Carl Jonas Olson
On March 9, 2009, Carl Jonas Olson, beloved husband of Gene Stratton-Porter Olson, passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg. Carl was born in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, on January 10, 1919, the third child of the Rev. Carl J. Olson (1884-1951) and Olöf Sveinfrίδur (Freda) Sveinsson (1890-1925). His childhood and youth were spent in Saltcoats, Lancer, Weyburn, and Wynyard, Saskatchewan; Brandon and Winnipeg, Manitoba; and Seattle, Washington. Carl graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in Winnipeg. In December 1941, he enlisted in the RCNVR as a seaman, training in Toronto and Halifax on HMCS York and HMCS Cornwallis. He was sent overseas in October 1942 on HMCS Baddeck, serving in the Mediterranean and North African campaign (November 1942-March 1943), the North Atlantic (April 1943-March 1944), and in the English Channel, France, Belgium, and Holland (April 1944-May 1945). He was discharged on October 10, 1945. Upon returning to Winnipeg, Carl attended the University of Manitoba (where he later, in the 1960s, resumed his studies). He then began a 40-year career at Moore Business Forms, finally retiring at the age of 70. After retiring, Carl continued his studies at the University of Winnipeg, taking seniors’ classes in religion, literature, history, and political studies.
In addition to his parents, Carl was predeceased by his sister Katrίn Margaret Olson (1914-1986) and his brother, Gisli Robert Olson (1922-2000). He is survived by his wife, Gene; his sister Ingibjorg Lillian Lane of Brockville, Ontario; and his daughters and their families. Carl was a quiet, gentle person with a passion for poetry, books, and learning. He will be remembered with love and thankfulness.
Rose Meinhart

Heaven has another angel, our loving mother, Rose Meinhart, passed away at Maples Personal Care Home.
Rose will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her daughters Alice (Ernest) Leiper, Margaret Proulx; son Walter Meinhart; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brother Harold (Ann) Mauthe; sister-in-law Bernice Laudin. She was pre-deceased by husband Walter; grandson Ralph; brother Bobby Mauthe.
Rose will be remembered as a loyal and caring mother and grandmother who enjoyed family get-togethers. Her interests surrounded flowers, gardening, traveling and her bird, Blue Boy. She was a long time member of the Grace Lutheran Church.

Lui (Chung Kay) Lim
Peacefully on February 27, 2009 at Grace Hospital, Lui (Chung Kay) Lim passed away at the age of 86 years. Chung Kay was a compassionate woman and her beautiful smile will be remembered forever.
Predeceased by her parents and husband Jack Lim, she lost her two brothers during the Second World War. Kay is survived by her sister Peggy Yee and family in the USA; stepson George, wife Norma and 3 grandchildren in Texas, USA.
Born May 4, 1925 in Taishan, China, her family moved to Hong Kong when she was small moving back to Taishan during WWII. After the war, she returned to Hong Kong immigrating to Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1964. Kay worked in the garment industry for many years in Hong Kong and Canada until she retired in 1988.
The family would like thank the wonderful staff at the Grace Hospital’s 5th Floor for their kindness and exceptional care of the late Mrs. Lui Lim.
Viewing will take place at Bardal Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 11, 2009 from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Funeral service 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 12, 2009 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg. Interment Brookside Cemetery.

Jean Whibley
Peacefully on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, Jean Whibley, age 83 years, passed away at the Poseidon Care Centre.
Jean will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 36 years William; sister Marian Mackenzie; and brothers Tom and Fred Talarico. She was a special auntie to her girls Shauna (Todd) Sykes; Sheila (Bill) Boyd and a great aunt to Krissy Boyd.
She was predeceased by her sisters Margaret Rossnagel and Vicky Wilson.
She lived all of her life in the West End and her working career was spent with the Federal Government.
Jean was an active person enjoying sports, especially golf at Pine Ridge Golf Club. Here she met and married William, the golf pro and the love of her life. They retired early and enjoyed many winters in Texas together.
Special thanks to all of the nurses and staff at Poseidon Care Centre, 2nd Floor, who lovingly cared for our aunt.
Jean will be laid to rest at Assumption Cemetery beside her parents John and Kathleen (Katie) Talarico on Monday, March 9, 2009 10:30am. Those wishing to attend the graveside service may meet at the entrance of Assumption Cemetery, 3390 Portage Avenue, Winnipeg.
Marie Giesbrecht
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Marie Giesbrecht at the Concordia Hospital on February 10, 2009.
Mum was born on July 30, 1924 in London, England. She married the love of her life on March 26, 1945 and spent the next glorious 63+ years with her soul mate. Marie is survived by her husband Bill; daughters Sharon and Adrianne; and son-in-law Brian.
Mum was an active member of Grey Street United Church UCW. She enjoyed traveling to Brandon for the War Brides Reunion every year as well as trips to Hawaii and to see her family in England.
Music and dance brought mum and dad together and their music will live on in the hearts of all who had the pleasure to be a part of their lives. Her smile and sense of humour always brought sunshine in our lives. Mum will be sadly missed but she will live on through the laughter and wisdom that is shared through the memories of her life.
Memorial service will be 1:00pm Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Grey Street United Church, 651 Sandhurst Avenue and Grey Street, Winnipeg.

Edith Janet Davey
On Friday, February 6, 2009 Edith Janet Davey passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 82 years.
Edith was predeceased by her husband Robert in November of 2008.
In accordance with her wishes no formal services were held.
Thomas Brady Hinnegan
Thomas Brady Hinnegan passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital at 62 years.

Edward (Ted) Michael George
After a courageous battle with leukemia, our beloved brother and friend passed away peacefully on February 1, 2009 at the Health Sciences Centre with family at his side.
He was predeceased by his mother Doris Bachynsky (nee Gillespie) in 2005. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings Carol Lee (Jack), David (Monica), Susan (Larry), Linda O’Dell (Clint), Doug and step-father John Bachynsky. He will by sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, and their families. He will also be missed by many close friends who were like family to him.
Ted was born on December 19, 1957 and raised in Winnipeg, living most of his life in the Brooklands and Weston areas. He left the province for a few years in his teens to work in the mines in Ontario and BC with his brothers.
Ted was employed with Clark Transport for many years until his illness forced him to stop working.
He was an avid race car fan, especially following the career of #88. He loved deer hunting and finally “bagged the big one.” Ted enjoyed renovating his home in Chatfield and spending time with friends there. The last few years Ted enjoyed golfing with his friends and family.
The family wishes to thank the staff of GD6 at the Health Sciences Centre and Dr. David Szwajcer and staff of CancerCare for their excellent care and compassion during Ted’s illness.
A memorial service will be held 1:30pm Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg.
