Howard was born on May 6, 1919 in Amaranth, MB where he resided most of his life. He worked for Western Gypsum for several years before enlisting in the army and was sent overseas during World War II for a number of years. He worked in the mine, farmed for a few years and drove truck for Parson’s before starting his own trucking business with his sons. Howard also spent many years as a commercial fisherman on Lake Manitoba until the age of 75. It wasn’t just a job to him. He enjoyed nothing more than pulling in a net full of fish or reeling one in at the end of a rod. Howard also enjoyed hunting, trapping and puttering around in his garden. His green thumb produced many prize-winning gladiolas and an abundant crop of vegetables which he gladly shared with everyone. Howard’s happiest times where when his children and grandchildren were home for the holidays and other occasions throughout the year. He also got a kick out of sitting around the campfire with his grandkids as they roasted marshmallows and told stories. He loved touring the country with friends and family to check out wildlife and nature in general.
