Anne Margaret Baschak
With sadness, the family of Anne Baschak announces her passing on February 2, 2014 at the age of 81. She will be dearly missed by her husband Anthony (Tony) Baschak and her only child, Lawrence. Anne will also be mourned by her daughter-in-law Ingrid, and her two grand-children Katherine and James who know her as Nana. She is survived by her sister Mary Anne Olinyk (Ernest) Surrey, BC and her brother Brownie Kafara (Mary), Red Deer, Alberta. She is predeceased by her parents and her siblings: Pauline Hertz, Joseph, Walter, Carl, Caroline Zabrodski and Jesse and numerous sister and brother in-laws. She will be missed by numerous relatives and dear friends.
Anne Margaret Baschak was born December 8, 1932 in Renwer, Manitoba, sixth child of Victoria (nee Saroka) and John Kafara. After completing grade 8, she worked in various hotels and stores in Winnipeg and Dauphin. She met Tony at her brother’s wedding and they married in Dauphin, Manitoba on April 11, 1953 at Saint Viator’s Roman Catholic Church. They lived on the family farm for seven years before moving into Pine River where they built a new home with an attached post office. Anne was part-time assistance at the Pine River Post Office until 1984, when she was appointed post master. At her retirement she received a plaque with gratitude for 37 years of service.
One of her passions was gardening and she kept both a large vegetable garden and flower garden. Delphiniums, lilies, petunias and geraniums were her favourite flowers. The flower garden was admired by many and she once counted over a hundred wedding parties that used her garden as a setting for their wedding photos. Her album of weddings was a cherished keepsake.
Anne’s Christian faith was deeply important to her and she was actively involved with her church, supporting it at every opportunity. Her community of friends also meant so much to her. Heading to bingo was a favourite past time. For the past 10 years, she was involved with the Pine River Singers. This gave her great pleasure. She would tell us about standing ovations, a CD recording, the companionship of the choir and the beautiful songs. Anne had a compassionate heart and her kindness, generosity and beautiful garden will be greatly missed.
Interment in the Birchwood Cemetery, Swan River.
