David Lester Alderson

David, son of the late Willaim and Eleanor (Beddow) Alderson of Sydney Mines, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2000, in Vancouver.
He is survived by his wife Jeanne, Vancouver; also his children, Debbie (Tom MacDonald), North Sydney, Louise (William MacDougall), Halifax, Tena (Dannie LeBlanc), Big Bras d’Or, Glen (Sherri), Ontario, Arnold (Janet), Sydney, and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by four sisters, Dorothy Webber, Ontario, Eileen Romeo and Eleanor MacGean, Sydney Mines, Sheila MacIntosh, New Brunswick and one brother, Karl, Ontario.
The remains have been cremated at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel, Vancouver, B.C. and will be buried at Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery in Sydney Mines with Rev. Brenda Drake MacDonald officiating.

Lloyd K. Abbott, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 9, 2000, at Peace Arch Hospital.
Survived by his loving wife, Vera; son, George (Merrily), White Rock, B.C.; daughters, Judy (Laurie) Dauphinee, Red Deer, Alta., Rosamond Forrest, Bracebridge, Ont.; grandchildren, Kerri (Kevin), Kelly, Jonathan (Kimberly), Sarah, Heather, Laura, Elizabeth; and great-grandchildren Tyler and Paige.

Michael Paul Thomson

On Dec. 14, 1999, Michael Paul Thomson of Chase, B.C., passed away suddenly in Kamloops, B.C., at the age of 17 years.
Michael was born in Glace Bay, N.S., on July 8, 1982. As a member of a military family, he lived in numerous Canadian communities. For five months, he resided in Dominion, Cape Breton, attending the school there. Since 1993, he lived in Chase. Michael was a member of Rocky Mountain Rangers Cadet Corps. An avid musician, he excelled in playing the guitar.
He is survived by his parents, Robert and Tiare, Chase, B.C.; his sister, Catherine, Chase, B.C.; birth mother, Linda Martin, Ontario; grandparents, Annabelle (Higgins) Thomson, Glace Bay and Rollie and Dolores Phillips, Chase, B.C.; godmother, Isabell Musial, Glace Bay; many relatives and friends.
A memorial mass will be celebrated in St. Joseph’s Church, Reserve Mines, Monday, June 19 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery.

Maureen McDonald
53, Campbell River, B.C.
Maureen McDonald, 53, of Campbell River, B.C. and a former resident of Mechanic Street, Glace Bay, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2000, after a lengthy illness.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Emerita (Bates) McDonald.
When residing in Glace Bay, she was a member of St. Anne’s Church.
She is survived by two sons, Charles “Chuck” (wife Tracey), Halifax, Jimmy (Campbell River, B.C.); one brother, Gerry (wife Barbara), Glace Bay; two sisters, Sharlyn (Mrs. Mike Nolan), Alberta, Annette (Mrs. Bill George), Alaska and one grandson, Mathew. Also a very special aunt, Mrs. Bunny Bond, and an uncle, Mr. Johnie Lauchie McDonald.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 21, 2000, in St. Anne’s Church with Fr. Doug Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in St. Anne’s Cemetery.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Maureen’s memory may be made to the Palliative Care or Lung Association.
Family will receive friends and relatives in the foyer of the church prior to the funeral mass.
Cecil Jesty
69, Vancouver, B.C.
Passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2000, at St. Paul’s Hospital, Vancouver, B.C.
Born in North Sydney, Cecil resided in Vancouver for the past 30 years.
Cecil served in Korea in 1951 and 1952 and retired from the service in 1954, he was an iron worker by trade and worked at various construction sites in British Columbia.
He is survived by his former wife Deborah and three children, Debbie and Marly, Calgary and son David, British Columbia. He is also survived by a brother, Archie (Amelia), North Sydney; a sister, Mabel (Cyril) Wagner and by a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Charlotte (Farrell) and a brother, Reginald.
Cremation has taken place in Vancouver.
Sharon Ann MacDonald
46, British Columbia
Sharon Ann MacDonald, a resident of Glace Bay, N.S. for 43 years before moving to Kamloops, B.C. three years ago, passed away suddenly Sunday, March 19, 2000, at the Riverside Coliseum while attending a concert. She was 46-years-old.
Sharon was predeceased by her mother, Jeanette Hiscock.
She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Malcolm MacDonald, Kamloops, B.C.; sons, David, Halifax, N.S. and Cory, Kamloops, B.C.; father, Clayton and stepmother, Theresa Hiscock, Glace Bay, N.S.; brothers, Donnie Hiscock, Glace Bay, N.S., David Hiscock, Brantford, Ont. and Melvin Hiscock, Glace Bay, N.S.
Before moving to Kamloops, B.C., Sharon was a member of the Yismenettes for a number of years, She worked at Bruce's Place and Colleen's Cuisine for a total of 12 years. After moving to Kamloops, Sharon worked at Denny's Restaurant where she made many good friends, both customers and co workers,
She will be remembered by her friends and family for her good nature, kind heart, sense of humour, tremendous spirit and love of having a good time.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 28, at 2 p.m. The service will take place at Epworth United Church, York Street, Glace Bay, N.S. with Rev. Bill Matthews officiating.
A memorial service will be planned for Sharon in Kamloops at a later date.
Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to either the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Daniel William Dean

Daniel William Dean passed away peacefully at home on Friday, Jan. 28, 2000.
He was born on Nov. 6, 1930, in Glace Bay, N.S.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 46 years, Anne; children, Terry (Robyn), Glace Bay, N.S., Dave, Chilliwack, Aaron (Denise), North Sydney, N.S., Danny (Debbie), Sydney River, N.S., Glen, Surrey, B.C. and Cheryl, Chilliwack; grandchildren, Candace, Wade, Aimee and Tiffany; siblings, Mary (Bordon) Smythe, Centralia, Ont., Mae (Elmer) Archibald, Truro, N.S., Jeanette (Charles) McKinnon, Centralia, Ont., Shirley Creemer, Nova Scotia, Walter (Myrtle), Truro, N.S., James (Edie), Truro, N.S., Janet (Allan) MacAdam, Sydney, N.S. and Anne Gerow, New Waterford, N.S.
He was predeceased by his parents, James and Lillian and brothers, John and Herbert.
Daniel worked for Devco coal mines in Glace Bay, N.S. for 29 years. In 1994, he and Anne moved to Chilliwack. Daniel enjoyed music and his favourite instrument was the violin. He was a member of the Fraser Valley Old Time Fiddles and participated in the fiddle contests. He was also a member of the “We 3” Band and played for the Mom’s and Dad’s Club. Daniel belonged to the CNIB and the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.
A viewing will be held for family and friends Thursday, Feb. 3 at 7:30 p.m. from Woodlawn Funeral Home, 45865 Hooking Ave., Chilliwack. A private graveside service will be held Friday, Feb. 4 from Chilliwack Cemeteries on Little Mountain. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m. from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 46956, Yale Road, Chilliwack, Robert Porter officiating.
