REID - Douglas LeBaron. Passed away peacefully in Lions Gate Hospital on June 20, 1999. Born in Calgary in 1911 Doug moved to Vancouver in 1920. Doug attended UBC and was a Beta Theta Phi. Doug owned D.L. Reid Lumber in the late 40's and 50's when he was president of the B.C. Lumbermans Association. With great stamina and determination he continued lumber sales with Tyee and Keystone until last week. Doug and Betty (nee Whalley) have been happily married for 59 years. Doug is survived by wife Betty, son David (Martha), daughter Sydney (Ronald) Stagg and granddaughter Kirsten, sister-in-law Pat Whalley, nieces and nephews. On request there will be no service. SHAW - Arthur Victor (Vic). Passed away June 19, 1999 at 80 years of age. BROWN - Robert Wilfred (Bob). Passed away June 23, 1999 in Lions Gate Hospital after a brief but courageous struggle with heart disease. Bob was predeceased by his sister Betty Everest and is survived by his sister Isobel Jesson, his wife Toni, his daughters Catherine (Dan) and Andrea (Jim), his son Peter (Angela) and his grandchildren Michael, Rachel, Charlotte and Mark, Bob's many other relatives and friends will deeply miss him. Born in Lucknow, Ontario, Bob came to Vancouver in the 1940's. He became a teacher in the late 1950's and taught in North Vancouver for over 30 years. Bob was something of a fixture in North Vancouver where he served the community as a volunteer for the Red Cross, a member of the North Shore Historical Society, and a participant in other professional and community organizations. He always had a smile and a kind word for whomever he met, and his good humour and enthusiasm brought warmth and joy to many. Bob loved stories, and he will be lovingly remembered in the many stories he has left us. Much loved mother of John and Mary, grandmother of Mark and Kim, mother-in-law of Julie and we can't forget Ben who brought her so much joy. Private interment will be followed by a memorial service in Mary's garden at 3:00 p.m. Friday, June 18, 1999.
MANNS - Kathleen F. June 11, 1912 to June 13, 1999. Predeceased by her husband Andy 1982. She will always be remembered by her sons Perry (Loreen) and Lyle (Sharon); grandchildren Jack, Kathy, Cary, Vickie, Denise, Jeannine, Ken and Cory. Also 17 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. A resident of North Vancouver for 57 years, she had many friends. Her special friend and neighbour Helen Shook kept her busy and active until she moved to Lynn Valley Lodge. HUNTER - Ronald Rowat. Born March 23, 1926 in Rosetown, Sask. Died peacefully on June 12, 1999 at St Paul's Hospital. Ron is lovingly remembered by his family, wife Barbara; daughter Dianne Woodman (Gerry), grandchildren Jennifer and James; son Ron (Lorelei), grandchildren Michael and Christopher; stepdaughters Sandra Owens (Mike), grandchildren Lenny, Diane Muscroft (Greg), grandchildren Dan and Nicole; sister Frances Murton and brother Alder (Grace). Served in the Merchant Marine Service during W.W.II. After his service Ron had a varied professional life culminating in the Ownership and Presidency of A.E. Austin Real Estate Company and the B.C. Shakey Pizza Restaurants. Later in his career Ron was active in his own successful Mortgage Brokerage Business. Active in his community, Ron was a Mason and a Shriner, and was President of the B.C. Gymnastics Assoc., on the Vancouver Board of Variance and Chairman of the B.C. Dental Technicians Board. Also a member of the Terminal City Club, Hollyburn Country Club and the West Vancouver Yacht Club. Ron will always be remembered for his positive outlook on life and his "fantastic" sense of humor. Special thanks to the Hemo Dialysis units at St. Paul's Hospital and the Vancouver Community Dialysis Centre. Also, the Dr.'s and nursing staff at St. Paul's Hospital 6-C. SCOTT - Norman Leslie 1913-1999. Died peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital, early Sunday, June 13, 1999. Predeceased by his loving wife Elvira in 1996 and beloved son Dr. Richard Scott in 1989. Norman was known by friends and family for his wit and keen business sense. Venturing into his own business in the late forties and successfully retiring 20 years later. Never one to rest, Norman took on the job of selling Real Estate (Mitten Realty of North Vancouver) for another 10 years. Norman will be fondly remembered and always loved.
