FLORIAN EDWARD “ED” NORDICK
June 24, 1923 - December 20, 2010

Ed passed away peacefully on December 20, 2010 in Kamloops B.C., with his family at his side. Ed was relieved from the pain and discomfort he had over the last few months which he handled with grace and dignity. He is survived by his wife Maybelle. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage together. Ed is also survived by his eight children; Glenn (Cheryllynn), Wendy (Bill Blair), Teresa (Bob Wright), Allen (Deanna), Bonnie (Mark Bartle), Linda (Nick DeCicco), Kurt (Lanette), and Karen (Nick Dicostanzo). He will also be greatly missed by his 23 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Ed was predeceased by his parents and all of his 14 siblings.

Ed was born on June 24, 1923 in Englefeld, Saskatchewan. Raised during the depression, Ed enjoyed sports and school until he quit after grade 8 to make ends meet for his family. Ed served his country in the WW II European theatre of war. Upon his return from overseas, he was introduced to his future wife Maybelle by his nephew. They enjoyed attending dances together and playing cards. Ed and Maybelle moved to Kamsack, Saskatchewan and started their family. Ed supported their growing family by running a butcher shop. Ed’s came to love B.C. during his time in the military. In 1961, Ed and Maybelle made a decision to move to Kamloops and worked at Safety Mart as a meat cutter for 22 years. He worked as a custodian at OLPH School until his “second” retirement

He will be fondly remembered for his terrific sense of humour and his love of good food. He always made sure guests left the table without room for another bite. Many of his family’s greatest memories of Ed took place at the cabin which he built on Kamloops Lake. There he would treat everyone to his famous waffle and doughboy breakfasts. He enjoyed campfires and campfire songs, hunting with his children, fishing and gardening. Ed’s legacy to his family will be the love he showed them, and the interest he showed in their lives. He was a member of OLPH Church, Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion. Ed always said that Catholicism “built a family.” His children all received a gifted childhood and lifelong lessons from the love and example he set on how to take care of one’s family.

Dad, “Go straight home and don’t fool around on the road.”

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Hollman, Dr. Howie and the staff at RIH, the Hamlets and the Marjorie Snowden Willoughby Hospice House.
