MacPHERSON - John (Jack), born June 26th, 1911, passed away peacefully at home with all his family near November 16th, 2000 in Burnaby at the age of 89. He is survived by his loving family, and will be greatly missed by Marguerite his wife of 60 years; his only sister Elizabeth Reeves of Montreal; children, Paul, and Deborah (Brian); and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jack was born in New York and moved to Montreal with his sister in 1913. He lived there until he was 15 when he came to Vancouver to work and live with his aunt. Jack worked as a golf caddie where he learned to love and play the game himself. He once caddied for the Prince of Wales. He was an incredible player and could be seen playing with a gallery following him round the Vancouver courses. He married Marguerite in 1940 and worked as a butcher and a taxi cab driver until finally becoming a manager of the bar at the Lougheed Hotel in Burnaby. Jack was a fun, practical joker who played many a trick on his friends and his family. He made lifetime friendships with many many people in the hotel and bar industry but his true happiness was in the love of his family. Pop was the best father any one could have. While he was not demonstrative, he was extremely proud and full of love for his children. When his children were small he played with them endlessly. He leaves us with so many good memories of his never ending sense of humour and playfulness. Pop was a good sport. In his last few years he was blessed with his two lights of his life, his most recent grandchildren, Spencer and Cara, they loved their Poppy so much and he them. He lived to see Spencer start school which was very important for Poppy. He will be with us forever. He has taught us all to enjoy the spirit of fun in our lives. We will always smile when we think of the laughing, loving Dad and Grandfather that he was. The world is a sadder, emptier place without him. The family wish to express their endless thanks to the Burnaby Hospital Palliative Care Staff. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Cancer Society if you so wish, otherwise just make the time to laugh and love the ones you are with as Jack always did in his life. Prayers Monday, November 20th, 6 p.m. at St. Theresa's Parish, 5146 Laurel St., Burnaby, Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November 21st, 11 a.m. Interment will be at Ocean View Cemetery.
