B.C., on Sunday October 14, 2007 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers donations to either the CNIB or the Red Cross would be appreciated.

ZWICK, KARL passed away peacefully on October 9, 2007 after a 20 year struggle with Parkinson’s disease, and 12 years with prostate cancer, at the age of 75 years. Predeceased by his parents, and his brother Eric. Survived by his loving wife of 49 years Ursula, his daughter Linda, nephew Eric and nieces Maria, and Anita. The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Nuttall for all his dedication to Karl’s care, and to the nursing staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Royal 1.

Passed away in Richmond at the age of 64 from cancer. Funeral Services will be held on November 1, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. with a visitation at 12:00 to 12:45 p.m. at The Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Richmond. Interment will be in Rosthern, Saskatchewan. She leaves behind her loving husband, Gary Toop; and her mother, Irene Markwark; her daughters, Michele (Petri) and Lara; brother, Winston; and grandson, Jesse. She was predeceased by her father, Reinhold Markwar.

Born April 29, 1946 in Fargo, North Dakota died October 27, 2007 in Richmond Hospital surrounded by love. Arlen lived with great courage, dignity and integrity volunteering in many capacities to help create a better future for those with disabilities. He is survived by his wife Sharon, stepdaughters Cheryl and Corie, grandchildren Brandon, Daniel, Reid, Stephanie and Amy, sister Neila, niece, Anne and great-niece Makena of Lansing, Michigan and niece Melissa of San Mateo, California. Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 3, 11:00 a.m. at Gilmore Park United Church located at 8060 No.1 Road, Richmond. Passed away October 26, 2007 at age 87 after a brief struggle with cancer. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Margaret (Peggy) Mason, daughters Carole-Lynn (Marvin) Fraser, Heather (Del) Gilleran, grandchildren Jamie and Geoffrey Fraser, Michael and Melissa Maniquet and four great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Canadian Cancer Agency in his name. A memorial service will be held November 2, 2007 at the Richmond Funeral Home at 1:30 pm, with a reception to follow.

Born in Alliance, Alberta on November 6th, 1917 passed away in Richmond on October 29, 2007 with her family at her side. Survived by her children Sharon (Eric), Bill (Carell), Pat (Rick), Shelly (Dennis), loved by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, survived by her sisters Hazel, Florence and Reta and all other relatives and friends. Memorial service at Richmond Funeral Home, 8420 Cambie Road in Richmond on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined.
