Taylor, Patty
Patricia (Patty) Alice Taylor (nee Konschuh ) a resident of Creston, B.C. passed away , with her husband by her side, at the Boundary Kootenay Regional Hospital, Trail, B.C. on Wednesday November 25th 2009, ten weeks after being diagnosed with lung cancer.
Patty was born on April 8, 1956 at Trail, B.C. to Ethel and Ben Konschuh and received her education in the Trail area, graduating from J.L. Crowe in 1973. She married Warren Taylor on April 14th, 1984 in Surrey, B.C. and born to the young couple son Daniel and daughter Jessica.
She was a member of the Creston Golf Club and Creston Curling Club. Patty was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and camping. She possessed a great sense of humour and her greatest love was her family including her dog, Abby.
She was predeceased by her parents Ethel and Ben Konschuh of Montrose, B.C. and nephew Eli Konschuh of Fruitvale, B.C.
Patty will be sadly missed by her husband Warren, son Daniel, daughter Jessica and their partners Brittney and Matthew, her brothers Neil ( Bev ) Konschuh, Erle ( Terry ) Konschuh, sisters Nancy ( Dennis ) Blatchford and Norma ( Norman ) Main, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
The Memorial Service is to be held on Saturday December 5th, 2009 at 2:00 pm at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Creston, B.C., with Pastor Harry Haberstock officiating. Interment of Ashes to take place at the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Erickson, B.C.
Van Wageningen, Bert
Bert Wageningen passed away after a brief battle with cancer on November 14, 2009 in Creston, B.C. at the age of 76 years.
Bert was born on October 3, 1933 to parents Matthijs and Antje Van Wageningen in Alphen aan den Rijn, Holland. He received his education in Holland and then immigrated to Canada in 1952. The plane arrived in Gander, Nfld. Shortly thereafter Bert moved to Northern Alberta where he worked on a farm until the mid 1950’s. He then moved to the coast where he worked for B.C. Hydro until his retirement in 1992. Most of his employment with B.C. Hydro was at the Duncan Dam in Meadow Creek, B.C. as a foreman.
Bert was involved with several organizations within the Creston Valley. His passion for gardening was his biggest hobby and he also enjoyed helping others.
Bert was predeceased by his parents Matthijs and Antje Van Wageningen and one grandson, Kevin Campbell.
He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Linda (Gene) LeBlanc, Brenda Campbell, grandson Christopher Campbell, ex- wife Dorothy, sisters Thoos (Harmen), Gerta, Helena and Marie, and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and in the Netherlands.
A Celebration of Life Service to be held in the spring time with the date and place to be announced.

Louie, Isabel
Isabel Louie passed away on December 25, 2009 at her residence on the Lower Kootenay Reserve at the age of 86 years.
Isabel was born on October 29, 1923 on the Lower Kootenay Reserve and she received her education at St. Eugene’s Residential School.
Isabel lived her entire life in the Creston Valley on the Lower Kootenay Reserve. She was a treasured elder of the community and will be truly missed. She spoke the Ktunaxa language daily and was a master canoe maker. She also believed and practiced the old ways of the Lower Kootenay people.
In her younger years, Isabel was a midwife for the community and delivered many babies throughout her life. She loved babies, and they loved her too. She also loved animals, especially the wild ones and she adopted her dog, cats, deer and bears. Isabel had a passion for gardening and gambling.
Isabel was predeceased by her husband Lazarus and her sister Agatha.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sister, Louise Abraham, her children, Robert Louie, Joan Louie, Wayne Louie and Carol Louie, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
A Traditional Service was held on Monday December 28, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the Lower Kootenay Band Complex with Mike Kenmille officiating. Interment followed at St. Peter’s Cemetery, Lower Kootenay Band, Creston, B.C.
Streich, Harold L.
Harold Lewis Streich passed away on December 18, 2009 in the Creston Valley Hospital at the age of 85 years.
Harold was born on September 17, 1924 in St. Joseph Michigan, USA to parents Helen and Otto Streich. They came to Canada in 1937 and settled in Leroy, Saskatchewan district where Harold finished his schooling and took over farming from his father.
Later on, he married Gladys and moved to Saskatoon where he took a position as a janitor at the University Center. After retiring, they moved to Creston, B.C.
Harold had a number of hobbies on the go from doing small carpenter jobs and listening to his music, to teaching with his brothers and sisters at the Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation.
Harold will be sadly missed by his niece Delores Stushnoff (John) Yuzik and nephew Dwayne Stushnoff.
Harold Streich will be laid to rest next to his wife Gladys and his mother and father at Leroy, Saskatchewan at a later date.
Werner, Neil
Neil Werner passed away December 18, 2009 at the age of 63 years. He was born in Broughton England to parents Jack and May Werner. At a young age Neil immigrated with his family to Meadow Lake Sask. From there the family moved to Creston B.C. in 1951. Neil received his education in Creston B.C.
He was employed by OK Tire, Valley Automotive, Creston Valley Hotel and by farms in the Creston Valley including Piper Farms, Swan Valley Foods and Christenson Brothers where he worked for 24 years.
Neil enjoyed spending time in his boat on Kootenay Lake and staying at his beloved cabin at Tye.
Neil was predeceased by his parents Jack and May Werner. He is survived by his brother Lorne, sisters Vanda (Mark), Dina (Carl), nieces Lesa, Paige, Kelsey Sophie, nephew Sam, cousins Helen (David), Christine (Todd) and numerous great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Neil’s life will be held this summer at Tye. Date and time will be announced.
Langevin, Gerard
Gerard Langevin passed away after a short battle with cancer on November 1, 2009 in Cranbrook, B.C. at the age of 65 years.
Gerard was born in Lac La Biche, AB on January 22, 1944 to parents Renee and Francoise Langevin. He was raised in Lac La Biche, AB, attended meteorological college in Ottawa and worked for Environment Canada until his retirement in 1995. Gerard spent the last four years in Creston enjoying his retirement. Gerard was an accomplished Artist, Musician, Painter and Writer. As an excellent craftsman, he found joy in violin making and carpentry. Spending time with his family and friends gave him great pleasure.
Gerard was predeceased by his father Renee Langevinn and his mother Francoise Langevin. He will be forever remembered by his wife Brigitte, children Theresa (Craig) Steinbach, Christina (Carleton) Kennedy, Maureen (Bruce) Dreany, step-sons Fawad and Zaheer Ahmad, as well as 10 grandchildren.
The funeral service was held at the Holy Cross Catholic Church on November 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Francis de la Cruz officiating. Interment followed the service at the Forest Lawn Cemetery in Erickson, B.C.

Garvin, Dora
On Nov. 7, 2009, Dora Garvin passed away in comfort with family by her bedside at the Creston Hospital. She had resided at Crest View Care Village for the last few of the 91 + years of her life. Although she was born in the Dornach Hospital on Sept. 18, 1918, her family lived in the village of Elgin, Scotland. They immigrated to Canada on the S.S. Regina and arrived in Halifax on April 10, 1918.
The family took up a homestead in Balzac, Alberta where the parents, George and Annie Wilson farmed while raising six of their eight children. Dora was educated in the country school where she competed in baseball and traveled the countryside singing with her sister.
She moved to Calgary after graduation working as a shopkeeper.
There she married her first husband, Edward (Ted) McDonald on April 24, 1939, just prior to the outbreak of WW II. Ted took leave from his duties as a city policeman to join the army and served overseas in the Provost Corps. Dora moved to several different areas while raising two sons and a daughter. After the war, Ted resumed his duties as a Calgary policeman. In 1950, Ted joined the air force and the family moved to a military base near Rivers, Manitoba where Dora again worked as a shopkeeper.
Returning to Calgary in 1955, the kids completed their education while Mom and Dad pursued their careers as a shopkeeper and public servant respectively. Sadly, Ted died from diabetes at the age of 52 on April 1, 1969. Mom found solace from her grief by taking a solo trip back to her birthplace and other countries in Europe. In 1970 she met and married a wonderful man, John Garvin and they spent the next 5 years in Terrace Bay, Ontario. There they enjoyed golfing, bowling, curling, fishing and dancing in their leisure time while John finished his career with the local pulpmill.
In retirement, they moved to Summerland, B.C. and subsequently to Penticton where they continued to enjoy their recreational activities
And travel throughout western Canada and the USA. visiting their many friends and family. Sadly, Dora lost her daughter Lynn (Calnan) to diabetes and cancer on Feb. 21, 1992 and her husband John on Sept. 9,2002. She moved two years later to Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie and then to Crest View Care Village in Creston in Oct. 2005. There, she continued to actively enjoy playing cards, pool, bingo, knitting sweaters, reading, exploring the Creston Valley and visiting with friends and family.
Dora was pre-deceased by her parents, all her sisters and brothers and those previously mentioned. She is lovingly survived by her sons Bill (Laurie) McDonald of Calgary, Dennis (Arleane) McDonald of Creston and stepson Bill (Christine) Garvin of Winnipeg, 7 grandchildren; Darcy, Siobhan, Leslie, Susan, Bruce, Melissa and Allison; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial tribute will be held in the Village Square social room on the ground floor, Crest View Care Village, 800 Cavell St. Creston from 1:30-4:00 PM, Sunday Dec. 7. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in her memory.
