PERRY, Mary Eilleen. Born in Aylmer, Quebec on December 29, 1911. Passed away peacefully in North Vancouver, B.C., Thursday May 18, 2000. Predeceased by her loving husband Archie. Survived by her children Paul, Barbara and Mike (Vicki); eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and by her sister Viola. No service by request. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation. First Memorial 980-3451

HAYNES - ROSS Born March 24, 1981, in Vancouver. Died accidentally on May 18, 2000. Ross will be greatly missed by his mother Joanne Gaucher, his father Charles Haynes, his sister Ashley, maternal grandparents Germain &Geneva, paternal grandparents Dorothy &Croft (deceased), aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. A part of Ross will stay with each and everyone who knew him, he had the courage to step out of the box and challenge the stories and oppressive ideas in our culture in his search for the truth. Service in his memory will be held on Thursday, May 25, 2000 at 1:00 p.m., Hollyburn Funeral Home, 18th and Marine Drive, West Vancouver. Those wishing to say a personal goodbye may do so from 12:00 p.m to 1:00 pm prior to the service. Burial by Ross's friends will occur after the service at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, 41st Ave. entrance. In lieu of Flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted by the Peak House Youth Center at 2427 Turner Street, Vancouver, B.C. V5K 2E7 A bright Light has been Lost.

SAXELBY - Jessie Elizabeth Mary (nee Kilroe). January 13, 1919 - May 19, 2000. Passed away after a brief illness at Lions Gate Hospital. Predeceased by husband Joseph and son Joseph Emil (Jay), and remembered by her sister Diane Opsahl, sons Jimmie, John (Donna) and daughter Elizabeth Sheppard (Donald) and grandchildren Brick, Donna-Lea and Teresa. Several nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Betty was born in Nanton, Alberta and was educated and grew up in the Calgary area. Joining her sister Diane in Noranda, Quebec, Betty met and married Joe. After the war the family located to West Vancouver in 1949. During her life she was active in the Overture Concert Society, West Van Boys and Girls Band, Meals on Wheels, Family Court and she was a Choir Member of the West Van Presbyterian Church for forty years. In latter years Betty took an active role in the family business, Saxelby Contracting. Funeral service will be held at West Vancouver Presbyterian Church, 2893 Marine Drive, on Thursday, May 25, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. Private family burial will follow at Capilano View Cemetery, West Vancouver. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Betty's memory to the Lions Gate Hospital. Many thanks to the paramedics, doctors, and the gentle care of the nurses on SCU 7. HUDSON - Vilma Alvera of North Vancouver, B.C. Passed away on May 29, 2000. Vilma was born in Sicamous, B.C. in 1921. She was predeceased by her husband, Lance, in 1995. The Hudsons used to be the proud owners and managers of the Gables (apartment building) on St. Georges St, North Vancouver. Vilma was a bridge player and an award-winning gardener, and will be missed by her close friends. No service by request.

WALKER - Frederick George. Died peacefully at the West Vancouver Care Home on May 30, 2000. Fred was born on December 12, 1905 in London, England and emigrated to Canada in 1948. Followed shortly thereafter by his family. He was highly regarded as a mechanical superintendant and construction supervisor. In later years he took a position as instructor at B.C.I.T. Burnaby. He was an avid gardener and loved his flowers. Predeceased by wife Emily, grandsons Adrian James and Adam Walker. Survived by sons Roland (Bertha), Graham (Anne), daughter Stella James (John), six grandchildren, Shannon Browne (Peter), Heather, Curtis, Desiree, Maria Walker, Derek James, two great-grandsons Pierson and Oliver Browne. Memorial services will be held Friday, June 9, 2000 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Catherine's Anglican Church, 1058 Ridgewood Dr, North Vancouver. Rev. John Mash officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Talking Book Division of the West Vancouver Memorial Library or Canadian Institute for the Blind greatly appreciated.

SCLATER - Lydia Bernice. April 14, 1906 - May 22, 2000. Predeceased by her husband James H. Sclater in 1968. Fondly remembered by her sister, Roberta Reilly and husband Stuart, daughter Shirley Mortell and husband Bruce, son Elliot Sclater and wife Alison, grandchildren Sandra Mowat and husband Dave, Barb Mortell and husband Ken Hatch, Jamie Sclater and Karen Sclater, also great-grandchildren Kiff, Cameron and Lindsay Mowat. Service to be held at Shaughnessy Heights United Church, 33rd Ave at Granville St, Vancouver on Monday, June 5, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. No flowers please.

NORDIN - Sarah Orlina, born May 1, 1979 in Calgary, Alberta. Died at age 21 on May 21, 2000 in a tragic car accident in Nova Scotia. Survived by her father Gary, mother Birgitte, brother Erik, and grandmother Herdis Tandy. At Cleveland and Hands-worth schools, she was a very active student involved in volleyball and the concert and jazz bands. Her friends talk of Sarah bringing grit, fight and heart to every game and the team could always count on her for positive energy. Outside of school she was part of the N.S. Cruisers competitive swimming and water polo teams. Sarah also sailed and skied with the Tyee Ski Club. Most of all she was an artist and a teacher. Art flowed from her in the form of poetry, paintings and sculptures and filled the margins of all her work. The last three years were divided between powder days at Whistler and art and human kinetic courses at U.B.C. She had a huge love of life; obstacles were inconveniences. Sarah's light shined so bright, the sparkle said "nothing's impossible." A memorial to be held on June 11, 2:00 pm, Highlands United Church, 3255 Edgemont Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations to Handsworth Secondary School, Art Dept.

SLADE - Reginald W. Passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital at the age of 84. Reg will be sadly missed by his loving wife and best friend of 57 years, Fran, his son David and wife Julie-Anne, daughter Janet and husband Rick Fee, his loving grandsons, Michael and Mark Heenan and Matthew Slade, his brother Cliff and many other relatives and friends. Reg was a devoted husband and a proud father and grandfather. His pleasures in life came from his family and he leaves loving memories for his family to cherish. Reg worked for Slade &Stewart Ltd., for 52 years and served as a director of the Canadian Fruit Wholesalers Association. He spent many enjoyable years in Penticton, B.C. before retiring as division manager in Vancouver in 1983. Since retiring, Reg enjoyed spending time on the golf course and in Sudden Valley and Hawaii. In recent years Reg loved to be with his family and watch his grandchildren grow up. Special thanks to Dr. Wayne Smith and the nurses at Lions Gate 7 East. A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 5, 2000 at 3:00 p.m. at West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Avenue, West Vancouver. HUNTER - Mavis (nee Delevante). Late of North Vancouver, Canada. Was taken to her heavenly home on Monday, April 24, 2000 while on vacation in Jamaica. She was born October 26, 1924. Mavis is greatly missed and dearly loved by siblings: Carmen and her husband Francis DeCasseres (JA.), Pearl Maleck-Evans (USA), Cynthia Shand (Canada) and Keith Delevante (USA); children: John Hunter, Loraine and husband Hans Pabst, Chiquita, Samuel and Joseph Hunter; grandchildren: Joanne Pilgrim-Adams, Lora, Theresa and Jacqueline Pabst, Chara Hunter, Dane Reiser and Alexander Coulltiere; great-granddaughter Bridgette Adams; numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Memorial service and reception for Mavis and her beloved sister Jan Bailey will be held at the Lynn Valley Full Gospel Church, 1160 E. 29th St, North Vancouver on Saturday, June 3, 2000 at 1:00 p.m. No floral tributes please. BAILEY - Janneth (nee Delevante, aka Stokell, Crawford). Late of Fayetteville, North Carolina, USA. Born January 17, 1931. Was taken to her heavenly home on Friday, February 18, 2000 while on vacation in North Vancouver, Canada. Our beloved Jan has been greatly missed by her husband Louis Bailey; siblings Carmen and her husband Francis DeCasseres (JA.), Mavis Hunter (Canada - now deceased), Pearl Maleck-Evans (USA), Cynthia Shand (Canada) and Keith Delevante (USA); children: Andrew Stokell, Donovan and wife Windsom Crawford, and David Crawford; grandchildren: Darren, and Shandre Crawford and Marissa Ferrer, Nicole Stokell; great-grandson Dalyn Ferrer, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Le GAULT - Rita (nee Martin). Passed away May 26, 2000 at the age of 92. She is predeceased by her husband Perry. Rita will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Arlene Smith; grandchildren Michael, Jamie Lynn and Blake; great-grand-children Kalum and Clayton Lauritzen; Cody and Savannah Smith; and her niece and companion Maureen Davidson. Service to be held at Boal Chapel, First Memorial Funeral Services 1505 Lilloooet Rd, North Vancouver on Wednesday, May 31, 2000 at 12 noon.

BASARAB - Helen Lorraine, of North Vancouver. Passed away at Evergreen Lodge on May, 26, 2000. Born in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan August 9, 1923. She was the eldest daughter of William and Mae Fysh. Lorraine is survived by her two sisters Wilma Costain and Beverley Sandercock; her loving husband Michael; her four sons Phil, Dana, Ron and Randy; her daughter Elizabeth Fraser; and her two grandchildren Michael and Catherine. Lorraine's loving care and devotion will always be remembered by her family and friends. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 1, 2000 at Boal Chapel, 1505 Lillooet Rd, North Vancouver between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at noon, Friday, June 2, 2000 at Boal Chapel. The family would like to thank Dr. Andrew Cheng and the staff of Evergreen House for their support over the past years. In lieu of flowers donations to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice would be greatlty appreciated. "May the Lord watch between me and thee while we are absent one from the other."

LASHLEY - Kenneth Harold. Passed away peacefully at his home in North Vancouver on May 24, 2000, with his family by his side, after a 16 month struggle with brain cancer. Predeceased by his father Harold in 1989. He is survived and will be deeply missed by his best friends; wife of 31 years Judy, daughter Shannon (Denis), son Dean (Jennifer), mother Ann, and brother Earl (Joanne). He also leaves his aunt Kath Baxter, nephew Bryan Lashley (Kirsty), niece Leanne Kehayas (John), cousins George Raga, Larry Mitchell, Bob Baxter Jr., Maureen Pickell, and many friends. Ken was born December 5, 1940 in Port Alberni, B.C. At the age of 18 he ventured over to Vancouver in search of a career. By 1967 Ken had joined BC Hydro's Properties Division, where he worked happily for 33 years, spreading his kindness and dry wit throughout the organization. He always spoke fondly of his many friends at Hydro, whose thoughtfulness throughout his illness was greatly appreciated. Though Ken enjoyed his work, the two great loves of his life, in no particular order, were his family and tennis. When he wasn't at work or with his family, he could be found on the Grand Boulevard tennis courts, taking great joy in defeating players half his age. Ken was always happiest at home, and his constant singing, amazing sense of humour, and unconditional love and support made home a wonderful place to be. Ken will be missed by all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. A memorial service celebrating Ken's life will be held at the Boal Chapel of First Memorial Funeral Services, 1505 Lillooet Rd, North Vancouver on Saturday, June 3, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.

MUEHLCHEN - Gunter, age 73 years, of North Vancouver. Passed away suddenly May 26, 2000. Gunter is survived by his loving wife, children and their families. No service by request. HEATHERINGTON - Edna. Passed away May 25, 2000 at Inglewood Care Centre in West Vancouver on her 79th birthday, after a lengthy and difficult struggle with Alzheimer's Disease. She was born in England and emigrated to Canada as a child. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 57 years, Harold; her daughter and son-in-law Karen and Michael Phillips and her daughter and son-in-law Arlene and Les Price. Nanna will also be greatly missed by her grandchildren Robert (Kristin) and Debra, as well as her great-grand-daughter Kaitlyn. Edna also leaves her brothers Aaron (Donna) and John (Alice), many nieces and nephews, and "Peaches". The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to everyone who has lovingly cared for Edna over the past year including all the staff at Lions Gate Hospital, Cedarview Lodge and Inglewood Care Centre. A special thank-you to Thelma Schrader for all the support and guidance given to the family during this very difficult time. DEAN, Eleanor Burton On May 4, 2000 at Evergreen House where she had resided for 11 years. Born Lancaster, England, November 7, 1894. Eleanor experienced throughout the three centuries of her life a wealth of advances and improvements to our society. Before automobiles, she toured England with a Cycling Club. She toured the Titanic at Southampton before its maiden voyage to New York. Following the First World War, Eleanor and her sisters emigrated to Victoria. In 1965 at the age of 71, she retired from the Security and Intelligence Branch of the R.C.M.P. Predeceased by her husbands Bruce Burton and Sidney Dean and son Gerald. Survived by sons Reginald of Tustin, Ca. and William of Bellingham, Wa, nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Eleanor enjoyed wonderful care at Evergreen House 2 North by Dr. Michael Knight and all members of the staff under head nurse Victoria McCandry. Loving care was provided by Ines Marining whom Eleanor met early at Evergreen and the two became lasting friends. Personal care was also extended by Cathy Shorten and others. A private memorial was held in Bellingham.

HARVEY - William "Bill". Born December 27, 1905 in London, England. Passed away peacefully at Lynn Valley Private Hospital on June 7, 2000. He was pre-deceased by his loving wife, Marjorie, in 1989. William will be sadly missed by his sons Tony (Rosetta) and John (Charmaine); grandchildren Jeff (Candy), Susan (Walt) and Rebecca; great-grandchildren Dustyn, Brianna and Travis; as well as many friends. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Hollyburn Funeral Home, 1807 Marine Drive, West Vancouver on Monday, June 12, 2000 from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm.
