CADE, Pierre (PH) passed away suddenly February 4, 2003 at the age of 36 years. PH is survived by his parents, Bruno and Brigitte; sister, Titi; brother, Geoffroy in France; many close friends in Vancouver and Montreal. Visitation for PH will be held at Mount Pleasant Universal Funeral Home, 306 E. 11th Ave., Vancouver on Thursday, February 13 from 4-6 p.m. Funeral service and burial will be held in France at a later date.

CHAPMAN, Mary (nee Colancy), born July 7, 1910, went to celebrate in Heaven with predeceased husband, Fred (1962). She leaves adored daughters, Pat (Keith) Hamilton and Ruth (Joe) Morlock; 7 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren, who will continue her devotion to love of family and friends. Family gratefully thank awesome staff and community at Zion Park Manor for their unfailing support and love for Mary these past 3 years. Memorial service will be held Thursday, February 13 at 10 a.m. at Sunshine Hills Foursquare Church, 6749 Scott Rd., Delta. CHEUNG, Rose Wong. Born on 4th of July 1913 passed away 4th of February 2003 at age 89 years. Predeceased by her husband John and sister Anna. DA PONTE, Ricardo. Born May 15th, 1930 in Acorez, Portugal passed away peacefully February 8th, 2003 after a long battle with cancer. He is survived locally by his brother Antonio (Maria-Julia), nieces Connie, Josie, Eduarda, Louisa, Elizabeth, Elia, nephews Ricardo and Tony, as well as many family members in the Lower Mainland, Toronto, Portugal and Brazil. Family and friends will lovingly remember him as a kind and devote Catholic who went to great lengths to bring his family here to Canada. He lived his life to the fullest and will be dearly missed. Prayers and visitation will take place Tuesday, February 11th, 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrow Church, 555 Slocan Street, Vancouver. DARBY, Gwladys Amy, June 2, 1920 - February 8, 2003. Mom passed away peacefully with many family members by her side. She will be reunited with her loving husband Frank, son Douglas, family members and friends that had predeceased her. She will forever be in the thoughts and memories of her loving family, Tommy (Sheila), Freddie (Norma), Madeline (Doug), Allan, Wayne (Nadine), Teddy (Carol) Ann, Dave (Glynis) Wampy, Patty, Kenny, Bobby, Joan. 34 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. ERICKSON, Agnes. March 19, 1910 - February 3rd, 2003. Agnes grew up on the prairies. Her great-grandparents emigrated to Canada from Ireland in 1820. Just after Confederation her grandparents moved from Ontario to Manitoba, a six month journey by oxcart and riverboat. They moved further west than any permanent settlers before them. Their lives, as well as that of dear departed Agnes, are a testament to all that is best in the Canadian character. Throughout her long life Agnes lived with the strength, courage and dignity that she had been taught as a child. Agnes was predeceased by her husband Ed in 1986. Survived by her daughter Lillian, son Eric (Anne), grandchildren Kris and Mark, and sisters Annie, Lily and Eunice. Service Friday, February 14th, 10:00 a.m., First Memorial Chapel, 602 Kingsway.
ABRAMSON, Marjory Dow. Passed away peacefully on March 28, 2003, in the Delta Hospital Extended Care in Ladner, B.C. Marjory was predeceased by her husband Jack and grandsons Niles and David. She will be lovingly remembered by sons Don (Leslie), Rikki (Jane); daughter Heather Lynn (Mike) Freeman, grandchildren Lisa, Shane (Megan), Araluen, Eugene, Drew, great-granddaughter Alexis, nephew Alan and niece Shirley Weber. Over the course of her 88 years, Marjory travelled in the footsteps of her Rotarian Father, James Davidson, on his extension of Rotary throughout the world. She was a founding member of Southlands Riding Club, President of Vancouver SPCA, President of The Zone Five Canadian Horse Shows Association, Member 1959 Canadian Pan American Games Committee, in charge of the Equestrian events. Marjory and Jack hosted many horse shows at their Maple Lane Stock Farms in Richmond, B.C. In her latter years she pursued her interest in Archeology and her artistic ability, becoming an avid Rockhound and Silversmith. She was an active member of the Richmond Gem and Mineral Club, The Creative Jewellers Guild of B.C., The Lapidary Society of B.C., The B.C. Gem Show, President and Life Member of the Gem and Mineral Federation of Canada. Marjory could often be found caring for her animals or in her garden enjoying her love of nature. ALLAN, Else Marie (nee Aasen, Turner) 1917- 2003. Passed away peacefully on March 23rd, 2003. Predeceased by Ron Turner and Randy Allan, she will be sorely missed by her sisters and brothers, Sonja Lewis, Laila Turtle, Leif Aasen and Gordon Aasen; daughter Linda Humber; son and daughter-in-law Gary and Denise Turner, step-daughter and husband Janice and Gordon Durocher; grand-children, Chris, Mike, Robert, Jordan, Dawn and Randy; plus many nieces, nephews and friends. Else was a loving person, the quintessential mother who cared for all who were near to her and, in turn, was loved dearly. She always kept a wonderful garden and enjoyed travelling, the out-of-doors, bridge and sharing her life with all of us. Our special thanks go to the staff at Surrey Memorial Hospital for their caring and compassion. BOSSLEY, Alexander George of Maple Ridge, B.C. born in Nelson, B.C. on April 2, 1923, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster on Thursday evening, March 27, 2003, just shy of his 80th birthday. Alex was predeceased by his loving wife Vivian and his sister Marion Whyte. He is survived by his daughters Sandra (John) Arrowsmith and Christine (Michael); son Geoff (Tina); grandchildren, Carlisle, Micah, Joel, Nathan and Elspeth Arrowsmith, Samantha and Alexa Bossley; and great-grandchildren Stryker and Braeden Arrowsmith. He is also survived by his sister Fran McDade and brother Ray (Gwen) Bossley and many well loved nieces and nephews. He was employed as a conductor with Canadian Pacific Railway and, upon retirement in 1983, was able to devote more time to his passion for golf, his love of gardening and many other activities too numerous to mention. Alex proudly served as a Flying Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion and the Air Crew Association. An exceptional man, he will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by family and friends. A Celebration of Alex's Life will be held on Wednesday, April 2 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John The Divine Anglican Church, 21299 River Road (River Road and Laity Street). DARLING, Dorothy, late of Gabriola Island, BC, born February 13, 1908 died peacefully at Nanaimo Hospital on March 20, 2003 at the age of 95. Dorothy never married and had no children of her own. She was, however the eldest of a family of 7 children and played a major role in the raising of her 4 sisters, Beatrice (Buds) Owen, Grace (Dede) Moss, Janet Withers, and Sheila Nelson, and her two brothers Nelson and William. Dorothy lived most of her life in Vancouver where she spent many years of joyous participation in the Little Theatre Company, working with her friends Dorothy Peck and Jessie Richardson. She was introduced to Gabriola Island as a summer home in 1914 and spent most of her summers there throughout her life. She retired to Gabriola in 1971 building a small home where she lived independently until just a few days before her death. Dorothy will be missed by her two surviving sisters, Janet Withers and Sheila Nelson. She will also be missed by the many nieces and nephews whose lives she touched. Among these were the children of her sister Beatrice, Michael (and his children Jacquie and Bridget), Barbara and Gerald Owen (and his children Tom and Alexis), the children of her sister Sheila Nelson (Douglas, Robert and Deborah Phippen) the daughter of her brother Nelson (Patti Meekison), and the step children of her sister Grace (Clare Peterson, David Moss and Marcia Hafner, and Anne Moss). In her later years Dorothy came to rely for her independence on the loving care of her niece Barbara Owen, her niece-in-law Terry Owen and the constant help of the Gabriola Homemakers Society. In her many roles as sister, aunt, great aunt, in-law and friend, she blotted many tears, changed many diapers and served as listening post to many generations of children. She was the eldest of the broader Darling clan which has adopted Gabriola Island as its home. This is the passing of a generation. Her warm, steady and generous spirit will be missed by her loving family and friends.

EDWARDS, Roland James "Rollie" Lt. Cdr. (Ret'd) - 83, passed away March 29, 2003, in Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Aldershot, England, he was a son of the late James and Gwendolyn Edwards. His father was a Canadian soldier who brought his family to Alberta in 1919. Rollie was predeceased by brother, William; sisters, Gwendolyn and Doreen. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Muriel C. James; sons, Barry, Brian, Toronto; David, Dartmouth. In 1937, the family moved to British Columbia and in 1941, Rollie joined R.C.N. After a career of 28 years he completed his working life in the Dockyard retiring in 1986 to enjoy golf, curling and travel. There will be no visitation. After cremation a Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in Christ Church, Dartmouth, Archdeacon Paul Smith officiating, followed by a reception in the church hall. A private interment will take place in St. John's Cemetery, Halifax. No flowers by request. Donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian Naval Memorial Trust (HMCS Sackville), The last Corvette - The Somme Branch Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 31, Kings Street, Dartmouth would be appreciated.
