Katherine Chrusciel
Peacefully, on Saturday, August 14, 2004, at the Portage District General Hospital, Katherine Chrusciel, of Oakville, widow of the late Albert Chrusciel passed away at the age of 90 years.
Prayers will be held in the chapel of the Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie, on Tuesday evening at 7:00 PM.
Funeral service will be held in St Mary's Catholic Church, Elm Creek, Manitoba, on Wednesday, August 18, 2004, at 2:00 PM with the Reverend Father Ed Kosa officiating.
Interment will follow in the family plot at Elm Creek Cemetery.
Katherine was born on May 11, 1914 in Poland. She lived her childhood in Poland then France during the time surrounding WWII.
She arrived in Canada in March of 1949 living in Esterhazy Saskatchewan where she lived with her Aunt Stella and Uncle Peter.
On January 28, 1950, she married Albert Chrusciel, and together they farmed near Oakville, Manitoba, where she resided until her passing.
She was a very hard worker on the farm especially in the early years, actively helping out with the livestock, the haying and the grain, or whatever needed to be done.
Katherine was a fabulous cook, famous for her homemade soups, and roast beef dinners.
Everyone including visitors or workers did not leave the table hungry.
She was an avid gardener, taking pride in her large vegetable garden often having the first and largest potatoes, tomatoes, cucumbers etc, before anyone else did.
As a result of this, she also did a lot of freezing and canning. She also enjoyed knitting and sewing.
She was a member of the St Mary’s Roman Catholic Church in Elm Creek for over 50 years.
Predeceased by her parents, her husband Albert in 1970, infant daughter in 1952, brother Stanley, Sister Maria, and her special Aunt and Uncle.
She leaves to mourn her passing her son Joseph of Oakville, Manitoba, her sister-in-law Nancy, her nieces Helen, Josephine, Evelyn, her cousins Mary, Stan, Ed, Nellie, Stella, Josephine, Marge, Georgina, and by other members of the Maga Family.

Jean Boyachek
Peacefully, on Thursday, September 16, 2004, at the Lions Prairie Manor, Jean Boyachek, of Portage la Prairie, widow of the late Peter Boyachek passed away at the age of 94 years.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2004 in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie, Manitoba at 1:30 P.M. with the Reverend Ross Taylor officiating.
Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Jean was born on February 6, 1910, daughter of Klemintine and Alex Koverzin at Pine River, where she was raised and received her education.
In 1932 she married her husband Peter and they farmed in the Ridge Road district until his passing 1988.
In 1990 she moved to Portage to reside at the Oak Tree Towers and later to the Lions Prairie Manor.
Jean’s many interests included sewing, knitting, crocheting, flowers and gardening.
She enjoyed cooking meals for special occasions.
Her special times were spent with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She had a generous heart and soul, with a special gift of being a good listener to family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter of 56 years, infant son David, sister Teenie Tycholaz, brother Dan Koverzin and great grandson Sean Adamski.
Jean will be lovingly remembered by her five sons, Ron (Lil) of Sylvan Lake, AB, Max (Pat) of London, ON, Ted (Lydia) of Sioux Narrows, ON, Ed (Isabel) and Alfred (Linda) of Portage la Prairie MB, 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Also surviving are one sister Frances Perche of Dauphin, MB, sisters-in-law Mary-Jane Boyachek, Donna Boyachek and Edith Koverzin.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at the Lions Prairie Manor and to Dr. Hedden for their many years of unfailing care and kindness.
Friends may call at the funeral home for visitation on Monday evening, September 20, 2004 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M..

Herman Melvin Black
On Saturday, August 21, 2004 at the Lions Prairie Manor, Herman Melvin Black of the Lions Prairie Manor and formerly of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away at the age of 87 years.
A Graveside service will be held at the Riverside Cemetery, Dauphin, Manitoba on Thursday, August 26th, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. with the Reverend Paul Crossland officiating.
Herman was born in Kakinak, Manitoba to Carl and Grace Black on February 19, 1917.
He lived all of his life in Dauphin and moved to the Lions Prairie Manor, Portage la Prairie in August of 2000 where he resided until his passing.
He worked in the Dairy Industry, working for Cruise Dairies and later Manco Dairies.
Predeceased by his parents and one brother: Reg.
He leaves to mourn his passing his one son: Terry (Grace) and grandchildren: Chancy and Wraylyn all of Portage, one daughter: Shirley (Alan) Mazure and grandchildren: Kevin, Darren, Alison and Shaun all of Canmore, Alberta and three great grandchildren.
Also surviving is one brother: Harold (Phyllis) of Brandon, MB. and the mother of his children: Gerty Black of Portage la Prairie.

MARY ISABEL ALFORD
Peacefully on Friday, September 10, 2004 at the Portage District General Hospital, Mary I. Alford of Portage la Prairie and formerly of Oakville, beloved widow of the late Bob Alford, passed away at the age of 83 years.
Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. with the Rev. Ross Taylor officiating.
Interment will follow in Oakville Cemetery.
Mary was born on October 8, 1920 in Portage la Prairie to William and Elizabeth Bodie.
She was raised and received her education in the Bagot area.
In 1939 she met Bob Alford while working at Ingrams providing childcare.
On July 14, 1940 Bob and Mary were married.
They farmed south east of Oakville, and raised four sons. On October 6, 1969 Bob passed away.
In 1972 her daughter-in-law Verna passed away and in 1973 Mary decided to move away from the farm into Portage la Prairie to help her son Blaine raise his two girls Nicole and Michelle.
Mary loved her flower garden, dancing, curling, figure skating, playing cards and visiting with friends and family.
In her later years she kept active with bowling and golfing.
She belonged to both of the United Churches in Oakville and Portage.
Mary was involved for many years with the Royal Purple Lodge and acted as Honorary Lady.
She was very proud and supportive of her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and was always there to help out when needed.
Mary always looked forward to family gatherings and letters from those who lived away.
She was a great cook but she was best known for her baking – nothing like grandma’s scones and chocolate chip cookies!
Predeceased by her parents, husband Bob, daughter-in-law Verna, brothers Bill and Jack Bodie, sisters Mable Tarr and Helen Dahl, sisters-in-law Peg Battershill and Marie Salway and brothers-in-law Mac and Pal .
She leaves to mourn her passing her four sons, Blaine (Phyllis) of Portage, Jim (Ellem) of Duncan, B.C., Bill (Lynne) of Oakville, and Ken (Janis) of Kamloops, B.C., grandchildren and great-grandchildren Nicole (Lorne) Park, Michelle (Mark) Moon (Alyssa and Brendan), Robert Alford, Melissa Alford, Trina Alford (Alexa and Amy), Bill Alford Jr.(Paisley and Liberty), Ian (Keri) Alford (Jessica and Owen), Brett Alford, Christine (Tim) Garnham (Teaghen), Walter Matheson (Rebecca and Jerad) and Harvey Matheson (Jordan), sister Margaret Landers, sisters-in-law Edna Clarke, Shirley Alford, and Florence Bodie, brothers-in-law Dar (Marie) Alford, Ed Salway, and Jim Battershill, and several nieces and nephews.

Eva Bess Turko
On Friday, April 1, 2005, at her residence, Eva Bess Turko, of Alonsa, widow of the late John Turko passed away at the age of 91 years.
Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at 2 PM with Phyllis Thordarson officiating.
Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
Eva was born on February 15, 1914 at Alonsa, Manitoba, on of eight children born to John and Rose Glowa.
She was raised and received her education in the Plumas district.
In 1937 she married John Turko at Trinity United Church in Portage la Prairie.
They farmed in the Alonsa district from 1937 to 1962 when they purchased a store in Alonsa.
They operated the store for 20 years until John’s passing in 1982.
Eva retired in 1983 and lived with her daughter Janet until her passing.
She was very active in the United Church serving as an elder until she was unable to attend.
Her life centered around her family and friends.
She loved her flower and vegetable garden and there weren’t too many flowers she didn’t grow.
Predeceased by her husband John in 1982, one son James in 1938, one sister Pauline Benedictson in 1991, she leaves to mourn her passing her son Robert (Fern) of Portage la Prairie, her daughter Janet McKay of Alonsa, and three grandchildren, Jeffery, Darcy (Nici) And Nicole (Joe), also two great grandchildren Ethan & Samantha. Also surviving are 2 brothers Fred (Marguerite) Glowa and Alex (Ethel) Glowa, and four sisters Sally Glowa, Julia Gommer, Mary Wilcox, Kay Ander, and several nieces and nephews.
As we remember Mom and her contribution to life, let us be thankful for all the years she gave us and let us pray that she has found everlasting peace and joy.
Our prayers are also with those who knew her as friends.

Curtis James Windsor
On Sunday, April 30, 2006 at Bassano, AB, Curtis Windsor of Calgary, Alberta formerly of Rivers, Manitoba and Dakota Plains, Manitoba, beloved son of Les and Diane Windsor passed away at the age of 23 years.
Funeral service will be held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home, on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 1:30 P.M. with the Reverend Ross Taylor officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Dakota Plains Cemetery followed by lunch in the auditorium of the Trinity United Church.
Curtis was born on March 12, 1983 in Portage la Prairie, MB.
He received his early education in Dakota Plains, Portage and Brandon.
He moved with his family to Rivers, MB. and continued his education and graduated with honors, receiving numerous awards and scholarships.
Upon graduation, at the age of 17 years, he moved to Calgary to attend the University of Calgary.
He was very involved with the INDIGENOUS CENTRE, and was the spokes person.
Curtis was coming home to visit family during Spring break when he passed away.
He only had 2 courses to complete to attain his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Drama.
Curtis loved music and was teaching himself how to play the guitar.
He kept himself fit by jogging and weight lifting every day.
Curtis was a friendly, out going person and found friends anywhere he went.
Predeceased by his Grandpa; Norman Bell, Grandma’s; Elsie Bell and Marjorie Windsor and nephew; Christopher Keithan Windsor.
He leaves to mourn his passing his parents; Les and Diane Windsor, his brother; Christopher (Tera), sister; Courtney, all of Rivers, MB. grandpa; Joe Windsor of Poplar Point, great-aunt; Ella Bell of Winnipeg, two nieces; Tory and Elicia and several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Agnes Wendt
Peacefully, with family at her side, on Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Portage District General Hospital, Agnes Wendt, of Portage la Prairie, widow of the late George Wendt passed away at the age of 84 years.
A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at 1:30 PM.
Friends are invited to meet at the Omega Fuenral Home and we will proceed from there.
Agnes was born on October 13, 1921, daughter of Justina and David Martens at Plum Coulee, Manitoba where she was raised and received her education.
In 1940 she married George Wendt and they lived in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba.
She was employed in the Laundry Department of the Portage General Hospital for 23 years.
Agnes was a member of the Church of Christ in Portage la Prairie.
She was a great seamstress and enjoyed sewing for her family.
Her family and her work were the most important part of her life.
Predeceased by her husband George in 1984, son Jimmie in 1976, 9 brothers, 2 sisters she leaves to mourn her passing her son David (Noni) of Portage la Prairie, grandchildren Annalise and Aynsley, her daughter Carol Swetz of Portage la Prairie, grandchildren Kyndra, Kara and Krista.
Also surviving are one brother John (Ellen) of Portage, two sisters Christine Zdan of Portage, and Mary Simpson of Vancouver, BC, and many nieces and nephews.
