Kenneth Daniel Benner, OMM,CD, CDR/LOCL, RET'D

Born Orillia, Ont., Aug. 14, 1935, died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at his home in Comox, surrounded by his family and friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Survived by his loving wife, Joan and daughters, Allison (Loucas), Leah (Keith) and Jennifer (Sean), and siblings, Robert (Debbie), Margaret and John (Merina) and several nieces and nephews.
Ken served over 40 years in the Canadian Forces (Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army). His service was divided almost equally between the Navy and the Army, with his early years spent in the Canadian Fleet Air Arm.
He is a graduate of Mount Allison University and Pine Hill Divinity Hall (Halifax).
In his service with the Army, Ken spent 10 years as an active paratrooper. His last 25 years of service were as a chaplain, serving in Europe, the Middle East, at sea, and in land establishments and bases in Canada.
Following retirement from the Permanent Force, Ken remained active with the Reserve Force and served for five years as the minister of Saint Stephen’s United Church in Qualicum Beach and Grace United Church in Coombs.
After three and a half years of RV’ing around North America, visiting friends and family, he and Joan settled in Comox and Ken served as the minister of Texada Island United Church.
In July 1999, Ken was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in recognition of his service to his country, parishioners and community through Rotary. Ken will always be remembered for his sense of humour, strength of character and conviction, and his genuine love of people.
Ken’s family wish to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. John Law, Hospice, and other friends and caregivers for their tireless care and compassion particularly in the last difficult days of Ken’s illness.
The memorial service will he held at Saint Michael and All Angels Chapel (P), CFB Comox.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Gorrie and BGEN the Rev. Canon Gerry Peddle at 2:30 p.m., Feb. 19, 2000. A reception will follow at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants’ Mess at CFB Comox.
Carmella died in Victoria, B.C. on Monday, Jan. 3, 2000.
She was born in Reserve Mines, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Neil K. and Aileen (MacDonald) McNeil.
Carmella is survived by son, Stan, (Lynne) Ritz; daughters, Aileen (Richard) Holland, Kathy (Ted) Soltys; brothers, John L. (Josie), Sydney, Ted (Marge), Reserve; sisters, Barbara Miles, Toronto, Marie (Peter) MacPhee, Bridgeport and seven loving grandsons and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her husbands, Alan Ritz and Ralph Poilievre, brothers, Neil F., Arthur, Gerald and sisters, Catherine, (Ena) Sr. Josita McNeil and Mae.
Burial will take place in Victoria, B.C.

Annabelle Young

Annabelle Young passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C. on Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000.
Born in St. Ann’s, Cape Breton on Oct. 6, 1913. Daughter of the late John and Annie Yeo, Annabelle was the beloved wife of the late Herbert Young.
Lovingly remembered by her family, sister Mary (Maurice) MacDonald, Sydney, Cape Breton; nieces, and nephews, Mary Lou (Tom) Stobbs, Valerie (Lloyd) Chartrand, Corinne (Kurt) Albiez, John (Ruth) Arsenault, Marjorie Mayer, Marilyn (Gordon) Young, Robert (Joan) Young, Deirdre (Alphonse) Grotkowski, James (Anne) Balding, Ruth Bonser, Jeanette (Jack) Sparks, Jim Muir, Lynn Young, Jacqueline Laker and their families; sisters-in-law, Jeannette, Maple Ridge, B.C. and Helen, Calgary, Alta.
Annabelle was a life-time member of the Queen City Chapter No. 5 Order of the Eastern Star, and of the Amaranth.
Memorial service was held at Sands Funeral Chapel, 1803 Quadra St., Victoria, B.C., Monday, Jan. 10, 2000 at 4 p.m. with Pastor Robert Daun officiating. Cremation entrusted to Hatley Memorial Gardens. Following the service family and friends were invited to the Sands Arbor Reception Centre for refreshments.

Harrison Hugh Kelly

Fifteen-month-old Harrison High Kelly passed into the presence of the Lord on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2000.
Born in Langley, B.C. on Oct. 26, 1998, he was the beloved son of Aubrey and Heather (Bonnell) Kelly.
Loving grandson of Melvin and Judy Bonnell, Leitches Creek and Hugh and Diane Kelly, Avonport, N.S. Also left to mourn are Harry’s three great-grandmothers, Anita Kelly, North Sydney, Beatrice Bonnell, Leitches Creek and Frances Milliagn, Avonport, N.S. Harry will be greatly missed by uncle Mark and aunt Gwen Bonnell, uncle Jon, aunt Marie and cousin Adam Hunt. Also uncles Craig and Colin Kelly and many great aunts and uncles.
Memorial service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Victoria Drive Gospel Hall, Vancouver, B.C.
Funeral service will be held at the Avonport Gospel Hall, Monday, Jan. 17, 2000 at 1 p.m.

The death of Thomas H. Wadden, age 55, occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Vancouver, B.C.
He was the son of the late Crawford and Ada Wadden of Courtney, B.C.
He is survived by his aunt, Mrs. Catherine Smith, Amberwood Drive, Westmount; uncles, Kenneth Wadden, Ucluelet, B.C., Hugh Wadden, Buchans, Nfld. and Robert Wadden, Ottawa, Ont.
Cremation has taken place and burial will be in St. Paul’s Parish Cemetery, Port Morien at a later date.

Marilyn Anne Isaac, our beloved, darling sister lost her long battle with quiet courage and dignity at the age of 55 on Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, in the arms of our Lord and her brothers and sisters.
Marilyn lived her life bringing wonderful happiness and a rich legacy to her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and her many, many friends. Her spirit, zest for life and sparkling smile will be forever remembered.

Eddie Bowles, formerly of Whitney Pier, passed away on Monday, Oct. 11, 1999.
He is survived by five daughters, Pat, Shirley, Jackie, all of Victoria, B.C., Georgina, Belleville, Ont. and Delores, Halifax; one son Eddie, Vancouver and his former wife, Olive Bowles, Halifax. Also surviving is grandson, Kevin Bowles, Sydney; two great-grandchildren, Tiffany Perry and Tyrone Bowles.
He was predeceased by a brother, Charlie Bowles.
