Mrs. Rose Eberts
August 3, 1917 - June 23, 2007
Rose was born at home on the farm near Wheatsone, about 90 miles from Regina, Saskatchewan.
She was the second daughter of Marcu Lucescu and Todosia (Celia) Prepchuk.
Rose attended Claudia School until it burned down and then went to Wheatstone School for a few years.
As was the custom in earlier times on the farm, she helped with chores such as milking cows and feeding the chickens.
She attended grade school until grade 6 at which time she was 'lent' out to work at another farm.
Later she moved to Regina where she found waitressing jobs at the Gem, Plaza and the St. Regis Hotel Cafe.
Before she got married and moved to Cranbrook she also worked as a chambermaid at the St. Regis, laundress in the basement of the Marina Cafe, waitress and kitchen staff at the Air Force Training School, laundress at the Rainbow Laundry.
She enjoyed music and frequently would go out to town dances with family and friends.
Rose moved to Cranbrook, BC in 1951 where she married John Eberts.
It was in Cranbrook that her only child, Roberta, was born.
She had no hobbies and spent all her time on housework, looking after Roberta, and watching TV.
Once in awhile Rose and John would join some friends for social gatherings.
Rose's husband, John passed away in October, 1983.
Roberta's job with BC Tel brought her to Richmond in 1986 and Rose moved here to be close to her.
In the beginning she moved in with her sister and nephew but later moved to her own suite in Roberta and Joyce's house.
She remained there until her fall that broke her hip.
By then her dementia had progressed to the point that she was not able to re-learn to walk and she was placed in Minoru Residence.
Although Rose did not remember much of her past, she enjoyed listening to music and her visits from her daughter Roberta, her sister and nephew Millie & Marcel Materi, and family friend, Joyce Magee.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Roberta; her sisters, Millie Materia (from Richmond, BC) and Florence Fluter (from Welland, Ontario); her brother David Lucescu (from Welland, Ontario); her nephew, Marcel Materia (from Richmond, BC); and numerous other nieces and nephews throughout Canada.
Rose is predeceased by her parents Celia and Marcu Lucescu, her brothers John & Bill Lucescu, and sisters Helen Eberts, Isabelle Neamtz, and Anne Lucescu.
