CAWSTON - Becky left this world Friday, December 8, 2000 to meet her next challenge. She is remembered by her beloved husband Reg; her favourite eldest daughter Mandy, and her favorite youngest daughter Amy. She will be greatly missed by her mother Joan, (She Who Must be Obeyed), her sister Susie (Rob and The Sandersons), her brother Ted (and Linda), and her brother Randy (Diane and The Wilsons), as well as the countless friends made along the way. CHRISTOFFER - (nee Rose Jared) passed away peacefully on December 12, 2000 at the age of 83. Survived by her loving husband, Harry; daughters Noreen (John) and Cheryl (Mike); sons Harry (Lyn) and Ron (Sandra); eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. CROSS - Richard H. (R.P.A.) of Surrey, born November 30th, 1949 in Duncan, B.C., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loving family and friends on Friday, December 8, 2000. A graduate of Victoria High, Richard later attended S.A.I.T., graduating with a degree in Petroleum Technology. Richard will be deeply missed and remembered by many, his loving wife Joys; children Daisy, Linda, Graham, Cameron and Grant, the father of Richard's only grandchild, Corinne; mother Margaret Lother; sisters Sharon (Ross) Chisholm and Kirsten (Ben) Kopp; also by his nieces Nicole and Alisha. Richard approached everything in life with passion and has made a lasting impact on all the lives he touched. GRAHAM - Albert (Bert) born in Vancouver on December 22, 1913, passed away peacefully in Penticton on December 10, 2000. Predeceased by his son, Anthony. Left to mourn his passing are his wife of 58 years, Liza; son, James of Midway and daughter, Elizabeth of Vancouver; 2 grandchildren, Anthony and Theresa; brother, Jim (Isabelle) of West Vancouver and sister, Maysie of Vancouver. His family cherishes the memory of a strong gentleman of the old school who leaves a legacy of moral values, devotion to family, exceptional work ethics and personal integry so strongly reflected in the life he led. He was a proud Canadian, but took comfort in his Scottish heritage. As a pioneer orchardist in the Osoyoos area, he was deeply involved in the fruit industry and Canadian Department of Agriculture, Boy Scout movement, Rotary Club, Flood Control and Salvation Army. He contributed five war years as a bombing instructor in the Canadian Air Force. In 1943, when the German submarines were sinking many of the ships taking supplies to Britain, he installed the first airborne radar in Canadian planes, and it was radar that ended the submarine battle of the North Atlantic. "For when the one great scorer comes To write against your name, He writes not how you won or lost But how you played the game." Funeral service to be held on Thursday, December 14, 2000 at 1:00 pm, from graveside of Parkview Funeral Home, 1258 Main St., Penticton. HAGGERTY - Jim passed away peacefully in Vancouver on Saturday, December 9, 2000 at 69 years of age. Left to mourn is his partner, Joan Ledgerwood; her children, Jim and Lynda (Pete); 3 grandchildren; sister, Thora McPherson (Harold); 2 nieces; 2 nephews and their children. He will also be missed by Grant and Scott Peters. Jim an avid golfer was better known for his kind heart and his volunteer work in BC Children's Hospital P.A.R. and in the Special Care Nursery, where he will be remembered by all the families whose lives he touched, especially Rachel and her children, Safina and Odessa to whom he was known as grandpa. Memorial services will be held in the chapel at BC Children's Hospital at 1:00 pm and at West Point Grey Baptist Church, 4509 West 11th Avenue, Vancouver at 3:00 pm both on Thursday, December 14, 2000. HARWOOD - Ellen Stephen (Mitchell). Loving mother, grandmother, and beloved family member and friend, passed away suddenly on December 10, 2000 at 70 years. Her peaceful passing was with her children at her bedside. A long term resident of Richmond, Ellen was predeceased by her husband Don in 1993 and is survived by children and grandchildren: Jean Garnett (Bob-Ryan and Jennie), Fred (Evelyn - Julie and Katy), Laura Carney (Jim - Austin and Emily), Brad (Sabrina Di Maio) and by her brothers Jack, Ken and Joe Mitchell and her sister Jean Jenkins. Ellen's tremendous legacy is the lasting impact she had on the lives she touched. She taught us that "Families are Forever" and "the neighbourhood is the people." A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 17th at 3:00 pm in South Arm United Church, 11051 No. 3 Road in Richmond. HAWKE - Margaret June. Our "Margie" passed away suddenly at her home in Surrey on December 10, 2000 at the age of 77. "Today we lost a very giving lady". LAYFIELD - Harold Scott passed away on December 4th, 2000. Born Cheshire, England on January 25th, 1909. Emigrated to Canada in 1911 aboard the Lusitania. Living in Winnipeg until 1940 and was married there to Yvonne Graham in that year. Harold was transferred to Vancouver and worked there until 1957 at which time he was transferred to Burlington, Ont. In 1973 he retired to Langley, B.C. where he lived until 1994. He then resided on Saltspring Island, B.C. until his passing. Harold is survived by his wife of 60 years, Yvonne; his daughters Stephanie Bond (Malcolm) and Franki Johnstone (Andrew); and grandchildren Harold (Julie), Andrew, Sarah, Steffan, Emily Bond and Benjamin Johnstone. Harold was a man of many talents. He started his work with the Grain Exchange in Winnipeg but in the 1930's he transferred to the Bonar and Bemis Company where he worked until retiring in 1974. He started and then managed the Machinery Division for Bemis from 1957 until 1973. His work took him to many parts of the U.S., Canada and Europe servicing the machinery needs of the many Bemis packaging plants and their customers. He was a member of the United Airlines Red Carpet club having logged over 1,000,000 miles with United. In private life Harold enjoyed target shooting, especially as a member of the Coast Marksmen, Golf (serving as Captain of the Burlington Golf and Country Club), photography, and many home repair projects for friends and neighbours. Private service will be held later. Those wishing to remember him may send a donation to the B.C. Cancer Society.

MacLEOD - Audrey Anne passed away at Royal Inland Hospital December 7, 2000 in her 70th year. Audrey is survived by her loving companion Andrew Conley; her brother John Shaw and his wife Sally; her son Bruce MacDonald and his wife Francesca and grandson Richard and granddaughter Tammy; and her daughter Debbie MacDonald; her daughter Janice Arthur and grandsons Ryan and Robert and granddaughter Natasha; her daughter Cynthia Simmons and her husband Jack with grandson Todd, his wife Courtney and great-grandson Jackson and granddaughters Marlee and Chelan; her son Ross MacDonald and granddaughter Sierra and grandson Dillon; her three stepsons Rod Husdon, Mark Husdon and Brad Husdon. She will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. After cremation there will be a memorial service for family and friends to pay their respects early in the new year in the Lower Mainland. No flowers by request of the family. Those who wish, may make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Fund in her name.
