Good, Margaret (Bette)

Margaret (Bette) Good (nee Peterman) passed away on October 10, 2009 after a short illness at the age of 88 years.

Margaret was born on May 19, 1921 in Creston, B.C. At the time of her birth her family was living in Kitchener and moved to Aldridge, at the southern tip of Moyie Lake, when she was 2. Her dad worked as a section foreman for the CPR and they lived in the station house there. When Margaret was 9 the family moved to Cranbrook and in 1936 they returned to Creston at the opening of the new consolidated school.

Margaret graduated from high school in Creston and in 1947 she married Henry Good and moved to the family farm in Riverview where she lived until she moved to Swan Valley Lodge two and a half years ago.

Besides keeping a huge garden, sewing for her family, and feeding the haying crews in the summer she led the neighbourhood girls in a Happy Times Club taking them swimming in the Goat River and teaching them about wild birds, plants, insects and nature that she loved so much.

Margaret was a member of the Church of Christ and her faith was dear to her.

Margaret was predeceased by her parents, Henry and Minnie Peterman, and by her beloved husband, Henry Good, in 1989.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters Nora (James) McDowell of Creston and grandson Larry (Lisa), and Eileen (John) Haskins of Kelowna and grandsons Ian, Neil, Stuart, and Kevin, as well as by her brother David Peterman and sisters-in-law Mathilde Phypers and Lorine Morton and brother-in-law Tom (Babs) Good and numerous nieces and nephews.

We wish to thank all those who cared for Margaret over the years: Dr. Troughten, the workers from Home Support, her caregivers from Swan Valley Lodge where she was so happy, and her extended family, especially her nephew David Phypers who faithfully saw to her spiritual needs.

In the spring when the flowers are blooming her family will hold a celebration of Margaret’s life: time, date and place to be announced.

Friends wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the

Creston Valley Wildlife Management, Box 640, Creston, B.C. V0B 1G0.
