Mrs. Bernice (Doris) Massie
June 28, 1925 - October 20, 2007
Born in Fort Garry, Manitoba on June 28, 1925. After a long struggle with lymphoma, "Bernie" left us on October 20, 2007 while at home with her children; Susan (James) Gemmill of Surrey; John Vogelaar (Margaret) of Duncan; Gerald (Lori) Vogelaar of Spruce Grove, AB; and Pam Elsby of Mill Bay by her side. Predeceased by their father, William Franklin Vogelaar in 1972, Mom will be sorely missed by her children and their families. Bernie was always there for her children; her eleven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren of whom she was very proud. Bernie was a hard-working, strong and selfless woman. She was a fine seamstress, sewed army uniforms during the war and made beautiful handicrafts throughout her life. She had a passion for gardening and was an excellent cook and homemaker. Bernie's family would like to thank Dr. Faulkner, her nurses and home care support services for their thoughtfulness and excellent care during this difficult time. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Beloved Mother and friend, God speed.

He was also instrumental in forming and the Charter President of Nanaimo North Rotary Club. Dave will be proudly and lovingly remembered by his family and friends as a tireless organizer and fundraiser for the many good causes he supported throughout his whole life; as a lifelong animal lover with his many dog companions; as Santa Claus whose presence would induce delight and excitement to hundreds of children and adults who sat on his lap over the years; and as a fine, upstanding and involved member of all his communities. His sharp mind, keen sense of humour, and thoughtful actions will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A Celebration of David’s life will be held at the Trinity United Church, 6234 Spartan Road, Nanaimo, BC on Tuesday, October 30th at 2:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined.
