PAULIK - Wilmar B. (October 31, 1923 - January 02, 2001). "Will" was a long time Richmond resident and has lived in Delta for the past 5 years. He was predeceased by his brother Edgar in 1997. Survived by his loving wife Dorothy; sons Jim and Jerry; daughters Pat Maloney, Kathi and Cindy Paulik; six grandchildren; brothers Wally and Edgar; sister Madelaine Basiren. He devoted the last 30 years of his life to environmental enhancement in the Lower Mainland. POWELL (nee LEMINSKI) - Frances Helen (Mickey) passed away peacefully on January 1, 2001, at the age of 72, following a gracious and courageous battle with cancer, at St. James Cottage Hospice. She will be greatly missed and remembered as a loving mother and friend to daughters Debi of Vancouver and Donna and son-in-law Donald Scarrow of Hannover, Germany. Frances (Mickey) retired from Revenue Canada in 1993, following 20 years of loyal service. She was an active and longstanding member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Frances will always be fondly remembered for her kindness, quick wit, wonderful sense of humour and her incredible love and dedication to her family and friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, January 7, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of St. James Cottage Hospice, 650 North Penticton St., Vancouver, B.C. She was predeceased by her parents Francis Deegan and Blanche Gartell; her husbands Donald Patterson and Gus Schmunk; son John Donald Patterson; brothers Ernest, Jimmy and Milo Deegan; sisters Frances and Blanche Deegan. Vaananen - Jeffrey Eric of Kelowna, B.C., passed away Saturday, 30 December, 2000 at the age of 32. Jeff is survived by his loving wife Celine; his two daughters, Nadege and Danae, and by a little one on the way. He was predeceased by his mother Judith Ann Jyrkkanen and by his cousin Karl Konrad Nagy of Canmore, Alberta. Also left to mourn are father Jorma Jyrkkanen; grandparents Paula Jyrkkanen of Vancouver and Georgena Cochran of Miami, Manitoba; parents-in-law Antoine and Lucette Conti and their son Frederic and his wife Karine of Paris, France; and by numerous uncles, aunts, cousins and friends across the country. Jeff graduated with his PhD from the University of British Columbia in 1997. After a brief time in the United States and in France, Jeff and Celine returned to Kelowna where they started the educational/multimedia company Professor Bee Productions Inc. and several other enterprises. Jeff was an instructor in the Canadian Ski Patrol and a member of the Rotary Club of Kelowna Capri. A funeral service will be held Saturday, 6 January 2001 in the Chapel of the Springfield Funeral Home, 2020 Springfield Road, Kelowna. AXENTY - Anne passed away peacefully in her 94th year on June 5, 2000. Predeceased by husband Peter Axenty, son Leonard and grandson Gerald. Survived by daughter Millie McLachlan; son Lloyd Axenty (Beryl); 8 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren. Anne was a hard working, independent woman who worked several jobs to support her young family, and managed her own triplex in Vancouver until age 89. BAIN - Mary Rea died peacefully at St. Mary's Hospital in Sechelt, B.C. Molly Bain (nee Wellerman) was born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne on January 2nd, 1904. She was raised in Quebec and Ontario. Her father Rev. C.C. Wellerman was a concerned leader in the welfare of others. He was a good friend of J.S. Woodsworth founder of the CCF. His daughter Molly followed in his footsteps espousing social reform - often at times when it was unpopular to do so. She was a long time member of the Voice of Women. Mom was a teacher in a multi-grade school near Trout Creek, Ontario, also at Hillcrest Progressive School and the wartime Day Nursery School in Toronto. Molly was predeceased by her husband Jack in 1985. She leaves behind: her daughter Yvonne, whose loving care added extra years of life; her son David (Joan); her grandson Andre (June); granddaughters, Laura (Colin), Sharon (Johnny), Susanne (Mark); and 8 great-grandchildren. Molly lived a long and valued life - an inspiration to us all. Memorial Service will be held at Gibsons United Church, 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 13th.
